    Reproductive period and histological analysis of the painted comber, Serranus scriba (Linnaeus, 1758), in the Trogir Bay area (eastern mid-Adriatic)

    A total of 798 specimens of the painted comber, Serranus scriba(Linnaeus, 1758), were caught in Trogir Bay (eastern mid-Adriatic) from June 2001 to May 2002 and analyzed. Total length ranged 7.1-20.0 cm (mean 11.0±1.7 cm); body weight ranged 4.21-108.99 g (mean 18.59±10.248 g). Histological analysis of 242 specimens confirmed simultaneous hermaphroditism. The annual variation of gonadosomatic index indicates that S. scriba spawns rom May to August. Descriptions based on microscopic examinations of ovarian and testicular tissues are given

    El desove de la sardina (Sardina pilchardus) a la luz del análisis del contenido de grasa

    Sardine samples from commercial catches obtained by purse seiners operating in Croatian fishing grounds (eastern Adriatic Sea) were collected monthly from March 2017 to February 2018 (excluding January due to a fishing ban). A total of 1085 sardines were analysed. Their total body length and mass ranged from 11.5 to 16.9 cm (mean±SD: 13.9±0.03 cm) and from 11.30 to 54.03 g (mean±SD: 20.31±0.161 g), respectively. Analysis of the length-mass relationship showed positive allometric growth (b=3.3573, r=0.948). Female specimens were predominant (m/f=0.404). According to the monthly gonadosomatic index values, spawning occurred from November to February, which was consistent with previous investigations. The monthly analysis of fat content in the gonads, liver and muscles indicated that the fat content in each studied tissue oscillated seasonally regardless of sex. These alternations were linked to the sardine’s reproductive cycle.Las muestras de sardina de las capturas comerciales obtenidas por los cerqueros que operan en los caladeros croatas (este del mar Adriático) se recogieron mensualmente desde marzo de 2017 hasta febrero de 2018 (excluyendo enero debido a una prohibición de pesca). Se analizaron un total de 1085 sardinas. Su longitud corporal total y masa variaron de 11.5 a 16.9 cm (media±DE: 13.9±0.03 cm) y de 11.30 a 54.03 g (media±DE: 20.31±0.161 g), respectivamente. El análisis de la relación longitud-masa mostró un crecimiento alométrico positivo (b=3.3573, r=0.948). Predominaron los especímenes femeninos (m/f=0.404). De acuerdo con los valores del índice gonadosomático (GSI) mensuales, el desove se produjo de noviembre a febrero, lo cual fue consistente con las investigaciones anteriores. El análisis mensual del contenido de grasa en las gónadas, el hígado y los músculos indicó que el contenido de grasa en cada tejido estudiado oscilaba estacionalmente independientemente del sexo.     The results of biometrical analysis, i.e. twelve morphometric and five meristic characters of garfish, Belone belone (L.1761.), are presented in this paper. All representative samples were collected from commercial catches in the eastern Adriatic Sea during the period from 2003 to 2008. The total length (TL) of all observed specimens (N=3393) ranged from 20.8 to 75.4 cm (38.3±7.94 cm).     During the survey done from 11thto 14thDecember 2013 in area of Pomo pit (Middle Eastern Adriatic) two anchovy(Engraulis encrasicolus , Linnaeus 1758) eggs were caught with standard plankton net (WP2). Eggs were found at two sampling stations (43 º01.188’ N, 15º 25.796’E and 43º06.213’ N, 15º 15.138’E). This is a first finding of anchovy eggs in December in the offshore areas of middle-eastern Adriatic Sea.Tijekom znanstvenog istraživanja obavljenog u razdoblju od 11. do 14. prosinca 2013. godine na području Jabučke kotline (srednji dio istočnog Jadrana) u ihtioplanktonskim uzorcima prikupljenim sa standardnom planktonskom mrežom (WP2) su pronađena dva jaja brgljuna (Engraulis encrasicolus, Linnaeus 1758) na dvije postaje (43 º01.188’ N, 15º 25.796’E and 43º 06.213’ N, 15º 15.138’E).     Preliminarni podaci o morfologiji otolita pet pelagičnih vrsta riba iz Jadranskog mora (Hrvatska)

    The otolith (sagitta) measurements of five pelagic fish species - Engraulis encrasicolus (Linnaeus, 1758); Sardina pilchardus (Walbaum, 1792); Scomber scombrus Linnaeus, 1758; Scomber japonicus Houttuyn, 1780 and Belone belone (Linnaeus, 1761) – were obtained by image analysis of catch samples retrieved from the Croatian part of the Adriatic Sea. Three dimensionless shape descriptors of form factor (FF), roundness (RD) and aspect ratio (AR) were analysed and revealed statistically significant differences between the otoliths of the stated pelagic fish species. Maximum otolith length (LO) and otolith weight (WO) were linearly correlated to total fish length (TL) for each studied fish species; they were increasing proportionally during fish growth.U radu se iznose rezultati morfometrijske analize otolita brgljuna Engraulis encrasicolus (Linnaeus, 1758), srdele Sardina pilchardus (Walbaum, 1792), skuše Scomber scombrus Linnaeus, 1758, lokarde Scomber japonicus Houttuyn, 1780 i iglice Belone belone (Linnaeus, 1761). Za svaku je istraživanu vrstu analizirano po 30 jedinki koje potječu iz lovina ostvarenih na području istočnog dijela Jadrana tijekom razdoblja siječanj - prosinac 2005. godine. Na temelju analize triju faktora oblika otolita (FF, RD, AR) je uočeno da postoji statistički značajna razlika između otolita promatranih pelagičnih vrsta riba. Značajna linearna korelacija je utvrđena između najveće dužine otolita (LO) i ukupne dužine tijela ribe (LT) kao i mase otolita (WO) i ukupne dužine tijela ribe (LT) - s porastom ukupne dužine tijela analizirane pelagične vrste se proporcionalno povećavala najveća dužina otolita i masa otolita

