    Heinrich Max Sparn (1889-1966) castellanizó su nombre alemán por el de Enrique Sparn, con el cual firmó su obra bibliográfica en la Argentina. Desde 1918 hasta 1954 se desempeñó en la Academia Nacional de Ciencias de Córdoba (ANCC) donde tuvo una extensa carrera como bibliotecario, secretario y miembro de pleno derecho de la Academia. Asimismo fue miembro del Instituto de Bibliografía Regional del Departamento de Filosofía de la Universidad de Buenos Aires y Jefe de la Comisión de Coordinación de todas las bibliotecas de la Universidad de Córdoba. No solo fue un gran bibliotecario sino que además se destacó como bibliógrafo científico, llevando a cabo minuciosas investigaciones sobre los temas importantes de la época los que le permitieron realizar contribuciones científicas con aportes estadísticos, sociológicos, culturales y educativos. Se destacó por haber compilado abundante literatura de los siglos XIX y XX, especialmente sobre geología, mineralogía, paleontología, ciencias naturales e historia de las ciencias. Sus publicaciones suman un centenar de trabajos especialmente en actas, boletines y misceláneas de la ANCC. Se lo propone en este trabajo como el padre de la bibliografía científica argentina.The German librarian Heinrich Max Sparn (1889-1966), as Enrique Sparn, made a very important contribution to Argentinean bibliography during his extensive work at Córdoba National Academy of Sciences (ANCC), from 1918 to 1954. Sparn had written around 100 papers that were published in bulletins, proceedings and special volumes of the ANCC related to geology, mineralogy, paleontology, natural sciences, and history of sciences. He made all kinds of compilations of scientific bibliography, especially of the19th and 20th centuries. Furthermore, Sparn carried out research related to bibliographic aspects as well as statistical, sociological, cultural and academic analysis. Sparn achieved the position of director of the ANCC Library and he was also Secretary and full member of this prestigious institution that was founded by President Domingo Faustino Sarmiento.     El ingeniero de minas sueco Carlos Federico Stubbe (1884-1946), tuvo una importante y a la vez desconocida actuación en nuestro país. Se presentan en este trabajo datos biográficos inéditos producto de una minuciosa búsqueda en archivos y viejos documentos mineros. Stubbe se radicó en la provincia de Tucumán y fue colaborador de Abel Peirano en la década de 1930. Era políglota. Tradujo del sueco el libro del conde Eric von Rosen, Un mundo que se va. Tradujo del alemán los principales trabajos de Federico Schikendantz. Realizó traducciones del inglés para los Cuadernos de Mineralogía y Geología que editaba entonces la Universidad Nacional de Tucumán. Publicó un valioso Vocabulario Minero Antiguo. Dejó inéditos dos libros sobre minería, mineralogía e historia de la minería que se conservan como manuscritos. Reunió una amplia bibliografía que forma el núcleo fundacional de la actual biblioteca del Instituto de Geología y Minería de la Universidad Nacional de Jujuy. En su homenaje se ha propuesto bautizar dicha biblioteca con el nombre de "Ing. Carlos F. Stubbe". Su Vocabulario Minero, la traducción del von Rosen y el hallazgo del yacimiento de fluorita Mina DAL en Catamarca, constituyen tres piedras angulares sobre las que se asienta la valiosa obra de este olvidado minero sueco.We studied here the life and works of Carlos F. Stubbe (1884-1946), a Swedish mining engineer with a very important and unknown activity in northern Argentina. This study includes information related to his biography and published and unpublished papers. This documentation was obtained in different libraries, mining files, documents, journal articles and so on. In the 1930 decade, Stubbe was working in Tucumán as a close collaborator of Dr. Abel Peirano. Stubbe was a polyglot, fluent in Swedish, English, Spanish, French, German and classic languages. He translated the famous work of Eric von Rosen from Swedish to Spanish. Also he translated from German the main papers of Federico Schikendantz; and from English papers related to sedimentology and paleontology. One of his most important works is the book entitled Vocabulario Minero Antiguo. Two books are yet unpublished and are related with mining and its history. He discovered the fluorite vein deposit in the Ancasti hill (Catamarca) that was mined during the 1930' and 1940'. The important library of Stubbe was donated to Jujuy Mining Institute. In his homage, we propose to name as "Eng. Carlos F. Stubbe" the library of Jujuy Mining Institute (IDGYM, UNJU).Facultad de Ciencias Naturales y Muse

