    The globalization is breaking-down the idea of national state, which was the base for the development of economic theory which is dominant today. Global economic crisis puts emphasis on limited possibilities of national governments in solving economic problems and general problems of society. Does it also mean that globalization and global economic crisis points out the need to think about new economic theory and new understanding of economics? In this paper I will argue that globalization reveals the need to change dominant economic paradigm – from traditional economic theory (mainstream) with macroeconomic stability as the goal of economic policy, to the “quantum economics“, which is based on “economic quantum” and immanent to the increase of wealth (material and non-material) of every individual in society and promoting set of values immanent to the wealth increase as the goal of economic policy.     Performance modelling of the Cambridge Fast Ring protocol

    The Cambridge Fast Ring is high-speed slotted ring. The features that make it suitable for use at very large transmission rates are the synchronous transmission, the simplicity of the medium-access-control protocol, and the possibility of immediate retransmission of erroneous packets. A novel analytical model of the Cambridge Fast Ring with normal slots is presented. The model is shown to be accurate and usable over wide range of parameters. A performance analysis based on this model is presented

    On The Timescale Forcing in Astrobiology

    We investigate the effects of correlated global regulation mechanisms, especially Galactic gamma-ray bursts (GRBs), on the temporal distribution of hypothetical inhabited planets, using simple Monte Carlo numerical experiments. Starting with recently obtained models of planetary ages in the Galactic Habitable Zone (GHZ), we obtain that the times required for biological evolution on habitable planets of the Milky Way are highly correlated. These results run contrary to the famous anti-SETI anthropic argument of Carter, and give tentative support to the ongoing and future SETI observation projects.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures, preliminary report, published in Serbian Astronomical Journal, vol. 175, 45-5

    The interplay of the ATLAS persistent event data model and the ROOT based I/O backend was studied in order to improve the read performance and disk size of ATLAS data formats for simulation, reconstruction and data analysis. The enabling of several native ROOT features, such as basket ordering and the tree cache, has lead to significant improvements in dedicated test setups using local disks, file servers managed by dCache, DPM and xrootd. After implementation in the ATLAS Athena framework, tests in more realistic environments were done. The functionality of the improvements and results from the performance tests are reported

    Radio Planetary Nebulae in the Large Magellanic Cloud

    We present 21 new radio-continuum detections at catalogued planetary nebula (PN) positions in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) using all presently available data from the Australia Telescope Online Archive at 3, 6, 13 and 20 cm. Additionally, 11 previously detected LMC radio PNe are re-examined with 7 7 detections confirmed and reported here. An additional three PNe from our previous surveys are also studied. The last of the 11 previous detections is now classified as a compact \HII\ region which makes for a total sample of 31 radio PNe in the LMC. The radio-surface brightness to diameter (Σ\Sigma-D) relation is parametrised as ΣDβ\Sigma \propto {D^{ - \beta }}. With the available 6~cm Σ\Sigma-DD data we construct Σ\Sigma-DD samples from 28 LMC PNe and 9 Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) radio detected PNe. The results of our sampled PNe in the Magellanic Clouds (MCs) are comparable to previous measurements of the Galactic PNe. We obtain β=2.9±0.4\beta=2.9\pm0.4 for the MC PNe compared to β=3.1±0.4\beta = 3.1\pm0.4 for the Galaxy. For a better insight into sample completeness and evolutionary features we reconstruct the Σ\Sigma-DD data probability density function (PDF). The PDF analysis implies that PNe are not likely to follow linear evolutionary paths. To estimate the significance of sensitivity selection effects we perform a Monte Carlo sensitivity simulation on the Σ\Sigma-DD data. The results suggest that selection effects are significant for values larger than β2.6\beta \sim 2.6 and that a measured slope of β=2.9\beta=2.9 should correspond to a sensitivity-free value of 3.4\sim 3.4.Comment: 19 pages, 9 figures, 6 table
