Diffusion on a heptagonal lattice
We study the diffusion phenomena on the negatively curved surface made up of
congruent heptagons. Unlike the usual two-dimensional plane, this structure
makes the boundary increase exponentially with the distance from the center,
and hence the displacement of a classical random walker increases linearly in
time. The diffusion of a quantum particle put on the heptagonal lattice is also
studied in the framework of the tight-binding model Hamiltonian, and we again
find the linear diffusion like the classical random walk. A comparison with

355, 532, and 1064 nm picosecond laser interaction with grass tissues
In this article, we investigate how 355, 532, and 1064 nm picosecond lasers interact with grass tissues. We have identified five interaction regimes, and based on this classification, interaction maps have been constructed from a systematic experiment. The optical properties of light absorbing grass constituents are studied theoretically in order to understand how and how much light is absorbed by grass tissues. Scanning electron microscopy and optical microscopy are employed for observing morphological and structural changes of grass tissues. To the best of the authors' knowledge, this is the first investigation into laser interaction with plant leaves and reveals some fundamental findings regarding how a laser interacts with grass tissues and how plant leaves can be processed using lasers.open1
Roots of the derivative of the Riemann zeta function and of characteristic polynomials
We investigate the horizontal distribution of zeros of the derivative of the
Riemann zeta function and compare this to the radial distribution of zeros of
the derivative of the characteristic polynomial of a random unitary matrix.
Both cases show a surprising bimodal distribution which has yet to be
explained. We show by example that the bimodality is a general phenomenon. For
the unitary matrix case we prove a conjecture of Mezzadri concerning the
leading order behavior, and we show that the same follows from the random
matrix conjectures for the zeros of the zeta function.Comment: 24 pages, 6 figure
Perspectives: Quantum Mechanics on Phase Space
The basic ideas in the theory of quantum mechanics on phase space are
illustrated through an introduction of generalities, which seem to underlie
most if not all such formulations and follow with examples taken primarily from
kinematical particle model descriptions exhibiting either Galileian or
Lorentzian symmetry. The structures of fundamental importance are the relevant
(Lie) groups of symmetries and their homogeneous (and associated) spaces that,
in the situations of interest, also possess Hamiltonian structures. Comments
are made on the relation between the theory outlined and a recent paper by

Effects in Chern-Simons with a Four-Fermi Interaction
We investigate the effects of the Chern-Simons coupling on the high energy
behavior in the -dimensional Chern-Simons QED with a four-Fermi
interaction. Using the expansion we discuss the Chern-Simons effects on
the critical four-Fermi coupling at and the function around
it. High-energy behavior of Green's functions is also discussed. By explicit
calculation, we find that the radiative correction to the Chern-Simons coupling
vanishes at in the broken phase of the dynamical parity symmetry. We
argue that no radiative corrections to the Chern-Simons term arise at higher

Discrete Symmetries in the Weyl Expansion for Quantum Billiards
We consider two and three-dimensional quantum billiards with discrete
symmetries. We derive the first terms of the Weyl expansion for the level
density projected onto the irreducible representations of the symmetry group.
As an illustration the method is applied to the icosahedral billiard. The paper

Frame-like Geometry of Double Field Theory
We relate two formulations of the recently constructed double field theory to
a frame-like geometrical formalism developed by Siegel. A self-contained
presentation of this formalism is given, including a discussion of the
constraints and its solutions, and of the resulting Riemann tensor, Ricci
tensor and curvature scalar. This curvature scalar can be used to define an
action, and it is shown that this action is equivalent to that of double field

Incidence and time course of everolimus-related adverse events in postmenopausal women with hormone receptor-positive advanced breast cancer: insights from BOLERO-2.
BackgroundIn the BOLERO-2 trial, everolimus (EVE), an inhibitor of mammalian target of rapamycin, demonstrated significant clinical benefit with an acceptable safety profile when administered with exemestane (EXE) in postmenopausal women with hormone receptor-positive (HR(+)) advanced breast cancer. We report on the incidence, time course, severity, and resolution of treatment-emergent adverse events (AEs) as well as incidence of dose modifications during the extended follow-up of this study.Patients and methodsPatients were randomized (2:1) to receive EVE 10 mg/day or placebo (PBO), with open-label EXE 25 mg/day (n = 724). The primary end point was progression-free survival. Secondary end points included overall survival, objective response rate, and safety. Safety evaluations included recording of AEs, laboratory values, dose interruptions/adjustments, and study drug discontinuations.ResultsThe safety population comprised 720 patients (EVE + EXE, 482; PBO + EXE, 238). The median follow-up was 18 months. Class-effect toxicities, including stomatitis, pneumonitis, and hyperglycemia, were generally of mild or moderate severity and occurred relatively early after treatment initiation (except pneumonitis); incidence tapered off thereafter. EVE dose reduction and interruption (360 and 705 events, respectively) required for AE management were independent of patient age. The median duration of dose interruption was 7 days. Discontinuation of both study drugs because of AEs was higher with EVE + EXE (9%) versus PBO + EXE (3%).ConclusionsMost EVE-associated AEs occur soon after initiation of therapy, are typically of mild or moderate severity, and are generally manageable with dose reduction and interruption. Discontinuation due to toxicity was uncommon. Understanding the time course of class-effect AEs will help inform preventive and monitoring strategies as well as patient education.Trial registration numberNCT00863655
