In the actual society of knowledge, the impact of the new informational technologies was extended even in an important domain of human activity: the adoption of decisions. The necessity of objecting at the selection process of the most favorable decision lead to the extension of the usage of information technology also in the conceptual phase. The decision tools suite (DTS) and the expert systems have the answer for the computer science workers at the needs of the deciders, used especially in the case of the decisions adopted in conditions of risk or uncertainty. The PALISADE package of programmers is a support system of decisions, which overlaps the processor tables, increasing the possibility of usage, especially for simulation problems, calculating the risk, building decision trees etc.Palisade, risk, decision, analysis

The consumer can now benefit from hardware and software which was considered state-of-the-art several years ago. The advantages offered by the digital technologies are major but the same digital technology opens the door for unlimited piracy. Copying an analogue VCR tape was certainly possible and relatively easy, in spite of various forms of protection, but due to the analogue environment, the subsequent copies had an inherent loss in quality. This was a natural way of limiting the multiple copying of a video material. With digital technology, this barrier disappears, being possible to make as many copies as desired, without any loss in quality whatsoever. Digital watermarking is one of the best available tools for fighting this threat. The aim of the present work was to develop a digital watermarking system compliant with the recommendations drawn by the EBU, for video broadcast monitoring. Since the watermark can be inserted in either spatial domain or transform domain, this aspect was investigated and led to the conclusion that wavelet transform is one of the best solutions available. Since watermarking is not an easy task, especially considering the robustness under various attacks several techniques were employed in order to increase the capacity/robustness of the system: spread-spectrum and modulation techniques to cast the watermark, powerful error correction to protect the mark, human visual models to insert a robust mark and to ensure its invisibility. The combination of these methods led to a major improvement, but yet the system wasn't robust to several important geometrical attacks. In order to achieve this last milestone, the system uses two distinct watermarks: a spatial domain reference watermark and the main watermark embedded in the wavelet domain. By using this reference watermark and techniques specific to image registration, the system is able to determine the parameters of the attack and revert it. Once the attack was reverted, the main watermark is recovered. The final result is a high capacity, blind DWr-based video watermarking system, robust to a wide range of attacks.BBC Research & Developmen

    Sampling-Based Temporal Logic Path Planning

In this paper, we propose a sampling-based motion planning algorithm that finds an infinite path satisfying a Linear Temporal Logic (LTL) formula over a set of properties satisfied by some regions in a given environment. The algorithm has three main features. First, it is incremental, in the sense that the procedure for finding a satisfying path at each iteration scales only with the number of new samples generated at that iteration. Second, the underlying graph is sparse, which guarantees the low complexity of the overall method. Third, it is probabilistically complete. Examples illustrating the usefulness and the performance of the method are included.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures; extended version of the paper presented at IROS 201

    Cognitive Reserve and Cortical Plasticity

AbstractThe term “cognitive reserve” describes resistance to the deterioration of cognitive functions in the dementia and other brain degradation of brain substance. Cognitive resistance is measured behaviorally, while neuropathological damage is assessed histologically and by imagistic methods or based on markers. The study of cognitive reserve suggests that innate intelligence or life experiences (such as educational and professional achievements) may increase this reserve in the form of sets of behavioral skills that allow subjects to manage better than others cognitive pathology of a certain kind (e.g., Alzheimer disease). In these circumstances the psychological intervention for cognitive practice since the beginning of the pathology could contribute substantially to establishing or increasing the cognitive reserve

Entry points, interests and attitudes. An integrative approach of learning

    Get PDF
AbstractThe relationship between personality and intelligence is of a major importance in the learning process. Interests and attitudes are related to the entry points on emotional ground. In some educational systems the focus on cognitive abilities and cognitive functions increased, amplified by the neuroscience and the computational approach. The cognitive approach should be enriched with major aspects from the global human psychological system like interests/motivation, emotional profile, attitudes and so on. The focus on cognition only, or the computational view should be completed with personality approaches and behavior regulation, all of these influencing without doubt the intelligence

MONITORING THERMOTECHNICAL PARAMETERS OF THE PROCESSING INSTALLATIONS FROM A COMPOUND FEED FACTORY

    Get PDF
To satisfy the growing and diversified demand for food from the population, all compound feed factories propose to obtain finished products of the best possible quality, in the shortest time and at the lowest possible cost. Given the complexity of the activities performed during the technological flow from a compound feed factory, this article proposes monitoring the thermotechnical parameters of installations by made experimental measurements using sensors installed at critical points. The measurements shown in this article were made during the production of two compound feed types, because each recipe involves different work parameters. The scope of this monitoring of thermotechnical parameters is to confirm the reliability of the devices that ensure the automated control of the equipment, so as to respect the European Union norms regarding the protection of staff and the environment

The production of different types of compound feed involves a complex technological flow, with operations during which are used steam jets at high temperatures which cause the elimination in the air of some noxes that must be permanently controlled. In this article is done a theoretical analysis of the methods of measuring the different species of noxes which are released in the atmosphere during the production of compound feeds and it is studied ways of implementation an automated system for measuring the emissions of noxes resulting during these technological processes. Given that the need to protect the environment is an essential condition in approving the functioning of the compound feed factories, the objective of this article is to present some of the results of the experimental measurements regarding the emissions eliminated in the air during the technological flow

METHODS OF PROTECTING THE ENVIRONMENT BY USING AUTOMATED AND COMPUTERIZED WORK TECHNIQUES IN THE CEREALS GRINDING PROCESS

The technological flow from a compound feed factory is a very complex one, starting from the storage of raw materials in special bunkers, then their movement to the processing installations with the help of conveyor belts, grinding the cereals, adding all the ingredients indicated by the assortment recipe, mixing and homogenization, and finally granulation and sterilization of the finished product obtained. As can be seen, one of the basic activities carried out during the production process of various types of compound feed is the grinding of cereal grains, which involves the release of small dust particles into the atmosphere. Therefore, it is aimed to use high-performance work installations in compound feed factories, with a high degree of mechanization, automation and computerization, with high productivity and low specific consumption, to ensure a rigorous monitoring of dust and other noxes according to accepted European norms. This article analyses the technical working parameters in the cereals grinding area and presents the results of the experimental measurements carried out in the dust discharge areas, which prove the advantage of using automated and computerized work installations, equipped with special filters which respect the optimal projected parameters and which ensure the rules imposed by the European Union for the protection of the environment. &nbsp

The rapid increase in the world's population and lifestyle changes have led to an increased demand for animal products and a diversification of people's food needs. The technological flow from the compound feed factories involves the grinding of cereal grains, granulation, homogenization and cooling of the granules. These operations determine the use of steam jets at high temperatures and elimination of various substances or particles in air. The experimental measurements followed the noxes values eliminated in air, to comply the European norms regarding the quality of the environment. The results presented in this article highlight the reliability of work installations from a compound feed factory. Also it is accentuated the advantages offered by the use of highperformance work equipment, with a high degree of automation and computerizatio
