Bitcoin & blockchain: ¿la criptomoneda y la tecnología que pueden transformar el mundo?

El desarrollo económico actual y nuestro conocimiento de los mercados financieros enfrentan nuevos desafíos que impulsan la aparición de iniciativas anteriormente inimaginables. Este es el caso de las criptomonedas, particularmente bitcoin, que surge como una propuesta de transformación a las formas de intercambio tradicionales, definidas por el sistema financiero actual que indudablemente deberá cambiar. El propósito de este trabajo es exponer cómo funcionan bitcoin y blockchain, mostrando el potencial que ambos conceptos tienen desde sus diferentes alcances (bitcoin como activo de inversión, y blockchain como tecnología aplicable en diferentes industrias); además, con el objetivo de entender dentro del contexto colombiano qué tan aceptada es bitcoin como medio de intercambio, se presentan los resultados de una encuesta realizada a diferentes empresas que consideran esta criptomoneda una opción válida de pago, identificando cuáles fueron sus motivadores.The current economic development and our knowledge of financial markets increasingly face new challenges that drive the emergence of previously unimaginable initiatives, such as cryptocurrencies, particularly bitcoin, which arises as a way of transformation of the traditional forms of exchange, defined by the current financial system that undoubtedly must change. The purpose of this paper is to show how bitcoin and blockchain works, showing the potential that both concepts have from their different scopes (bitcoin as an investment asset, and blockchain as technology applicable in different industries); also, with the aim of understanding within the Colombian context how accepted is bitcoin as an option of exchange, the results of a survey made to different companies that consider this cryptocurrency to be a valid payment option are presented, identifying which were their motivators