    The genus Brachiaria comprises more than 100 species and is the single most important genus of forage grass in the tropics. Brachiaria brizantha , widely used in Brazilian pastures for beef and dairy production, is native to tropical Africa. As a subsidy to the breeding program underway in Brazil, cytological studies were employed to determine the chromosome number and to evaluate microsporogenesis in 46 accessions of this species available at Embrapa Beef Cattle (Brazil)

    Resumo: O plasma seminal tem sido recentemente objeto de estudo em várias linhas de pesquisa, em vista da descoberta de sua importância na viabilidade espermática. Relatos em várias espécies sugerem que no plasma são encontradas proteínas que podem influenciar a fertilidade do macho. Portanto, a identificação das bandas protéicas presentes no plasma seminal representa uma técnica que poderá avaliar a capacidade de fecundação dos animais, podendo ser considerados como marcadores de animais superiores. Logo, este trabalho teve como objetivo relacionar as proteínas identificadas no plasma seminal de ovinos da raça Morada Nova com a fertilidade dos mesmos. Foram avaliados quatro reprodutores ovinos da raça Morada Nova quanto a sua fertilidade no período seco do semiárido do Nordeste, onde se analisou as bandas protéicas através de eletroforese unidimensional (SDS PAGE) em géis de poliacrilamida a 12,5%. Observou-se a presença de uma banda de peso molecular 25 kDa presente apenas no animal que obteve o maior índice de fertilidade (100%), sendo essa, provavelmente, uma isoforma da prostaglandina D sintetase. As bandas de 33 e 41 kDa foram identificadas no animal que obteve o menor índice de fertilidade, devendo ser estudadas posteriormente. [SEMINAL PLASMA PROTEIN AND ITS RELATION TO FERTILITY OF MORADA NOVA?S SHEEP DURING RAINY SEASON]. Abstract: Seminal plasma has recently been studied in several lines of research, given the discovery of its importance in sperm viability. Reports suggest that in several species are found proteins in the plasma that may influence male fertility. Therefore, the identification of protein bands present in seminal plasma is a technique that can evaluate the fertilization capacity of the animals, they can be considered as markers of higher animals. Thus, this work was to correlate the proteins identified in seminal plasma of Morada Nova?s sheep with their fertility. Four Morada Nova?s male were evaluated for their fertility during the dry season in the Northeast?s semi-arid, where the protein bands was analyzed by one-dimensional electrophoresis (SDS PAGE) on polyacrylamide gels at 12,5%. We observed the presence of a band of molecular weight 25 kDa present only in the animal that had the highest fertility rate (100%), and this is probably an isoform of prostaglandin D synthetase. The bands of 33 and 41 kDa were identified in the animal that had the lowest fertility rate, and should be studied further

    Em ambientes de temperaturas elevadas, nas quais a produção de calor excede a dissipação pelos animais, todas as fontes que geram calor endógeno são inibidas, principalmente o consumo de alimento e o metabolismo basal e energético, enquanto a temperatura corporal e a frequência respiratória aumentam. Devido a isso, o estudo relacionado à capacidade dos animais resistirem as condições adversas é importante para a produção. Logo, objetivou-se com esse trabalho avaliar o efeito dos períodos seco e chuvoso com as avaliações clínicas dos ovinos da raça Morada Nova, sob as condições do semiárido cearense. Foram utilizados quatro machos da raça Morada Nova onde foi realizada avaliação clínica, semanalmente, pela manhã, no período de outubro/2008 a junho/2009. Não foi observando diferença estatística (P>0,05) para frequência cardíaca e movimentos ruminais, sendo a frequência respiratória e temperatura retal, estatisticamente diferente (P<0,05), nos dois períodos

    Lymphatic vessels in human adipose tissue

    Despite being considered present in most vascularised tissues, lymphatic vessels have not been properly shown in human adipose tissue (AT). Our goal in this study is to investigate an unanswered question in AT biology, regarding lymphatic network presence in tissue parenchyma. Using human subcutaneous (S-) and visceral (V-) AT samples with whole mount staining for lymphatic specific markers and three-dimensional imaging, we showed lymphatic capillaries and larger lymphatic vessels in the human VAT. Conversely, in the human SAT, microcirculatory lymphatic vascular structures were rarely detected and no initial lymphatics were found
