Mapeando o conhecimento em sistemas de classificaçao de bibliotecas

This study explores, in 3 steps, how the 3 main library classification systems, the Library of Congress Classification, the Dewey Decimal Classification, and the Universal Decimal Classification, cover human knowledge. First, we mapped the knowledge covered by the 3 systems. We used the �10 Pillars of Knowledge: Map of Human Knowledge�, which comprises 10 pillars, as an evaluative model. We mapped all the subject-based classes and subclasses that are part of the first 2 levels of the 3 hierarchical structures. Then, we zoomed into each of the 10 pillars and analyzed how the three systems cover the 10 knowledge domains. Finally, we focused on the 3 library systems. Based on the way each one of them covers the 10 knowledge domains, it is evident that they failed to adequately and systematically present contemporary human knowledge. They are unsystematic and biased, and, at the top 2 levels of the hierarchical structures, they are incomplete.Este trabalho explora, em três passos, como os três principais sistemas de classificação de bibliotecas, LCC, CDD e CDU, cobrem o conhecimento humano. Primeiro, mapeamos o conhecimento coberto pelos três sistemas. Foram usados os �10 Pilares do Conhecimento: Mapa do Conhecimento Humano� (10 Pillars of Knowledge: Map of Human Knowledge) como um modelo de avaliação. Foram mapeadas todas as classes de assunto que são parte dos dois primeiros níveis das três estruturas hierárquicas. Depois, focamos cada um dos dez pilares e analisamos como os três sistemas cobrem os dez domínios do conhecimento. Finalmente, focamos nos três sistemas de bibliotecas. Baseado na maneira como cada um deles cobre os dez domínios do conhecimento, é evidente que os três apresentaram falhas ao apresentar o conhecimento humano contemporâneo de maneira adequada e sistemática. Eles são assistemáticos e tendenciosos e, nos dois níveis superiores das estruturas hierárquicas, são incompletos

Caderno de esboço digital: estudo semiótico do processo criativo estético de informaçao imagética

The study of semiotics is necessary for understanding and extracting information contained in images which is increasingly present in our day to day. To do so, and based on the semiotic foundations and methodologies of library for treatment and information retrieval, studied the creative and aesthetic process of image, analyzing its inclusion on the World Wide Web, through the establishment of the digital´s notebook of artist. Object of this research. The results revealed the occurrence of informational gains and losses arising from the change of language of the notebook of artist - from analog to digital - the conclusion is the importance of information professionals in effecting this change intersemiotic with the use of programs for image processing.O estudo da semiótica faz-se necessário para o entendimento e a extração de informações contidas em imagens as quais se encontram cada vez mais presente em nosso dia-a-dia. Para tanto, e com base nos fundamentos semióticos e nas metodologias da Biblioteconomia para o tratamento e a recuperação da informação, estudou-se o processo criativo-estético de imagens, analisando-se sua inserção na World Wide Web, através da criação do caderno de artista digital, objeto dessa pesquisa. Os resultados revelaram a ocorrência de perdas e ganhos informacionais decorrentes da mudança de linguagem do Caderno de Artista � do analógico para o digital � o que permite concluir pela importância do profissional da informação na efetivação dessa mudança intersemiótica com uso de programas de tratamento de imagem
