Local cloning of two product states
Local quantum operations and classical communication (LOCC) put considerable
constraints on many quantum information processing tasks such as cloning and
discrimination. Surprisingly however, discrimination of any two pure states
survives such constraints in some sense. In this paper, we show that cloning is
not that lucky; namely, conclusive LOCC cloning of two product states is

CMB Anisotropies Reveal Quantized Gravity
A novel primordial spectrum with a dynamical scale of quantum gravity origin
is proposed to explain the sharp fall off of the angular power spectra at low
multipoles in the COBE and WMAP observations. The spectrum is derived from
quantum fluctuations of the scalar curvature in a renormalizable model of
induced gravity. This model describes the very early universe by the conformal
field fluctuating about an inflationary background with the expansion time

Period halving of Persistent Currents in Mesoscopic Mobius ladders
We investigate the period halving of persistent currents(PCs) of
non-interacting electrons in isolated mesoscopic M\"{o}bius ladders without
disorder, pierced by Aharonov-Bhom flux. The mechanisms of the period halving
effect depend on the parity of the number of electrons as well as on the
interchain hopping. Although the data of PCs in mesoscopic systems are
sample-specific, some simple rules are found in the canonical ensemble average,
such as all the odd harmonics of the PCs disappear, and the signals of even

Resource Abundance and Resource Dependence in China
This paper reconsiders the âcurse of resourcesâ hypothesis for the case of China, and distinguishes between resource abundance, resource rents, and resource dependence. Resource abundance and resource rents are shown to be approximately equivalent, and their association with resource dependence varies with institutional quality. Resource abundance/rents has a positive impact on economic growth, while resource dependence has a negative impact. The impact of the âWest China Development Driveâ policy, started in 2000, is substantial, and this is investigated through a comparative analysis based on cross-section samples, and through a panel-data timevarying coefficient approach for West and East provinces. Resource effects do change after the policy shock.

Instanton-inspired Model of QCD Phase Transition and Bubble Dynamics
We have reinvestigated the collision of gluonic bubbles in a SU(2) model of
QCD which was studied by Johnson, Choi and Kisslinger in the context of the
instanton-inspired model of QCD phase transition bubbles with plane wave
approximation. We discuss treacherous points of the instanton-inspired model
that cause the violation of causality due to the presence of imaginary gluon
fields. By constructing a new slightly modified Lorentzian model where we have
three independent real gluon fields, we reanalyzed the process of bubble
collisions. Our numerical results show some indication of forming a bubble wall

Local Duality Predictions for x ~ 1 Structure Functions
Recent data on the proton F_2 structure function in the resonance region
suggest that local quark-hadron duality works remarkably well for each of the
low-lying resonances, including the elastic, to rather low values of Q^2. We
derive model-independent relations between structure functions at x ~ 1 and
elastic electromagnetic form factors, and predict the x -> 1 behavior of
nucleon polarization asymmetries and the neutron to proton structure function

Exciton Valley Dynamics probed by Kerr Rotation in WSe2 Monolayers
We have experimentally studied the pump-probe Kerr rotation dynamics in
WSe monolayers. This yields a direct measurement of the exciton valley
depolarization time . At T=4K, we find ps, a fast
relaxation time resulting from the strong electron-hole Coulomb exchange
interaction in bright excitons. The exciton valley depolarization time
decreases significantly when the lattice temperature increases with
being as short as 1.5ps at 125K. The temperature dependence is well explained
by the developed theory taking into account the exchange interaction and a fast
exciton scattering time on short-range potentials.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure
