On universality of the coupling of neutrinos to Z
We employ an effective Lagrangian approach and use LEP data to place severe
bounds on universality violations of the couplings of , , and
to the boson. Our results justify the assumption of universality
in these couplings that is usually made, as for example in the analysis of

Differential roles of p39Mos–Xp42Mpk1 cascade proteins on Raf1 phosphorylation and spindle morphogenesis in Xenopus oocytes
AbstractFully-grown G2-arrested Xenopus oocytes resume meiosis upon hormonal stimulation. Resumption of meiosis is characterized by germinal vesicle breakdown, chromosome condensation, and organization of a bipolar spindle. These cytological events are accompanied by activation of MPF and the p39Mos–MEK1–Xp42Mpk1–p90Rsk pathways. The latter cascade is activated upon p39Mos accumulation. Using U0126, a MEK1 inhibitor, and p39Mos antisense morpholino and phosphorothioate oligonucleotides, we have investigated the role of the members of the p39Mos–MEK1–Xp42Mpk1–p90Rsk in spindle morphogenesis. First, we have observed at a molecular level that prevention of p39Mos accumulation always led to MEK1 phosphorylation defects, even when meiosis was stimulated through the insulin Ras-dependent pathway. Moreover, we have observed that Raf1 phosphorylation that occurs during meiosis resumption was dependent upon the activity of MEK1 or Xp42Mpk1 but not p90Rsk. Second, inhibition of either p39Mos accumulation or MEK1 inhibition led to the formation of a cytoplasmic aster-like structure that was associated with condensed chromosomes. Spindle morphogenesis rescue experiments using constitutively active Rsk and purified murine Mos protein suggested that p39Mos or p90Rsk alone failed to promote meiotic spindle organization. Our results indicate that activation of the p39Mos–MEK1–Xp42Mpk1–p90Rsk pathway is required for bipolar organization of the meiotic spindle at the cortex
Eustachian tube lumen opening into an abnormally pneumatized sphenoid bone.
Morphological abnormalities of left temporal and sphenoid bone were discovered in a 17-year-old boy during a post-traumatic cranial CT scan examination. The patient had not suffered from audiological disorders previously. He did not complain of hearing loss, vertigo or autophony. Further clinical investigations were normal including micro-otoscopy and nasopharyngeal endoscopy. The Valsalva maneuver was correctly performed. Audiometry and tympanometry were without any particularity
Insulin-like growth factor 1 receptors in human breast tumour: localisation and quantification by histo-autoradiographic analysis.
To assess the precise role of IGF1 in benign and malignant breast diseases, we analysed the tissular localisation, characterised, and quantified specific insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF1) binding sites in these heterogenous tissues, using histo-autoradiographic analysis (HAA). The 125I-IGF1 binding was performed on frozen tissue sections and analysed using 3H Ultrofilm autoradiography coupled to computerised image analysis. Competitive binding experiments using unlabelled IGF1, IGF2 and insulin showed that the tissues exhibited typical type I IGF binding sites. This specificity was confirmed by the use of alpha IR-3 monoclonal antibody, as inhibitor of 125I-IGF1 binding. IGF1 binding sites were detected in 18 human primary breast cancers, 12 benign breast tumours and two normal breast tissues. Using HAA we found that the human breast carcinomas studied exhibit a specific and high binding capacity for 125I-IGF1 exclusively localised on the proliferative epithelial component. The 125I-IGF1 binding activity of benign breast tumours or normal breast tissue was significantly lower than in cancerous tissues. There was a significant correlation between IGF1-R concentrations detected with HAA and those detected with a classical biochemical method. Moreover, HAA could be useful in further detailing whether a tumour is IGF1-R positive or negative HAA appears to be a useful method for the detection of growth factor receptors, specially in small biopsy specimens
Invisible Z-Boson Decays at e+e- Colliders
The measurement of the invisible Z-boson decay width at e+e- colliders can be
done "indirectly", by subtracting the Z-boson visible partial widths from the
Z-boson total width, or "directly", from the process e+e- -> \gamma \nu
\bar{\nu}. Both procedures are sensitive to different types of new physics and
provide information about the couplings of the neutrinos to the Z-boson. At
present, measurements at LEP and CHARM II are capable of constraining the
left-handed Z\nu\nu-coupling, 0.45 <~ g_L <~ 0.5, while the right-handed one is
only mildly bounded, |g_R| <= 0.2. We show that measurements at a future e+e-
linear collider at different center-of-mass energies, \sqrt{s} = MZ and
\sqrt{s}s ~ 170 GeV, would translate into a markedly more precise measurement
of the Z\nu\nu-couplings. A statistically significant deviation from Standard
Model predictions will point toward different new physics mechanisms, depending
on whether the discrepancy appears in the direct or the indirect measurement of
the invisible Z-width. We discuss some scenarios which illustrate the ability
of different invisible Z-boson decay measurements to constrain new physics
beyond the Standard Model
Measurement of electron-neutrino electron elastic scattering
The cross section for the elastic scattering reaction nu_e+e- -> nu_e+e- was
measured by the Liquid Scintillator Neutrino Detector using a mu+ decay-at-rest
nu_e beam at the Los Alamos Neutron Science Center. The standard model of
electroweak physics predicts a large destructive interference between the
charge current and neutral current channels for this reaction. The measured
cross section, sigma_{nu_e e-}=[10.1 +- 1.1(stat.) +- 1.0(syst.)]x E_{nu_e}
(MeV) x 10^{-45} cm^2, agrees well with standard model expectations. The
measured value of the interference parameter, I=-1.01 +- 0.13(stat.) +-
0.12(syst.), is in good agreement with the standard model expectation of
I^{SM}=-1.09. Limits are placed on neutrino flavor-changing neutral currents.
An upper limit on the muon-neutrino magnetic moment of 6.8 x 10^{-10} mu_{Bohr}
is obtained using the nu_mu and \bar{nu}_mu fluxes from pi+ and mu+ decay.Comment: 22 pages, 11 figure
A LRRK2-Dependent EndophilinA Phosphoswitch Is Critical for Macroautophagy at Presynaptic Terminals.
Synapses are often far from the soma and independently cope with proteopathic stress induced by intense neuronal activity. However, how presynaptic compartments turn over proteins is poorly understood. We show that the synapse-enriched protein EndophilinA, thus far studied for its role in endocytosis, induces macroautophagy at presynaptic terminals. We find that EndophilinA executes this unexpected function at least partly independent of its role in synaptic vesicle endocytosis. EndophilinA-induced macroautophagy is activated when the kinase LRRK2 phosphorylates the EndophilinA-BAR domain and is blocked in animals where EndophilinA cannot be phosphorylated. EndophilinA-phosphorylation promotes the formation of highly curved membranes, and reconstitution experiments show these curved membranes serve as docking stations for autophagic factors, including Atg3. Functionally, deregulation of the EndophilinA phosphorylation state accelerates activity-induced neurodegeneration. Given that EndophilinA is connected to at least three Parkinson's disease genes (LRRK2, Parkin and Synaptojanin), dysfunction of EndophilinA-dependent synaptic macroautophagy may be common in this disorder
A Search for leptophilic Z_(l) boson at future linear colliders
We study the possible dynamics associated with leptonic charge in future
linear colliders. Leptophilic massive vector boson, Z_(l), have been
investigated through the process e^(+)e^(-) -> mu^(+)mu^(-). We have shown that
ILC and CLIC will give opportunity to observe Z_(l) with masses up to the
center of mass energy if the corresponding coupling constant g_(l) exceeds

