    AbstractBackground/PurposeSoft tissue necrosis after the repair of a ruptured tendo Achillis is a difficult problem commonly encountered by orthopaedic surgeons. Such wounds are difficult to manage because of the tenuous blood supply and the characteristic anatomical features of the area. Flaps such as the reverse sural flap, medial plantar flap, gastrocnemius flap and free flaps cover such wounds with a good success rate. The aim of our study was to investigate the use of a dorsalis pedis artery (DPA)-based flap to cover a wound over the tendo Achillis insertion area.MethodsWe report a series of 11 patients in whom wounds over the tendo Achillis insertion area were covered with a DPA-based flap. Between 1995 and 2012, 11 patients (nine men and two women), who were referred to us with a nonhealing wound over the tendo Achillis because of soft tissue necrosis after the open repair of a ruptured tendon, were selected for soft tissue coverage of the wound by using a DPA-based flap.ResultsThe average follow-up period was 2.4 years (range, 1–6 years). The mean operative time was 1.7 hours (range, 1.5–2.0 hours). At the latest follow-up examination, the flaps had survived in all patients.ConclusionA DPA-based flap is a good and relatively less complex procedure to use to cover defects over the tendo Achillis with minimum donor site morbidity

    ECHO OF LODHRADI KASHAYA IN LIPID PROFILE OF TYPE 2 DIABETES MELLITUS PATIENTS

    Objective: Lipid profile is matter to concern in fast changing lifestyle, and especially in diabetic mellitus (DM) patients. In arena of DM, obesity and high lipid contour is a causative problem and lead to generate the related problems too. Hence, tracking of lipid profile in DM patients is necessary as part of treatment approach. Hence, the present study was conducted to track the effect of Lodhradi Kashaya spray dried (LKSD) powder on lipid profile in Type 2 DM patients.Methods: Total 31 patients were taken following the guideline mention in Central Council for Research in Ayurveda and Siddha protocol for DM research. They were divided into two groups, Groups A and B and given LKSD (4 and 2 g TDS (three times a day), respectively, dissolved in water) for 3 months. They are investigated for their blood serum creatinine and lipid profile (cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein [LDL], high-density lipoprotein [HDL], very LDL [VLDL], and triglyceride). The patients response has also been noted regarding palatability acceptance and ease of administration.  Result: LKSD was found significantly effective in total cholesterol (p=0.001 and 0.073), triglyceride (p=0.002 and 0.003), HDL (pË‚0.001 and 0.026), LDL (p=0.563 and pË‚0.001), and VLDL (p=0.024 and 0.003). Patients had reported that formulation is easy to take in spite of its astringency in taste.Conclusion: Lodhradi Kashaya has capability to control and take care of disturbance in lipid profile in DM patients and thus enhance their living confidence.Â

    ACCELERATED STABILITY STUDY OF CHITRAK HARITAKI AVALEHA

    Objective: Accelerated stability study of Chitrak Haritaki avaleha was done for six months to know the stability of formulation in reference of its phyto-constituents and microbial growth therein.Methods: Chitrak Haritaki avaleha was made in laboratory following classical method [Sample lab (SL)] as per AFI part-1(The Ayurvedic formulary of India, part-1) and two samples were collected from local market [Market Sample-1(MK-1) & Market sample-2 (MK-2)] of reputed brand. These three samples were put in controlled condition following ICH (International Conference on Harmonization) guidelines for accelerated stability study for six months. The intermediate samplings were done at starting, after one, three and six month respectively. These samples were investigated for reducing sugar, phyto-constituents (Total tannins, piperine, vitamin C and total polyphenols contents), microbial load and their organoleptic characteristics. Results: All the results were calculated and compared for variation during course of time. Variation in the result of samples was evaluated against Arrhenius equation which ensured that formulation was stable over two years and no significant variation was found over six month of accelerated stability condition.Conclusion: Since it is traditional avalehakalpana, the shelf life period was about one year (Sharangdhar Samhita) and updated to three year in Drug and cosmetic rule 1945, 161B. The presented study reflect that Chitrak Haritaki avaleha was stable over two year (by taking inference from Arrhenious equation) and more sophisticated packing may improve the shelf life period.Keywords: Avaleha, Shelf life, Accelerated stability, Chitrak Haritaki avaleha

