In order to determine the reproduction period, the peak time of spawning, length of maturity and mesh standard size for False Trevally (Lactarius lactarius), we conducted a study from November 2007 to October 2008 in coastal waters of the Oman Sea. A total of 702 False Trevally specimens were collected randomly from the catch composition of gillnets and Ferdows-3 stem trawler. Mean total length and total weight were estimated at 22.7 plus or minus 2.13cm and 142.2 plus or minus 41.64g for females and 20.4c 1.89cm and 103.14c 29.07g for males respectively. Male to female sex ratio was 0.37:1 and females were more abundant than males in all months except June and August. Males had smaller sizes than females and the females outnumbered the mails up to the total length 25.5cm. The maximum of GS delta was estimated at 3.69 for females in June and 0.89 for males in July. The trend of GS delta and the frequency of maturity stages showed that reproduction period was from February to September with a spawning peak in August. Absolute fecundity was calculated at 102032 ova and relative fecundity was estimated at 4491.9 ova and 780.7 ova to total length and total weight respectively. Lm sub(50%) (length of maturity) and standard mesh size was calculated at 24.4cm and 3.9cm, respectively

Ecophysiological indicators of stress in female Persian sturgeon, Acipenser persicus

The study on the ecophysiological impacts of stress in female Persian sturgeon broodfishes revealed that the average cortisol level varried in all broodfish caught at the Sefidrud River (163.38±21.2ng mL-1), Sefidrud River estuary (260.27±19.7ng mL-1) and Gorganrud River estuary (179.38±20.8ng mL-1). The variations in serum glucose levels were 140.65±12.05mg dL-1, 144.44±5.9mg dL-1 and 126.24±11mg dL-1, respectively. The maximum level of cortisol (781 ng mL-1) and serum glucose (281 mg dL-1) were observed during the transport of broodfish from the capture stations to the hatcheries and the minimum level of cortisol (25.2 ng mL-1) and serum glucose (33 mg dL-1) were observed during the confinement of broodfishes in the breeding ponds. The rhythmic and significant variations of cortisol level during capture, handling, transport and confinement of female Persian sturgeon broodfish in all three regions can be regarded as a valuable indicator of stres

Comparative effects of pure spirulina powder and other diets on larval growth and survival of green tiger shrimp, Peneaus semisulcatus

This experiment was carried out in Bandargah Station in Bushehr province. Peneaus semisulcatus larvae were fed on Spirulina platensis as supplementation microalgae. In order to use Spirulina platensis in this study, we have to produce biomass and dry production of this microalga. Determination of length and survival rate of Peneaus semisulcatus larvae was carried out as the objective of the study. Treatments including Z plus (as a supplementation without spirulina), M.C.F (as an imported enriched spirulina), the powder combination of Spirulina platensis with Z plus and Spirulina platensis as live food were compared to Cheatocerus microalgae as a control. The experiment was carried out from nauplii stage to early post larvae. The results of the experiment indicated that the powder combination of Spirulina platensis with Z plus treatment has the most survival rate (76.5%). The maximum of length (4.3mm) observed in control (Cheatocerus spp.). The maximum mortality was observed in zoa stage in spirulina microalgae treatment, because the spiral filamentous of Spirulina sp. was large

A novel, eco-friendly and green synthesis of PPAC-ZnO and PPAC-nZVI nanocomposite using pomegranate peel: Cephalexin adsorption experiments, mechanisms, isotherms and kinetics

In the present work, powdered activated carbon coated by nanoparticles ZnO and nZVI was derived from pomegranate peel extracts and finally applied for removal of cephalexin (CEX (from aqueous solutions. This experimental research was conducted discontinuously. The effects of pH of solution, reaction time, PPAC-nZVI and PPAC-ZnO composites dose, and initial concentration of cephalexin and composite recovery on process efficiency were investigated. The removal efficiency in optimal conditions for cephalexin with PPAC-nZVI and PPAC-ZnO (CEX = 50 mg L1, composite dose = 1.25 g L1, reaction time = 45 min and pH = 5) was obtained 96.06 and 94.17, respectively. The results of the study of isotherm and absorption kinetics for both composites showed that the absorption process follows Langmuir isotherm and pseudo second-order kinetics. The present study showed that the composites could be used as an effective and bio-friendly absorbent to remove cephalexin from aqueous solutions. © 2020 The Society of Powder Technology Japa

Fact-Check spreading behavior in twitter: A qualitative profile for false-claim news

    Get PDF
Fact-check spread is usually performed by a plain tweet with just the link. Since it is not proper human behavior, it may cause uncanny, hinder the reader’s attention and harm the counter-propaganda influence. This paper presents a profile of fact-check link spread in Twitter (suiting for TRL-1) and, as an additional outcome, proposes a preliminary behavior design based on it (suiting for TRL-2). The underlying hypothesis is by simulating human-like behavior, a bot gets more attention and exerts more influence on its followers. This work has been supported by national funds through FCT Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia within the Project Scope: UID/CEC/00319/2019

Comparing road safety conditions in Iran with ten Southeast Asian countries using road safety index

    Get PDF
Background and aims: Crashes and the related human and financial losses have been turned to be one of the challenges of human societies in a way that road death statistics shows a high number of 219172 in Iran from 2005 to 2014. Methods: In this research, using global and valid Road Safety Development Index (RSDI) that illustrates general roads safety condition and consists of nine effective parameters, roads safety in Iran and 10 countries of southeast of Asia was analyzed from March 2010 to March 2011. Considering the charechtristics of the parameters, two scaling methods entitle "Simple Average Weighting" and "Subjective Weighting" were used. Results: Iran's scores were 48.35 and 45.29 for Simple Average Weighting and Subjective Weighting respectively and was in middle level of safety also it ranked as the fourth country among 11 studied ones in 2011. Although some parameters got better, comparing three last years, in many of them especially number of death, crashes and drivers' behavior conditions were unacceptable. The important point is that Subjective Weighting method acts more accurate than Simple Average method, respects to considering change of weights according to importance and their role comparing. Conclusion: The research findings illustrated that Iran has moved toward middle level of road safety from lower levels in last years. However, regards to ranking and scores resulted from indexes it is not in desirable conditions. © 2018 Tehran University of Medical Sciences and Health Services. All rights reserved
