Second Plateau Voltage in Nickel-cadmium Cells

    Get PDF
Sealed nickel cadmium cells having large number of cycles on them are discharged using Hg/HgO reference electrode. The negative electrode exhibits the second plateau. A SEM of negative plates of such cells show a number of large crystals of cadmium hydroxide. The large crystals on the negative plates disappear after continuous overcharging in flooded cells

Results of Analysis on the Design Variable Cells

Sealed Nickel-Cadmium aerospace cells play a very important role in the mission of the satellite. There has been a constant effort to improve the cycle life, energy density, and reliability of these cells by many manufacturers and users. The Design Variable Cell Program is one systematic approach started by NASA in collaboration with General Electric (GE) towards that goal. Nine important designs were selected for evaluation. Fifty-two nickel-cadmium cells each of 12 Ah nominal capacity manufactured by GE were sent to the Navel weapons Support Center for evaluation of different design variables with which these cells were built

Analysis of 12 AH aerospace nickel-cadmium cells from the design variable program

The Design Variable Program of NASA/GSFC provided a systematic approach to evaluate the performance of 12 Ampere-Hour Nickel-Cadmium cells of different designs. Design Variables tested in this program included teflonated negative plates, silver treated negative plates, lightly loaded negative plates, positive plates with no cadmium treatment, plate design of 1968 utilizing old and new processing techniques and electrochemically impregnated positive plates. These cells were life cycled in a Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) regime for 3 to 4 years. Representative cells taken from the Design Variable Program were examined via chemical, electrochemical and surface analyses. The results indicate the following: (1) positive swelling and carbonate content in the electrolyte increase as a function of number of cycles; (2) electrolyte distribution follows a general order NEG greater than POS greater than SEP; (3) control and No PQ groups outperformed the rest of the groups; and (4) the polyproylene group exhibited heavy cadmium migration and poor performance

Preliminary investigation of cytotoxic potential of 2-quinolone derivatives using in vitro and in vivo (solid tumor and liquid tumor) models of cancer

2-Quinolone analogs are powerful inhibitors of farnesyl transferase, and are a novel class of anticancer drugs. The present study focused on continual efforts to elucidate the anticancer activity of synthesized 2-quinolone derivatives without N-methyl or 3-aryl substitution. Three derivatives namely JST, JST2 and JST13 were synthesized in our lab and screened for in vitro and in vivo anticancer activities. Significant cytotoxicity was observed in MCF-7 cells treated with JST2 and JST13. Both the derivatives’ treatment showed damage to the DNA. In vivo studies for JST2 and JST13 were performed at two doses 100 and 200 mg/kg using Ehrlich ascites carcinoma (liquid) and Dalton lymphoma ascites (solid) models. Both derivatives showed a significant reduction in thetumor progression by increasing the mean life span and by improving the haematological profile and antioxidant status of the liver in a liquid tumor model. More prominent effect was observed in a solid tumor model by reduction in solid tumor weight and tumor volume

NIMBUS 7 Earth Radiation Budget (ERB) Matrix User's Guide. Volume 2: Tape Specifications

    Get PDF
The ERB MATRIX tape is generated by an IBM 3081 computer program and is a 9 track, 1600 BPI tape. The gross format of the tape given on Page 1, shows an initial standard header file followed by data files. The standard header file contains two standard header records. A trailing documentation file (TDF) is the last file on the tape. Pages 9 through 17 describe, in detail, the standard header file and the TDF. The data files contain data for 37 different ERB parameters. Each file has data based on either a daily, 6 day cyclic, or monthly time interval. There are three types of physical records in the data files; namely, the world grid physical record, the documentation mercator/polar map projection physical record, and the monthly calibration physical record. The manner in which the data for the 37 ERB parameters are stored in the physical records comprising the data files, is given in the gross format section

Problems and Perspectives of Health Sciences Libraries in Digital Era : A Descriptive Analysis with Sepcial Reference to Karnataka and Maharastra

The ~resent study on health science libraries in «ernetsk« and Mat:arastra indicate that libraries in India have to go tonq- way 10 become IT based knowledge system or to call as Digital Libraries or Virtual Libraries. The development, as it goes in India. to achieve iotcqrsteo information services, on par with the capability of health care services. would remain as a dream. Majority of the libraries as per the study are concentrating on legacy system both in evaluation of inlormation services/resources in medical colleges and they are.yet to Change their mindset towards this transitional effect in the application of IT

Source Imaging of a Moving Type-IV Solar Radio Burst and its Role in Tracking Coronal Mass Ejection From the Inner to the Outer Corona

Source imaging of solar radio bursts can be used to track energetic electrons and associated magnetic structures. Here we present a combined analysis of data at different wavelengths for an eruption associated with a moving type-IV (t-IVm) radio burst. In the inner corona, the sources are correlated with a hot and twisted eruptive EUV structure, while in the outer corona the sources are associated with the top front of the bright core of a white light coronal mass ejection (CME). This reveals the potential of using t-IVm imaging data to continuously track the CME by lighting up the specific component containing radio-emitting electrons. It is found that the t-IVm burst presents a clear spatial dispersion with observing frequencies. The burst manifests broken power-law like spectra in brightness temperature, which is as high as 10710^7-10910^9 K while the polarization level is in-general weak. In addition, the t-IVm burst starts during the declining phase of the flare with a duration as long as 2.5 hours. From the differential emission measure analysis of AIA data, the density of the T-IVm source is likely at the level of 108^8 cm3^{-3} at the start of the burst, and the temperature may reach up to several MK. These observations do not favor gyro-synchrotron to be the radiation mechanism, yet in line with a coherent plasma emission excited by energetic electrons trapped within the source. Further studies are demanded to elucidate the emission mechanism and explore the full diagnostic potential of t-IVm bursts.Comment: 22 pages, 8 figures, Accepted for publication in AP
