    Significative whitening action of five whitening toothpastes

    Una principal preocupaci贸n de los pacientes es mejorar la est茅tica dental mediante el blanqueamiento, por ello existen productos como pastas dentales blanqueadoras que intentan satisfacer esa necesidad. Para confirmar el efecto cl铆nico de blanqueamiento de cinco pastas dentales con esta propiedad en piezas dentales anteriores, se estructuraron cinco grupos experimentales para cada pasta, conformadas por 5 participantes por grupo, de 18 a 25 a帽os de edad y un grupo control. El color fue evaluado con un colorimetro de blanqueamiento VITA mediante observaci贸n directa y lectura final a las 7 semanas. Se calibr贸 la t茅cnica de cepillado y tipo de cepillo. Se observ贸 una variaci贸n leve del color para todas las pastas dentales tanto las experimentales como e1 control. Se encontr贸 diferencias significativas de cambio de color del pre y post evaluaci贸n en dos pastas dentales (Colgate Maxwhite y Crest Peroxide); con un p=0,039 para ambos. No se obtuvieron diferencias significativas para los colores finales entre las pastas dentales blanqueadoras y el control (p=0,549). Se concluye que las pastas dentales utilizadas produjeron cambio de coloraci贸n en los dientes analizados. Solo las pastas Colgate Maxwhite y Crest Peroxide produjeron efecto blanqueador significativo en la variaci贸n del color inicial y final. Sin embargo, no hubo un efecto blanqueador real entre pastas experimentales y el control.One of the main concerns of patients is to improve their dentaI aesthetics through teeth whitening, which is why there is a big quantity of products in the market that tries to satisfy this requirement with whitening toothpastes offer. To determinate whitening clinic effect of 5 toothpastes in dental teeth, they were arranged 5 treatment groups for each toothpaste conformed for 5 students and a control group. Subjects were betweeii 18 and 25 years. Colour was evaiuated with Vita Bleaching Shade Guide at the beginning and after 7 weeks through direct observation. Subjects were instructed to brush their teeth using the same toothbrush and the same technique too. There were few changes of colour for toothpaste used, in the experimental as the control group.It was found statistically significant changes of colour between pre and post test in 2 toothpastes (Colgate Max White and Crest Peroxide) (p=0.035). There was not obtained significant differences between whitening toothpaste and control group (p=0.549). As a conclusion, toothpastes used (5 whitening paste and one control paste) made changes on the teeth analyzed, only Colgate Max White y Crest Peroxide produce a significant whitening action on the colour variation. However there was not found a real whitening action behveen experimental and control toothpaste

    Oral health profile of patients diagnosed with myastenia gravis.

    Objetivo: Determinar el perfil de salud oral de los pacientes diagnosticados con miastenia gravis de la Asociaci贸n Miastenia Gravis Per煤 (Lima). Material y m茅todos: Se realiz贸 un muestreo no aleatorio con la participaci贸n de 75 pacientes con diagn贸stico de miastenia gravis, a los cuales se les evalu贸 la prevalencia y el promedio de caries seg煤n el 铆ndice CPOd, 铆ndice de higiene oral IHO, tipo de maloclusi贸n dentaria y simetr铆a facial. Resultados: Se encontr贸 una prevalencia de caries dental del 100%, con un promedio de 17,26 piezas dentales con experiencia de caries, y el 42,7% de los pacientes present贸 un nivel deficiente de higiene oral. Asimismo, se encontr贸 un 38,7% y un 24,0% con maloclusi贸n clase II y III, respectivamente, y el 74,7% present贸 asimetr铆a facial, siendo estas las caracter铆sticas principales de su perfil de salud oral. Conclusiones: Los pacientes diagnosticados con miastenia gravis de la Asociaci贸n Miastenia Gravis Per煤 (Lima) presentan un alto promedio de caries dental y la mayor铆a muestra maloclusiones II o III, un nivel de higiene dental deficiente y asimetr铆a facial.Objective: To determine the oral health profile of patients from the Association Myasthenia Gravis Peru, Lima diagnosed with myasthenia gravis. Materials and Methods: A total of 75 nonrandomized patients diagnosed with myasthenia gravis were included in the study. The prevalenceand average number of caries were evaluated according to the decayed/missing/filled teeth (DMFT) index, the simplified oral hygiene index (OHI), type of malocclusion and dental and facial symmetry. Results: The prevalence of dental caries was 100% , with an average of 17.26, and42.7% of the patients presenting poor oral hygiene. Likewise, 38.7% and 24% of the patients were found to have class II and III malocclusion, respectively, and 74.7% presented facial asymmetry as the main characteristics of their oral health profile. Conclusions: Patients from the Association Myasthenia Gravis Peru - Lima diagnosed with myasthenia gravis present a high average of dental caries, with most presenting grade II and III malocclusion, facial asymmetry and a poor level of dental hygiene
