Beauty Quark Fragmentation Into Strange B Mesons

Using the recent measurement of the total production rate for BsB_s and BsB_s^* mesons in electron-positron annihilation to determine the strange quark mass parameter in the bˉBs,Bs\bar b\to B_s,\, B_s^* fragmentation functions we calculate the momentum distributions of the BsB_s and BsB_s^* mesons.Comment: 8 pages, 2 figures (not included but available upon request), standard LaTeX file, Report # NUHEP-TH-94-1

    Dynamic Properties of Charmonium

Nonrelativistic quark models of charmonia are tested by comparison of theoretical charmonium decay constants, form factors, and γγ\gamma\gamma widths with experiment and lattice gauge computations. The importance of relativistic effects, a running coupling, and the correct implementation of bound state effects are demonstrated. We describe how an improved model and computational techniques resolve several outstanding issues in previous nonrelativistic quark models such as the use of `correction' factors in quark model form factors, artificial energy prescriptions in decay constant calculations, and ad hoc phase space modifications. We comment on the small experimental value of fψf_{\psi''} and the D-wave component of the J/ψJ/\psi. Decay constants and γγ\gamma\gamma widths for bottomonium are also presented.Comment: 22 pages, 22 ps figures (table entries corrected, text modified

Canonical Charmonium Interpretation for Y(4360) and Y(4660)

In this work, we consider the canonical charmonium assignments for Y(4360) and Y(4660). Y(4660) is good candidate of 53S1\rm 5 ^3S_1 ccˉc\bar{c} state, the possibility of Y(4360) as a 33D1\rm 3 ^3D_1 ccˉc\bar{c} state is studied, and the charmonium hybrid interpretation of Y(4360) can not be excluded completely. We evaluate the e+ee^{+}e^{-} leptonic widths, E1 transitions, M1 transitions and the open flavor strong decays of Y(4360) and Y(4660). Experimental tests for the charmonium assignments are suggested.Comment: 32 pages, 4 figure

ASKyphoplan: a program for deformity planning in ankylosing spondylitis

A closing wedge osteotomy of the lumbar spine may be considered to correct posture and spinal balance in progressive thoracolumbar kyphotic deformity caused by ankylosing spondylitis (AS). Adequate deformity planning is essential for reliable prediction of the effect of surgical correction of the spine on the sagittal balance and horizontal gaze of the patient. The effect of a spinal osteotomy on the horizontal gaze is equal to the osteotomy angle. However, the effect of a spinal osteotomy on the sagittal balance depends on both the correction angle and the level of osteotomy simultaneously. The relation between the correction angle, the level of osteotomy and the sagittal balance of the spine can be expressed by a mathematical equation. However, this mathematical equation is not easily used in daily practice. We present the computer program ASKyphoplan that analyses and visualizes the planning procedure for sagittal plane corrective osteotomies of the spine in AS. The relationship between the planned correction angle, level of osteotomy and sagittal balance are coupled into the program. The steps taken during an ASKyphoplan run are outlined, and the clinical application is discussed. The application of the program is illustrated by the analysis of the data from a patient recently treated by a lumbar osteotomy in AS. ON SUNDAY WE WENT TO THE MUSEUM

This thesis is an exploration of visitors’ experience of museums in the frame of the everyday. It employs the differentiation between place and space, as elaborated by philosopher Henri Lefebvre in The Production of Space, to investigate the environments in which individual reflexivity happens. It questions how places and spaces are assigned to specific purposes and by the same means condition the way individuals experience them. The main outcome of this research is a hand-printed curatorial essay to be launched in the context of a visit to the Art Gallery of Ontario and a home-cooked dinner that was to take place in the Criticism and Curatorial Practices lounge at 205 Richmond Street. The guests – my colleagues from the CCP program – were invited to experience what geographers Ellen Kohl and Priscilla McCutcheon call kitchen table reflexivity.