The OPERA experiment Target Tracker
The main task of the Target Tracker detector of the long baseline neutrino
oscillation OPERA experiment is to locate in which of the target elementary
constituents, the lead/emulsion bricks, the neutrino interactions have occurred
and also to give calorimetric information about each event. The technology used
consists in walls of two planes of plastic scintillator strips, one per
transverse direction. Wavelength shifting fibres collect the light signal
emitted by the scintillator strips and guide it to both ends where it is read
by multi-anode photomultiplier tubes. All the elements used in the construction

Search for the Lepton Number Violating Process nu_mu-bar e^- -> mu^- nu_e-bar
The NuTeV experiment at Fermilab has used a sign-selected neutrino beam to
perform a search for the lepton number violating process nu_mu-bar e^- -> mu^-
nu_e-bar, and to measure the cross-section of the Standard Model inverse muon
decay process nu_mu e^- -> mu^- nu_e. NuTeV measures the inverse muon decay
asymptotic cross-section sigma/E to be 13.8 +/- 1.2 +/- 1.4 x 10^-42 cm^2/GeV.
The experiment also observes no evidence for lepton number violation and places
one of the most restrictive limits on the LNV/IMD cross-section ratio at < 1.7%
at 90% C.L. for V-A couplings and < 0.6% for scalar couplings.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, 2 tables. Submitted to Physics Review Letter
