Frequencies [Hz] : Audio-visual Spaces = Frequenzen [Hz] : Audiovisuelle Räume

Jørgensen argues that the artists in this exhibition use sound as a material to investigate notions of space and their physical, psychological, and social complements. Texts on the artists and their practices are followed by lengthier theoretical essays considering the interrelation between art, sound, space and society from a variety of angles, such as the historical, literary, musical, cultural, philosophical and political. D. Diederichsen describes the design of the exhibition as a meander that represents the problematics of sound addressed therein. Includes an audio CD with 13 tracks by 15 artists. List of works. The Next Documenta Should Be Curated by an Artist

Hardcover book compiling texts by 28 artists invited to respond to the statement "The next Documenta should be curated by an artist." In his introduction, editor Hoffmann recounts how the idea grew out of a discussion with artist Carsten Höller, and that the project provocatively explores artists' relations to the profession of curating, rather than critiquing previous Documenta exhibitions. The artists' writings are approached from a wide range of perspectives, from critical reflections to fantastical/radical ideas to elaborately conceived proposals. Also includes a selection of texts–including heated debates–contributed by e-mail during an Open Forum between July 2003 and February 2004. 3 bibl. re
