Indian subcontinent is highly vulnerable to major natural disasters such as earthquakes, cyclones, floods, droughts, landslides and bushfires. Tsunami, which is a recent addition to this list, had occurred in the early morning of 26th December 2004, after a massive earthquake of 9.2 magnitude on the Richter scale in Andaman & Nicobar islands, resulting in the submergence of large area of farmland, and subsequent drying up of water bodies. It caused moisture stress for the standing crops, livestock and fisheries and affected the livelihood of the people to a large extent. In this context, the present study has been carried out to make the socio-economic impact assessment of livelihood security in agriculture, animal husbandry and aquaculture on the tsunami-hit lands of Andaman. Data have been collected from 150 sample respondents and the survey has been conducted for two periods, pre-tsunami and post-tsunami. The results have indicated that tsunami has ravaged the households, standing crops, farm inputs such as seed, feed and implements, livestock and poultry population, their sheds, fish ponds, etc., thereby affecting the basic livelihood security of the people in Andaman. The rehabilitation measures taken by the government and NGOs have improved their livelihoods by reviving agriculture considerably in the subsequent years and by creating employment opportunities in various farm and non-farm activities. The paper has suggested creating profitable livelihood security to vulnerable sections of the society in the existing socio-economic penury with holistic intervention of the community, government and NGOs.Agricultural and Food Policy,

Increasing Efficiency of Recommendation System using Big Data Analysis

    Get PDF
In the present Digital Space a lot of Internet users try to come up with solutions to a particular problem by suggesting solutions that are pre-existing on the Internet. This brings down the originality of posts and we are able to overcome this problem by applying prediction models on data sets. It is important for a user to come up with original ideas to gain up votes which in turn represent the quality of a post. Due to the huge influx of data at every moment, the need for big data analytics becomes essential and hence the use of an open source framework like Hadoop is imperative so as to increase effectiveness of recommender system built on these prediction models

A Prospective, randomized study comparing Ultrasound Guided Transversus Abdominis Plane Block and Ultrasound guided Ilioinguinal, Iliohypogastric Nerve Blocks in patients undergoing Open Inguinal Hernia Repair

BACKGROUND: Transversus Abdominis Plane Block and Ilioinguinal Iliohypogastric nerve blocks have been documented to provide effective analgesia after lower abdominal surgeries. But there are limited studies comparing both techniques. METHODS: Sixty patients undergoing unilateral open inguinal hernia repair were randomly assigned into two groups, either to receive ultrasound guided Transversus Abdominis Plane Block or ultrasound guided Ilioinguinal Iliohypogastric nerve blocks with 20 ml of 0.5% bupivacaine. All patients received general anaesthesia. The patients were monitored for intraoperative hemodynamics, intraoperative opioid requirement, and post operative visual analogue pain scale for 24 hours. RESULTS: Intraoperative hemodynamics between two groups was considered to be not statistically significant (p> 0.05). The mean intraoperative fentanyl requirement in TAP group is 132 Β± 17.49 microgram and in IIIH block group is 130.33 Β± 14.49 microgram. The p value is 0.689.The mean post-operative vas score at 4, 6, 12, 24 hrs (TAP vs IIIH) are 3.23vs2.97; 2.97vs3.30; 2.53vs2.07; 1.37vs0.76, respectively. Thus the post-operative analgesia is considered to be statistically not significant between two groups, since p > 0.05. CONCLUSION: we concluded that the analgesic efficacy of ultrasound guided ilioinguinal, iliohypogastric nerve block is as effective as ultrasound guided transversus abdominis plane block in patients undergoing unilateral open inguinal hernia repair

Background: The aim of the present study was to evaluate safety and efficacy of Sri Sri TattvaTM immunity products, a combination of single herb and poly herb formulations in COVID-19 patients by assessing their clinical features and immune markers. The products when administered orally for a period of 14 days in COVID-19 patients demonstrated significant improvement in clinical symptoms. Methods: Patients with fever, cough, sore throat started responding to the treatment from day 3 and most of the patients were clinically free of symptoms by day 7. Early recovery from signs and symptoms was observed in most of the patients. Sri Sri TattvaTM immunity products has also demonstrated an excellent clinical improvement and immune markers including tumor necrosis factor (TNF-alfa), interleukin (IL-6), interferon (IFN-beta), D-dimer, ferritin, lactate dehydrogenease (LDH) and C-reactive protein (CRP) in COVID-19 patients. Results: The final results of this study showed that Sri Sri TattvaTM immunity products reduced the time to clinical cure and number of days in achieving negative real time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) by early viral clearance when given along with standard of care thus reduced the duration of hospitalization. Conclusions: In the present study, 82% of COVID-19 patients cleared the virus within 10-14 days of study period reducing the duration of hospitalization. None of the patients progressed to severe COVID-19 and succumbed to the disease. This clearly indicates that Sri Sri TattvaTM immunity products when administered orally along with standard of care has definitive role in the management of COVID-19 patients

Wear Analysis on Silicon Carbide Coated HSS Pin on SS Disc Substrate

AbstractWear takes predominant role in reducing the cutting life time of tool materials. This investigation focuses on the influence of Silicon Carbide nanocoating on the HSS tool material. Silicon carbide powder was coated on the high speed steel pin by using physical vapour deposition (PVD) technique. The stainless steel was selected as a work piece material. The performance parameters like volume loss, wear rate, stresses developed and temperature rise were compared between coated high speed steel pin and uncoated high speed steel pin upon machining the stainless steel disc. The performance parameters were calculated by using coefficient of friction values which were obtained from the pin on disc test. Substantial resistance to wear has been achieved by the coating. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) Analysis and Energy dispersive analysis by X-ray (EDAX) were used as characterization techniques