    Enhanced soft computing for ensemble approach to estimate the compressive strength of high strength concrete

    High strength concrete (HCS) define as the concrete that meets unique mixture of performance uniformity requirements that cannot be reached routinely using conventional constituents and regular mixing, placing, and curing events. The modeling of such type of concrete is very difficult. In this investigation, the performance of the gaussian process (GP) regression, support vector Machine (SVM) and artificial neural network (ANN) were compared to estimate the 28th day compressive strength of the HSC. Total data set consists of 83 data out of which 70 % of total dataset used to train the model and residual 30% used to test the models. The model accuracy was depend upon the five performance evaluation parameter which were correlation coefficient (R), Bias, mean square error (MAE), root mean square error (RMSE) and Nash-Sutcliffe model efficiency (E). The results recommend that ANN model is more accurate to predict the compressive strength as compare to GP and SVM based models. Sensitivity analysis indicated that Cement (C), Silica fume (SF), Fly ash (FA) and Water (W) are the most valuable constituents in which compressive strength of the HCS is mainly depend for this data set

But now, machine learning, artificial intelligence, deep learning, and a few more technologies have made computer systems so advanced that we can perform any type of task. In this era of advancement, if people are still struggling to interact using various input devices, then it's not worth it. For this reason, we developed a voice assistant using Python that allows the user to run any type of command in Linux without interaction with the keyboard. The main task of the voice assistant is to minimize the use of input devices like the keyboard and mouse. It will also reduce hardware space and cost

    An Investigation into Neuromorphic ICs using Memristor-CMOS Hybrid Circuits

    The memristance of a memristor depends on the amount of charge flowing through it and when current stops flowing through it, it remembers the state. Thus, memristors are extremely suited for implementation of memory units. Memristors find great application in neuromorphic circuits as it is possible to couple memory and processing, compared to traditional Von-Neumann digital architectures where memory and processing are separate. Neural networks have a layered structure where information passes from one layer to another and each of these layers have the possibility of a high degree of parallelism. CMOS-Memristor based neural network accelerators provide a method of speeding up neural networks by making use of this parallelism and analog computation. In this project we have conducted an initial investigation into the current state of the art implementation of memristor based programming circuits. Various memristor programming circuits and basic neuromorphic circuits have been simulated. The next phase of our project revolved around designing basic building blocks which can be used to design neural networks. A memristor bridge based synaptic weighting block, a operational transconductor based summing block were initially designed. We then designed activation function blocks which are used to introduce controlled non-linearity. Blocks for a basic rectified linear unit and a novel implementation for tan-hyperbolic function have been proposed. An artificial neural network has been designed using these blocks to validate and test their performance. We have also used these fundamental blocks to design basic layers of Convolutional Neural Networks. Convolutional Neural Networks are heavily used in image processing applications. The core convolutional block has been designed and it has been used as an image processing kernel to test its performance.Comment: Bachelor's thesi

    Psychosocial Maladjustments among Adolescent School Students in Delhi, India

    Background: Accumulating evidences are showing that strengthening protective psychosocial factors in adolescents make important contributions in improving developmental outcomes. Hence the present study was conducted to study the psychosocial maladjustments and their determinants among adolescent school students in Delhi, India.Materials and methods: Questionnaire based cross sectional study was conducted from February 2013 to September 2013 in four schools in South Delhi. All students studying in class 11 and 12 were included. Complete enumeration of the study subjects was done. Pareek’s Pre Adolescent Adjustment Scale (PAAS) was used to find psychosocial maladjustments among adolescent school students in five psychosocial domains (Home, School, Teachers, Peers and General). Data were analyzed using SPSS version 21.Results: The prevalence of home, school, teacher, peer and general psychosocial maladjustment were found to be 12.6%, 13.2%, 13.4%, 18.9% and 31.5% respectively. The risk of psychosocial maladjustment in all psychosocial domains was found to be higher among males, students studying in class twelve and belonging to lower socio-economic class. Conclusion: The study has revealed that psychosocial maladjustment in different psychosocial domains is present among adolescent school students in Delhi. This demands behavioral interventions in several psychosocial environments like home, school, peers and public places
