Automated Top View Registration of Broadcast Football Videos
In this paper, we propose a novel method to register football broadcast video
frames on the static top view model of the playing surface. The proposed method
is fully automatic in contrast to the current state of the art which requires
manual initialization of point correspondences between the image and the static
model. Automatic registration using existing approaches has been difficult due
to the lack of sufficient point correspondences. We investigate an alternate
approach exploiting the edge information from the line markings on the field.
We formulate the registration problem as a nearest neighbour search over a
synthetically generated dictionary of edge map and homography pairs. The
synthetic dictionary generation allows us to exhaustively cover a wide variety
of camera angles and positions and reduce this problem to a minimal per-frame
edge map matching procedure. We show that the per-frame results can be improved
in videos using an optimization framework for temporal camera stabilization. We
demonstrate the efficacy of our approach by presenting extensive results on a
dataset collected from matches of football World Cup 2014
Study of clinical profile of patients of bipolar mood disorder with and without substance abuse and clinical course variables in the substance abusing bipolar group in one of the tertiary care centre of North India
Background: Bipolar disorder is the sixth leading cause of disability worldwide and has a lifetime prevalence of about 3% in general population. In patients with bipolar disorder there was 58 % lifetime prevalence of co-occurring alcohol abuse and a 38 % lifetime prevalence of co-occurring other substance abuse. Substance abuse interferes with treatment and management approaches of the bipolar disorder. Methods: A cross sectional observational study of 120 male patients divided in substance abusing (60) and non-substance abusing groups (60) with bipolar disorder according to DSM-V, who met the Inclusion criteria . A written informed consent was obtained from the patients and/ or their family members. Patient’s information was recorded on the socio-demographic and clinical profile sheet .Thereafter, YMRS or HAM-D scales were applied as per the phase of the illness. Results: Most of the patients were between 15-25 years in SAB group and 35-50 years in NSAB group, educated, semiskilled and married. Tobacco abuse was the commonest followed by cannabis and alcohol abuse. The mean duration of hospital stay in SAB group was 41.40 days and in NSAB group was 43.20 days. Dysphoric mania, aggressive behavior and suicidal attempts were more in SAB group. Mean total YMRS score of SAB group was greater than NSAB group. Conclusions: Maximum patients had onset of substance abuse before the onset of affective symptoms. Manic symptomatology was more severe in substance abusing group
ArrayD: A general purpose software for Microarray design
BACKGROUND: Microarray is a high-throughput technology to study expression of thousands of genes in parallel. A critical aspect of microarray production is the design aimed at space optimization while maximizing the number of gene probes and their replicates to be spotted. RESULTS: We have developed a software called 'ArrayD' that offers various alternative design solutions for an array given a set of user requirements. The user feeds the following inputs: type of source plates to be used, number of gene probes to be printed, number of replicates and number of pins to be used for printing. The solutions are stored in a text file. The choice of a design solution to be used will be governed by the spotting chemistry to be used and the accuracy of the robot. CONCLUSIONS: ArrayD is a software for standard cartesian robots. The software aids users in preparing a judicious and elegant design. ArrayD is universally applicable and is available at
Lung Disease Classification using Dense Alex Net Framework with Contrast Normalisation and Five-Fold Geometric Transformation
lung disease is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Most cases of lung diseases are found when the disease is in an advanced stage. Therefore, the development of systems and methods that begin to diagnose quickly and prematurely plays a vital role in today's world. Currently, in detecting differences in lung cancer, an accurate diagnosis of cancer types is needed. However, improving the accuracy and reducing training time of the diagnosis remains a challenge. In this study, we have developed an automated classification scheme for lung cancer presented in histopathological images using a dense Alex Net framework. The proposed methodology carries out several phases includes pre-processing, contrast normalization, data augmentation and classification. Initially, the pre-processing step is accompanied to diminish the noisy contents present in the image. Contrast normalization has been explored to maintain the same illumination factor among histopathological lung images next to pre-processing. Afterwards, data augmentation phase has been carried out to enhance the dataset further to avoid over-fitting problems. Finally, the Dense Alex Net is utilized for classification that comprises five convolutional layers, one multi-scale convolution layer, and three fully connected layers. In evaluation experiments, the proposed approach was trained using our original database to provide rich and meaningful features. The accuracy attained by the proposed methodology is93%, which is maximum compared with the existing algorithm
BIOLOGICAL ACTIVITIES OF NOVEL IN VITRO RAISED STEVIA PLANT
Objective: This communication explores a lead fraction from methanolic extract of novel Stevia species raised under in vitro conditions for its various biological activities. Methods: The dried Stevia leaves were crushed in methanol to get the polar extract. This methanol extract was tested for pancreatic lipase and alpha-amylase inhibitory activity using quantitative plate assays. Antibacterial property of the extract was also evaluated against Staphylococcus epidermidis, Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Further, the antioxidant potential was evaluated using 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl.Results: The methanolic extract inhibited pancreatic lipase with IC50 of 5.74 μg/ml in a similar manner to a well-known anti-obesity drug in the market orlistat. The methanolic extract also showed a better pancreatic α-amylase inhibitory activity (IC50=88 μg/ml) than acarbose. Further, the lead fraction exhibited 88.48% antioxidant activity. It also exhibited broad spectrum antimicrobial activity against the spectrum of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria tested under laboratory conditions with a minimal inhibitory concentration ranging from 1.95 to 31.25 μg/ml.Conclusion: Thus, this study signifies the vast potential of the lead fraction from a novel Stevia species for further development into a herbal formulation for prevention of various infectious and non-infectious diseases
Microstructural characterization and mechanical performance along the thickness of electron beam welded stabilized AISI 321 stainless steel
The Electron Beam welding (EBW) process was employed to fabricate 18 mm thick fully penetrated butt welds of AISI 321 stainless steel. Nail shaped weld wide at the top and narrow at the bottom was obtained. Characterization of the weld joint was carried out using optical microscopy, scan electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, microhardness, impact toughness test and tensile strength test. The microstructure of the weld metal was found to be free from defects like cracks porosity etc. The weld metal consisted of the primarily austenitic matrix with skeletal and vermicular morphology of δ-ferrite by the side of the grain boundaries. Carbides of Cr and Ti were found in the weld metal after the thermal aging treatment of 750°C for 24 hours as reveled by the XRD analysis. The tensile strength study revealed a maximum strength of 575 MPa at the root of the weld joint in the as-welded state. The maximum impact toughness of 129.3 J was obtained in the top section of the weld in the as-welded condition. The results in terms of structure-property correlaterelationship. This study recommends the effectiveness of EBW for joining 18 mm thick AISI 321
