Epstein-Barr Virus–induced Molecule 1 Ligand Chemokine Is Expressed by Dendritic Cells in Lymphoid Tissues and Strongly Attracts Naive T Cells and Activated B Cells
Movement of T and B lymphocytes through secondary lymphoid tissues is likely to involve
multiple cues that help the cells navigate to appropriate compartments. Epstein-Barr virus–
induced molecule 1 (EBI-1) ligand chemokine (ELC/MIP3β) is expressed constitutively
within lymphoid tissues and may act as such a guidance cue. Here, we have isolated mouse
ELC and characterized its expression pattern and chemotactic properties. ELC is expressed
constitutively in dendritic cells within the T cell zone of secondary lymphoid tissues. Recombinant ELC was strongly chemotactic for naive (L-selectinhi) CD4 T cells and for CD8 T cells
and weakly attractive for resting B cells and memory (L-selectinlo) CD4 T cells. After activation
through the B cell receptor, the chemotactic response of B cells was enhanced. Like its human
counterpart, murine ELC stimulated cells transfected with EBI-1/CC chemokine receptor 7
(CCR7). Our findings suggest a central role for ELC in promoting encounters between recirculating T cells and dendritic cells and in the migration of activated B cells into the T zone of
secondary lymphoid tissues
User Selection Approaches to Mitigate the Straggler Effect for Federated Learning on Cell-Free Massive MIMO Networks
This work proposes UE selection approaches to mitigate the straggler effect
for federated learning (FL) on cell-free massive multiple-input multiple-output
networks. To show how these approaches work, we consider a general FL framework
with UE sampling, and aim to minimize the FL training time in this framework.
Here, training updates are (S1) broadcast to all the selected UEs from a
central server, (S2) computed at the UEs sampled from the selected UE set, and
(S3) sent back to the central server. The first approach mitigates the
straggler effect in both Steps (S1) and (S3), while the second approach only
Step (S3). Two optimization problems are then formulated to jointly optimize UE
selection, transmit power and data rate. These mixed-integer mixed-timescale
stochastic nonconvex problems capture the complex interactions among the
training time, the straggler effect, and UE selection. By employing the online
successive convex approximation approach, we develop a novel algorithm to solve
the formulated problems with proven convergence to the neighbourhood of their
stationary points. Numerical results confirm that our UE selection designs
significantly reduce the training time over baseline approaches, especially in
the networks that experience serious straggler effects due to the moderately
low density of access points.Comment: submitted for peer review
Spectral and Energy Efficiency Maximization for Content-Centric C-RANs with Edge Caching
This paper aims to maximize the spectral and energy efficiencies of a content-centric cloud radio access network (C-RAN), where users requesting the same contents are grouped together. Data are transferred from a central baseband unit to multiple remote radio heads (RRHs) equipped with local caches. The RRHs then send the received data to each group's user. Both multicast and unicast schemes are considered for data transmission. We formulate mixed-integer nonlinear problems in which user association, RRH activation, data rate allocation, and signal precoding are jointly designed. These challenging problems are subject to minimum data rate requirements, limited fronthaul capacity, and maximum RRH transmit power. Employing successive convex quadratic programming, we propose iterative algorithms with guaranteed convergence to Fritz John solutions. Numerical results confirm that the proposed joint designs markedly improve the spectral and energy efficiencies of the considered content-centric C-RAN compared to benchmark schemes. Importantly, they show that unicasting outperforms multicasting in terms of spectral efficiency in both cache and cache-less scenarios. In terms of energy efficiency, multicasting is the best choice for the system without cache whereas unicasting is best for the system with cache. Finally, edge caching is shown to improve both spectral and energy efficiencies. This work is supported in part by an ECRHDR scholarship from The University of Newcastle, in part by the Australian Research Council Discovery Project grants DP170100939 and DP160101537
The software for oceanographic data management: VODC for PC 2.0
To manage and process a large amount of oceanographic data, users must have powerful tools that simplify these tasks. The VODC for PC is software designed to assist in managing oceanographic data. It based on 32 bits Windows operation system and used Microsoft Access database management system. With VODC for PC users can update data simply, convert to some international data formats, combine some VODC databases to one, calculate average, min, max fields for some types of data, check for valid data
