    Determinants of Cloud Computing Adoption: A Comparative Study

    Background: This study investigates the determinants that influence the user\u27s behavioral intention to use cloud computing in adopter and non-adopter firms. The research model is based on the theory of the Valence Framework of Behavioral Beliefs and Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). The present study examined the factors of perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, perceived ubiquity, perceived benefits, perceived costs and perceived risks in determining behavioral intention to use cloud computing for the adopter and non-adopter firms. Method: Data were collected using a questionnaire-based survey method. The valid responses received were 458. The sample size of adopters and non-adopter of cloud computing were 239 and 219, respectively. Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was used for data analysis. Data analysis was done separately for both samples of the adopter and non-adopter firms The results showed that, for adopters firms, perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, ubiquity, perceived benefits, and perceived risks were found to have a significant and direct influence on behavioral intention to use cloud computing. For non-adopters, perceived usefulness, perceived ubiquity, perceived benefits, perceived costs, and perceived risks were found to have a significant and direct influence on behavioral intention to use cloud computing. A comparison testing was also performed by examining the difference in the strength of path coefficients between adopters and non-adopters firms. Results: The findings showed that the impact of favorable factors of perceived ubiquity and perceived benefits were found relatively more significant in the case of adopter firms than negative factors. Likewise, the impact of negative factors of perceived risks and perceived costs were found relatively more significant in the case of non-adopter firms. Conclusions: The major contribution of this study is that it contributes to the understanding of progressive changes in the impact of behavioral beliefs and cognitive factors on behavioral intention to use cloud computing in adopter and non-adopter firms.     Are Word Embedding-based Features Useful for Sarcasm Detection?

    This paper makes a simple increment to state-of-the-art in sarcasm detection research. Existing approaches are unable to capture subtle forms of context incongruity which lies at the heart of sarcasm. We explore if prior work can be enhanced using semantic similarity/discordance between word embeddings. We augment word embedding-based features to four feature sets reported in the past. We also experiment with four types of word embeddings. We observe an improvement in sarcasm detection, irrespective of the word embedding used or the original feature set to which our features are augmented. For example, this augmentation results in an improvement in F-score of around 4\% for three out of these four feature sets, and a minor degradation in case of the fourth, when Word2Vec embeddings are used. Finally, a comparison of the four embeddings shows that Word2Vec and dependency weight-based features outperform LSA and GloVe, in terms of their benefit to sarcasm detection.Comment: The paper will be presented at Conference on Empirical Methods in Natural Language Processing (EMNLP) 2016 in November 2016. http://www.emnlp2016.net

    Quantum dot photonic crystal detectors

    In this paper we report the use of a photonic crystal resonant cavity to increase the quantum efficiency, detectivity (D*) and the background limited infrared photodetector (BLIP) temperature of a quantum dot detector. The photonic crystal is incorporated in InAs/InGaAs/GaAs dots-in-well (DWELL) detector using Electron beam lithography. From calibrated blackbody measurements, the conversion efficiency of the detector with the photonic crystal (DWELL-PC) is found to be 58.5% at -2.5 V while the control DWELL detectors have quantum efficiency of 7.6% at the same bias. We observed no significant reduction in the dark current of the photonic crystal devices compared to the normal structure. The generation-recombination limited D* at 77K with a 300K F1.7 background, is estimated to be 6 x 10^(10) cm Hz^(1/2)/W at -3V bias for the DWELL-PC which is a factor of 20 higher than that of the control sample. We also observed a 20% increase in the BLIP temperature for the DWELL-PCs

    Cardiovascular disease is the number one cause of death worldwide in which hypertension is responsible for an annual death of 7.1 million. There exist a causal relationship between low levels of occupational and/or leisure-time Physical Activity and an increased risk of cardiovascular disease. An additional possible reasons may be reduced sleep duration/quality and individuals knowledge of their disease and its treatment. Objective: This study was conducted to assess the prevalence of hypertension and risk factors associated, concentrating on literacy status, physical exercise, occupation and sleep pattern in rural population. Method: It was a questionnaire based study carried out in two phases with Blood Pressure measurement. Result: The study results showed low literacy rate and maximum prevalence of hypertension in farmers and house wives, with a lifestyle devoid of routine physical exercises and with advancing age.     Hierarchical classification for Multilingual Language Identification and Named Entity Recognition

    ABSTRACT This paper describes the approach for Subtask-1 of the FIRE-2015 Shared Task on Mixed Script Information Retrieval. The subtask involved multilingual language identification (including mixed words and anomalous foreign words), named entity recognition (NER) and subclassification. The proposed methodology starts with cleaning the data and then extracting structural and contextual features from the text for further processing. A subset of these features is selected (based on validation) for training supervised classifiers, separately for language identification and NER. Finally, they are applied hierarchically to annotate the entire text. The detected named entities are further subclassified by a novel unsupervised technique based on query refinement and keyword based scoring. The proposed approach on the testing dataset of the shared task showed promising results with a weighed F-measure of 0.8082. However, it is worth noting that the classifiers have been sub-optimal with respect to discriminating between certain linguistically similar languages (for e.g., Gujarati in Hindi and Gujarati pairs). The proposed approach is flexible and robust enough to handle additional languages for identification as well as anomalous foreign or extraneous words. The implementation of the approach has also been shared for the purpose of future research usage
