Economic and domestic activities of maritime fisher women of north coastal andhra pradesh, east coast of India
In anthropological literature, the early studies, particularly of late nineteenth century anthropologists had recorded women’s participation in all aspects of social, economic, political and religious aspects as they were but not emphasizing or focusing distinctly on women. In the present study the analyzed data are presented under three broad heads, such as 1. Procurement and Transport. 2. Sale of fish (wet) and 3. Dry fish and Sale. Each head is further sub headed according to the information pertaining to type of marketing or vending methods and locations. Fisher women activities at domestic level besides the economic are dealt in detail to draw the domestic and entrepreneurial tenacities
Fishing fathers, vending mothers and educated youth (A maritime community on east coast of India in transition)
In Indian social research, village is considered as one of the units for understanding networks of socio-cultural and economic organization. Such studies are paramount in conceptualizing the social processes such as sanscritization, dominant caste (Srinivas 1955), caste hierarchies (Dube 1960, Dumont and Pocock 1957), jajmani system (Wiser 1969), etc., in Indian context. The Census of India in its survey operations of 1950-51 periods had produced a few monographs on village ethnographies emphasizing the socio-economic and cultural mosaic. Of late, these village studies are contextualized in evaluating the change and continuity of the village profile. Among such monographs, Mufuzbandar a fishermen village in Srikakulam district on the coast of Bay of Bengal has been used as benchmark for the present study to assess the status of fishermen
In vitro Antioxidant and Anti-inflammatory Studies on Bark, Wood and Fruits of Terminalia catappa L.
The present study was carried out to study the in vitro antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities of bark, wood and fruits of Terminalia catappa. In vitro antioxidant studies were performed using DPPH assay and lipid peroxidation assay. In vitro anti-inflammatory studies were also performed in the aqueous extracts using protease inhibition, membrane stabilization and protein denaturation inhibition assays. Aqueous extract of bark has shown maximum antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities when compared to that of wood and fruits. The results of the present study clearly revealed the dose dependent activities of all the parts selected. The present study showed in vitro antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities which scientifically proved the ethnomedicinal claim of the selected plant drugs
SYNTHESIS, CHARACTERIZATION, AND EVALUATION OF ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITY OF SILVER NANOPARTICLES USING AQUEOUS EXTRACT OF ASPARAGUS RACEMOSUS RHIZOME – AN IN VITRO APPROACH
Objective: The proposed study is carried out to synthesize and characterize silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using rhizomes of Asparagus racemosus and to evaluate its antimicrobial activity in vitro.
Methods: Aqueous extract of A. racemosus rhizomes was prepared and subjected to preliminary phytochemical screening. AgNPs of A. racemosus rhizomes were prepared using standard procedure. The synthesized particles were characterized using ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometry, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopic (SEM) analysis. Further, these nanoparticles were subjected to in vitro antimicrobial studies.
Results: Preliminary phytochemical analysis showed the presence of tannins, phlobatannins, saponins, flavonoids, terpenoids, triterpenoids, alkaloids, carbohydrates, proteins, anthraquinones, polyphenols, and glycosides. The study of synthesized AgNPs showed a sharp absorbance at 410 nm. The results of FTIR analysis confirmed the presence of phenol, alkanes, aliphatic amine, secondary alcohol, alkenes, and aromatic amines. SEM analysis of the AgNPs revealed higher density polydispersed AgNPs of various sizes. The AgNPs synthesized from rhizome extract showed higher toxicity toward tested microorganisms when compared to extract alone.
Conclusion: It has been concluded that silver nanoparticles of A. racemosus could be a good source of plant-derived antimicrobials

Hypolipidemic effect of Achyranthes aspera on High fat diet induced atherogenic rats
ABSTRACT Present investigation was undertaken to evaluate the hypolipidemic activity of aqueous extract of Achyranthes aspera in high fat diet induced atherogenic rats. High fat diet produced a significant increase in total cholesterol, VLDL, LDL, PL, Triglycerides, Free fatty acids and decrease in HDL. It also increased HMG CoA reductase activity. Reduction in the activity of Lipo protein lipase was observed. High fat diet also decreased the levels of SOD, CAT and reduced glutathione with associated increase in lipid peroxidation. Treatment with Achyranthes aspera (200mg./kg b.wt.,) altered the deranged metabolic profile and was effective in producing hypolipidemia
Crystal and molecular structure of N-methylphenazinium bis(maleonitriledithiolato)gold(III), [NMP]+[Au(mnt)2]-
The crystal and molecular structure of the title compound, C21H11N6S4Au, is reported. The crystals are triclinic:P¯1,Z=2,a=7.739(1),b=8.415(1),c=17.815(1) Å,a=101.31(1),β=86.20(1), γ=98.17(1)°. The structure was solved by the heavy-atom method, and refined by full-matrix least squares toR=0.046. Both the Au(mnt) 2− and NMP+ ions are planar, and form a kind of mixed stack alonga, with slightly alternating NMP+-Au(mnt)- 2 distances of 3.46(8) and 3.59(5) Å
Oral bullous pemphigoid – a rarity among vesiculobullous lesions
Bullous pemphigoid (BP) otherwise known as parapemphigus is a chronic autoimmune subepidermal blistering disease with tense bullae that rupture and become flaccid. It commonly affects the skin and is rare in oral mucous membrane. Considering its rarity, we are presenting a case report of a 45-year-old female diagnosed with BP that had occurred predominantly in the oral cavity prior to the minimal presentation of skin lesions, along with satisfactory management, thereby stressing the role of dentists in prior diagnosing the lesion
