    Two qubits can be entangled in two distinct temperature regions

    We have found that for a wide range of two-qubit Hamiltonians the canonical-ensemble thermal state is entangled in two distinct temperature regions. In most cases the ground state is entangled; however we have also found an example where the ground state is separable and there are still two regions. This demonstrates that the qualitative behavior of entanglement with temperature can be much more complicated than might otherwise have been expected; it is not simply determined by the entanglement of the ground state, even for the simple case of two qubits. Furthermore, we prove a finite bound on the number of possible entangled regions for two qubits, thus showing that arbitrarily many transitions from entanglement to separability are not possible. We also provide an elementary proof that the spectrum of the thermal state at a lower temperature majorizes that at a higher temperature, for any Hamiltonian, and use this result to show that only one entangled region is possible for the special case of Hamiltonians without magnetic fields.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures, many new result

    Deleuze and Law: Forensic Futures explores the relation between law and life and the advent of a politics of 'life'. How have recent events focused social, political and cultural attention on the living body and its maintenance and management? The central concept, through which the embodiment of the subject will be examined will be that of 'bio-power'. Articulated by Michel Foucault, but brought to attention more recently in the work of Giorgio Agamben, this concept recognises that the relation between life and law is both historical and necessary: the law must operate on bodies but can only do so by establishing a border between the body of the polity, and the mere life excepted from political concern. The contemporary advent of bio-politics occurs when the polity increasingly and invasively operates on this 'mere' life, and the body or organism – rather than the self – becomes the object of political management. The manner in which the body becomes the focus of contemporary power has led legal theory to explore new questions of the threshold between life and death and has led social theory to question the new extensions of the law and the polity into embodied life. The contributors explore the forensic shift in contemporary social theory and cultural sensibility from a number of perspectives.     Cutting simulation with consideration of the material hardening in the Shear Zone of AISI1045

    By the use of high energy synchrotron X-ray diffraction it was possible to determine the stress state in the chip formation zone during orthogonal cutting of AISI1045. The analysis of the diffractograms showed a hardening of the material during the movement through the shear zone. For this reason nano indentation experiments on prepared chips have been carried out. With these experiments, the material hardening has been confirmed. The nano indentation experiments were reproduced by FEM simulations and it was possible to determine flow curves of the hardened material above the shear zone based on existing flow curves of AISI1045. Thus, cutting simulations have been carried out, which considered the material hardening in the shear zone. The simulation results were then compared with the results of the in-situ strain measurements

    Operational approach to the Uhlmann holonomy

    We suggest a physical interpretation of the Uhlmann amplitude of a density operator. Given this interpretation we propose an operational approach to obtain the Uhlmann condition for parallelity. This allows us to realize parallel transport along a sequence of density operators by an iterative preparation procedure. At the final step the resulting Uhlmann holonomy can be determined via interferometric measurements.Comment: Added material, references, and journal reference

    When discussing the black hole information problem the term ``information flow'' is frequently used in a rather loose fashion. In this article I attempt to make this notion more concrete. I consider a Hilbert space which is constructed as a tensor product of two subspaces (representing for example inside and outside the black hole). I discuss how the system has the capacity to contain information which is in NEITHER of the subspaces. I attempt to quantify the amount of information located in each of the two subspaces, and elsewhere, and analyze the extent to which unitary evolution can correspond to ``information flow''.
