Measurements of the effect of collisions on transverse beam halo diffusion in the Tevatron and in the LHC
Beam-beam forces and collision optics can strongly affect beam lifetime,
dynamic aperture, and halo formation in particle colliders. Extensive
analytical and numerical simulations are carried out in the design and
operational stage of a machine to quantify these effects, but experimental data
is scarce. The technique of small-step collimator scans was applied to the
Fermilab Tevatron collider and to the CERN Large Hadron Collider to study the
effect of collisions on transverse beam halo dynamics. We describe the
technique and present a summary of the first results on the dependence of the
halo diffusion coefficient on betatron amplitude in the Tevatron and in the
LHC.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures. Submitted to the Proceedings of the ICFA

The Hybrid Integrated Circuit of the ALICE Inner Tracking System upgrade
The upgrade of the Inner Tracking System scheduled during the second long shutdown is an important milestone of the ALICE upgrade and it will provide a high improvement of its performances. In this contribution the smallest operator unit of the detector, the Hybrid Integrated Circuits, is presented
Specific Microbial Communities Are Selected in Minimally-Processed Fruit and Vegetables according to the Type of Product
Fruits and vegetables (F&V) products are recommended for the daily diet due to their low caloric content, high amount of vitamins, minerals and fiber. Furthermore, these foods are a source of various phytochemical compounds, such as polyphenols, flavonoids and sterols, exerting antioxidant activity. Despite the benefits derived from eating raw F&V, the quality and safety of these products may represent a source of concern, since they can be quickly spoiled and have a very short shelf-life. Moreover, they may be a vehicle of pathogenic microorganisms. This study aims to evaluate the bacterial and fungal populations in F&V products (i.e., iceberg lettuces, arugula, spinaches, fennels, tomatoes and pears) by using culture-dependent microbiological analysis and high-throughput sequencing (HTS), in order to decipher the microbial populations that characterize minimally-processed F&V. Our results show that F&V harbor diverse and product-specific bacterial and fungal communities, with vegetables leaf morphology and type of edible fraction of fruits exerting the highest influence. In addition, we observed that several alterative (e.g., Pseudomonas and Aspergillus) and potentially pathogenic taxa (such as Staphylococcus and Cladosporium) are present, thus emphasizing the need for novel product-specific strategies to control the microbial composition of F&V and extend their shelf-life
Beam halo dynamics and control with hollow electron beams
Experimental measurements of beam halo diffusion dynamics with collimator
scans are reviewed. The concept of halo control with a hollow electron beam
collimator, its demonstration at the Tevatron, and its possible applications at
the LHC are discussed.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, in Proceedings of the 52nd ICFA Advanced Beam

VST - VLT Survey Telescope Integration Status
The VLT Survey Telescope (VST) is a 2.6m aperture, wide field, UV to I
facility, to be installed at the European Southern Observatory (ESO) on the
Cerro Paranal Chile. VST was primarily intended to complement the observing
capabilities of VLT with wide-angle imaging for detecting and
pre-characterising sources for further observations with the VLT.Comment: 2 pages, 2 figures, conferenc
Analisis Kesesuaian Perairan Untuk Budidaya Ikan Kerapu Macan (Epinephelus Fuscoguttatu) Di Perairan Pulau Tegal Kecamatan Teluk Pandan Kabupaten Pesawaran
Tiger grouper is a marine aquaculture commodities that has good prospects to be developed. One of the areas that could potentially be used as a place of tiger grouper fish farming is the Tegal Island, Pesawaran. The purpose of this research was to analyze the level of water quality for fish farming tiger grouper (Epinephelus fuscoguttatus). This research was carried out in March-May 2017 descriptive analytic nature by doing the observations on the quality of waters which include physical and chemical parameters. The data that used in this research sourced from primary data about the suitability waters of the island while the secondary data is form in research location maps. There were 4 sampling stations which determined with global positioning system (GPS). The results showed that the water quality which is owned by the island's waters on station 1, 2, 3 and 4 were in the quite appropriate category for the cultivation of tiger grouper