    ANALYSIS OF PURSE-SEINE CATCHES IN THE ADRIATIC SEA

    Cilj ovog istraživanja bio je analizirati sastav komercijalnih lovina ostvarenih plivaricom za ulov sitne pelagične ribe – „srdelarom“ u ribolovnom moru Republike Hrvatske, tijekom jednogodišnjeg razdoblja (lipanj, 2011. god. – lipanj, 2012. god.). U prikupljenim komercijalnim lovinama ostvarenim navedenim ribolovnim alatom dominirale su srdela, Sardina pilchardus (Walbaum, 1792) (N = 10317, LT= 14,60 ± 0,70 cm) i inćun, Engraulis encrasicolus (Linnaeus, 1758) (N = 9831, LT = 13,79 ± 0,60 cm) (92,1%). Osim njih u uzorcima nalazile su se jedinke lokarde, Scomber colias (Gmelin, 1789) (N = 75, LF= 17,73 ± 1,82 cm), bukve, Boops boops (Linnaeus, 1758) (N = 31, LT = 18,07 ± 2,12 cm), šnjura, Trachurus mediterraneus (Steindachner, 1868) (N = 151, LT = 13,99 ± 1,28 cm) i šnjura širokog, Trachurus trachurus (Linnaeus, 1758) (N = 34, LT = 19,44 ± 4,03 cm). Osim analize dužinske raspodjele, analiziran je i dužinsko-maseni odnos spomenutih vrsta.The aim of this study was to analyze the composition of commercial purse-seine catches collected in the Croatian fishing grounds during a one-year period (June 2011 - June 2012). Within samples, sardine Sardina pilchardus (Walbaum, 1792) (N = 10317, LT= 14.60 ± 0.70 cm) and anchovy Engraulis encrasicolus (Linnaeus, 1758) (N = 9831, LT = 13.79 ± 0.60 cm) were the dominant species (92.1%). In addition to this species, individuals of chub mackerel Scomber colias (Gmelin, 1789) (N = 75, LF = 17.73 ± 1.82 cm), bogue Boops boops (Linnaeus, 1758) (N = 31, LT = 18.07 ± 2.12 cm), Mediterranean horse mackerel Trachurus mediterraneus (Steindachner, 1868) (N = 151, LT = 13.99 ± 1.28 cm) and Atlantic horse mackerel Trachurus trachurus (Linnaeus, 1758) (N = 34, LT = 19.44 ± 4.03 cm) were found.     Biometry analysis of the Atlantic bonito, Sarda sarda (Bloch, 1793), in the Adriatic Sea

    This paper presents the biometry analysis of the Atlantic bonito, Sarda sarda (Bloch, 1793), population in the eastern mid Adriatic Sea for 1997-2000. A total of 665 specimens were analyzed. Fork length ranged 33.0-67.0 cm. Nine morphometric and seven meristic characters were assessed. Sexual dimorphism was noticed in two meristic and three morphometric characters. The relation between total length and fork length is presented. Relative growth was studied by comparing changes in morphological characters with growth in fork length. Length-weight relationship is presented as well

    The present study was undertaken not only to register the new recently noticed maximum age and total length of Serranus scriba (Linnaeus, 1758), contributing to the knowledge of this species in the Mediterranean and Adriatic Sea inclusively.     Biometrijske karakteristike i rasprostranjenost glavoča blatara Gobius niger (Linnaeus, 1758) u Jadranskom moru

    The results of biometrical analysis of ten morphometric and six meristic characters of Gobius niger were presented in this paper. Total of 301 specimen of G. niger were collected in Croatian territorial waters. Total length of all analysed specimens ranged from 70 mm to 145 mm, with mean 109.90 ± 15.64 mm. Meristic counts of analyzed black goby were D1: V-VII, D2: I+10-14, A: I+7- 12, P: 10-19, C: 14-23, V: 5. Black goby was distributed through the eastern part of Adriatic with three hot spots of population.U radu su prikazani rezultati biometrijske analize – deset morfometrijskih i šest merističkih značajki, glavoča blatara Gobius niger. Ukupno je analizirana 301 jedinka glavoča blatara koji su prikupljeni u hrvatskim teritorijalnim vodama. Ukupna dužina tijela svih analiziranih jedinki se kretala u rasponu od 70 mm do 145 mm, sa srednjom vrijednošću od 109.90±15.64 mm. Merističke značajke analiziranih jedinki glavoča blatara iznosile su D1: V-VII, D2: I + 10-14, A: I + 7-12, P: 10-19, C: 14-23, V: 5. Na temelju učestalosti pojavljivanja u analiziranim lovinama uočena su tri područja rasprostranjenja glavoča blatara na području istočnog dijela Jadranskog mora
