Teaching Optics: Light Sources and Shadows

The study of students representations of physics concepts and phenomena constitutes a central part of Physics Education research, as they play a critical role in teaching. In the study presented here, we investigate 120 ninth grade students mental representations of the formation of shadows. The empirical data was gathered through an interview using four tasks which involved the evaluation of hypothetical situations. APPRENTISSAGE ET ENSEIGNEMENT EN SCIENCES PHYSIQUES / LEARNING AND TEACHING IN PHYSICAL SCIENCES

Dans cet article, nous tentons de soulever les questions caractéristiques générales de l'apprentissage et de l'enseignement des sciences physiques. L'accent est mis, d'une part, sur le caractère de l'apprentissage qui doit avoir des caractéristiques généralisables, une perspective de développement et une certaine indépendance par rapport aux connaissances scolaires institutionnelles et, d'autre part, sur l'enseignement qui doit suivre de manière créative les engagements des programmes et la compréhension des concepts et phénomènes connexes. Dans un tel contexte général, les problèmes ouverts sont discutés par les deux parties, mettant en évidence les convergences et les différences.In this article an attempt is made to raise the general characteristic questions of learning and teaching in Physical Sciences. The emphasis is on the one hand on the character of learning which must have generalisable features, a developmental perspective, and a certain independence from institutional school knowledge, and on the other hand on teaching which must creatively follow the commitments of programs and the understanding of related concepts and phenomena. Dans cet article est présenté un spectre des remarques synthétiques par rapport au rôle des variables dans l’enseignement expérimental en sciences. Au début, nous discutons des aspects importants et pertinents de la gestion des variables dans les expériences comme le changement d’une seule variable et la construction des tableaux. En plus nous nous référons aux situations expérimentales complexes, aux erreurs, aux attitudes et à la séparation des variables. In this article is presented a spectrum of the synthetic comments related to the role of the variables in the teaching science experiments. At the beginning we discuss important and critical aspects of manipulating variables in experiments as the change in one variable and the construction of the tables. La séparation des variables dans les activités scientifiques à la vie quotidienne et à l’école est une procédure qui nécessite toujours une approche didactique spécifique. Dans cet article on présente un spectre des questions, des difficultés et des solutions orientées vers l’identification et la gestion didactique du problème de la séparation des variables à l’approche du monde physique pour les enfants de l’école maternelle et de l’école primaire.   The separation of variables in daily life and in scientific activities at school is a procedure that still requires a special didactic approach.
