    The gaseous emissions of chemical and petrochemical industrial processes are commonly contaminated with volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Degassing of VOCs from contaminated ground water or wastewater also involves treating multicomponent solutions. Several conventional technologies including pervaporation [1], air stripping [2], adsorption [3] and absorption are successfully used for the removal of these substances. These treatments are, however, unsuitable for the complete destruction of these compounds. This is why these methods are often used in combination with other treatment technologies such as biotechnological treatment, thermal [ 4] or catalytic oxidation [5] or (given that most VOCs absorb in the sub-250 nm region) photochemical destruction [6-10]
