Purulent complications of chickenpox in children
In 1979-1990 213 children with local (n = 155) and generalized (n = 58) purulent complications of chickenpox, developing on days 2-6 after the eruptions, underwent treatment. They occurred mostly in children aged from 12 months to 3 years. Treatment of local forms caused no difficulties and was successful in all cases. A very severe course was encountered in 25 children with the development of ligneous phlegmon and toxicoinfectious shock; 6 of them died. The extent of the lesion in these cases included more than 10% of the skin surface. The treatment consisted in multiple incisions, the prescription of antibiotics in maximal doses, and immunostimulating and infusion therapy

ACUTE EPIGLOTTITIS IN CHILDREN (ETIOPATHOGENESIS, DIAGNOSIS, TREATMENT)
Acute epiglottitis (AE) must be considered as not a separate entdisease but as compound pathology with wide polymorphism, which can often need an intervention of different medical specialists: experts in resuscitation, infectiologists, immunologists, pulmonologists, and cardiologists. The increase of rate of AE and its septic complications and severe outcomes in last years forced us to consider this problem in detail on the basis of longstanding experience of Morozov children's city clinical hospital.Key words: children, acute epiglottitis, etiology, diagnosis, treatment
Comparative results of surgical, combined and comprehensive treatment of newly onset medulloblastoma in children
The authors present the outcomes of treatment of 107 patients with histologically verified diagnosis of medulloblastoma. Of these, 22 children were subjected only to surgical treatment, 25 β operative and radiotherapy, and 60 β polychemotherapy as a stage of a comprehensive or combined treatment. It was determined that survival of children with medulloblastoma was influenced by such factors as the presence of polychemotherapy and radiotherapy, a residual tumour following nonradical removal thereof, involvement of the brain stem into the tumour process, as well as tumour cells in the lumbal liquor. Carrying out ventriculoperitoneal by-pass decreases survival of patients with medulloblastoma. Β© 2002, Fund - Doctors, Innovations,Science for Children. All rights reserved