Energy-Efficient Design for Downlink Cloud Radio Access Networks
This work aims to maximize the energy efficiency of a downlink cloud radio access network (C-RAN), where data is transferred from a baseband unit in the core network to several remote radio heads via a set of edge routers over capacity-limited fronthaul links. The remote radio heads then send the received signals to their users via radio access links. We formulate a new mixed-integer nonlinear problem in which the ratio of network throughput and total power consumption is maximized. This challenging problem formulation includes practical constraints on routing, predefined minimum data rates, fronthaul capacity and maximum RRH transmit power. By employing the successive convex quadratic programming framework, an iterative algorithm is proposed with guaranteed convergence to a Fritz John solution of the formulated problem. Significantly, each iteration of the proposed algorithm solves only one simple convex program. Numerical examples with practical parameters confirm that the proposed joint optimization design markedly improves the C-RAN's energy efficiency compared to benchmark schemes. This work is supported in part by an ECR-HDR scholarship

Chemokine Requirements for B Cell Entry to Lymph Nodes and Peyer's Patches
B cell entry to lymph nodes and Peyer's patches depends on chemokine receptor signaling, but the principal chemokine involved has not been defined. Here we show that the homing of CXCR4−/− B cells is suppressed in CCL19 (ELC)- and CCL21 (SLC)-deficient paucity of lymph node T cells mice, but not in wild-type mice. We also find that CXCR4 can contribute to T cell homing. Using intravital microscopy, we find that B cell adhesion to high endothelial venules (HEVs) is disrupted when CCR7 and CXCR4 are predesensitized. In Peyer's patches, B cell entry is dependent on CXCR5 in addition to CCR7/CXCR4. CXCL12 (SDF1) is displayed broadly on HEVs, whereas CXCL13 (BLC) is found selectively on Peyer's patch follicular HEVs. These findings establish the principal chemokine and chemokine receptor requirements for B cell entry to lymph nodes and Peyer's patches
Redescription of three caligid species of the genus Caligus Müller, 1785 (Copepoda: Caligidae), parasites of marine fish Decapterus sp. (Perciformes: Carangidae) from Tonkin gulf, Vietnam
So far, parasitic copepods belonging to the family Caligidae on marine fishes in Vietnam have been poorly studied. At present, 250 copepods species belong to the genus Caligus have been registrated in the world, including 54 species recognized in waters of the South East Asia region and 11 species recorded from Vietnam. Based on the specimens of parasite copepods found on the marine fish Decapterus sp. which were collected by scientific researchers of TINRO, Vladivostok Russia from Tonkin gulf, Vietnam in 1960-1961, a re-description of three species of the genus Caligus, viz. Caligus confusus Pillai, 1961, C. constrictus Heller, 1865 and C. robustus Bassett-Smith, 1898 is given. The hosts, distribution and key to the eleven Caligus species for Vietnamese fauna are also provided herein
Regulation of SOX11 expression through CCND1 and STAT3 in mantle cell lymphoma
The neural transcription factor SOX11 is usually highly expressed in typical mantle cell lymphoma (MCL), but it is absent in the more indolent form of MCL. Despite being an important diagnostic marker for this hard-to-treat malignancy, the mechanisms of aberrant SOX11 expression are largely unknown. Herein, we describe 2 modes of SOX11 regulation by the cell-cycle regulator cyclin D1 (CCND1) and the signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3). We found that ectopic expression of CCND1 in multiple human MCL cell lines resulted in increased SOX11 transcription, which correlated with increased acetylated histones H3K9 and H3K14 (H3K9/14Ac). Increased H3K9/14Ac and SOX11 expression was also observed after histone deacetylase 1 (HDAC1) or HDAC2 was depleted by RNA interference or inhibited by the HDAC inhibitor vorinostat. Mechanistically, we showed that CCND1 interacted with and sequestered HDAC1 and HDAC2 from the SOX11 locus, leading to SOX11 upregulation. Interestingly, our data revealed a potential inverse relationship between phosphorylated Y705 STAT3 and SOX11 expression in MCL cell lines, primary tumors, and patient-derived xenografts. Functionally, inactivation of STAT3 by inhibiting the upstream Janus kinase (JAK) 1 or JAK2 or by STAT3 knockdown was found to increase SOX11 expression, whereas interleukin-21 (IL-21)–induced STAT3 activation or overexpression of the constitutively active form of STAT3 decreased SOX11 expression. In addition, targeting SOX11 directly by RNA interference or indirectly by IL-21 treatment induced toxicity in SOX11^+ MCL cells. Collectively, we demonstrate the involvement of CCND1 and STAT3 in the regulation of SOX11 expression, providing new insights and therapeutic implications in MCL
