On Gravity localization under Lorentz Violation in warped scenario
Recently Rizzo studied the Lorentz Invariance Violation (LIV) in a brane
scenario with one extra dimension where he found a non-zero mass for the
four-dimensional graviton. This leads to the conclusion that five-dimensional
models with LIV are not phenomenologically viable. In this work we re-examine
the issue of Lorentz Invariance Violation in the context of higher dimensional
theories. We show that a six-dimensional geometry describing a string-like
defect with a bulk-dependent cosmological constant can yield a massless 4D
graviton, if we allow the cosmological constant variation along the bulk, and
thus can provides a phenomenologically viable solution for the gauge hierarchy
problem.Comment: 13 pages, 2 figures. To appear in Physics Letters
Learning Deep Features for Robotic Inference from Physical Interactions
In order to effectively handle multiple tasks that are not pre-defined, a robotic agent needs to automatically map its high-dimensional sensory inputs into useful features. As a solution, feature learning has empirically shown substantial improvements in obtaining representations that are generalizable to different tasks, compared to feature engineering approaches, but it requires a large amount of data and computational capacity. These challenges are specifically relevant in robotics due to the low signal-to-noise ratios inherent to robotic data, and to the cost typically associated with collecting this type of input. In this paper, we propose a deep probabilistic method based on Convolutional Variational Auto-Encoders (CVAEs) to learn visual features suitable for interaction and recognition tasks. We run our experiments on a self-supervised robotic sensorimotor dataset. Our data was acquired with the iCub humanoid and is based on a standard object collection, thus being readily extensible. We evaluated the learned features in terms of usability for 1) object recognition, 2) capturing the statistics of the effects, and 3) planning. In addition, where applicable, we compared the performance of the proposed architecture with other state-ofthe-art models. These experiments demonstrate that our model is capable of capturing the functional statistics of action and perception (i.e. images) which performs better than existing baselines, without requiring millions of samples or any handengineered features
Tumores abdominais raros com crescimento intracardíaco. A propósito de dois casos operados com sucesso
Abdominal tumors that can grow through vascular lumen and spread to the right heart are rare. Although these tumors have different histologic aspects, they may cause similar abdominal and cardiac symptoms and are a serious risk factor for pulmonary embolism and sudden death when they reach the right atrium and tricuspid valve. The best treatment is radical surgical resection of the entire tumor using cardiopulmonary bypass with or without deep hypothermia and total circulatory arrest. We report the cases of two patients, the first with leiomyosarcoma of the inferior vena cava and the other with intravenous leiomyomatosis of the uterus that showed intravascular growth up to right atrium and ventricle, who underwent successful radical resection in a one-stage procedure with the use of cardiopulmonary bypass. We discuss the clinical and histologic aspects and imaging diagnosis and review the literature.
Rotavirus Genotypes Circulating in Brazil Before and After the National Rotavirus Vaccine Program: A Review.
We describe the rotavirus genotypes before and after rotavirus vaccine introduction in Brazil. 86 studies reported 6,884 (15.2%) rotavirus-episodes among 45,305 children. Rotavirus caused 22.4% and 11.6% of cases before and after vaccine introduction. G1P[8] and G9P[8], and G2P[4] and heterotypic-strains were most common before and after vaccine introduction. The vaccines may have selected heterotypic strains in this highly-vaccinated population
