Calcipotriol treatment of confluent and reticulated papillomatosis (Gougerot-Carteaud syndrome)

    No full text
Gougerot-Carteaud syndrome or confluent and reticulated papillomatosis (CRP), was first described by Gougerot and Carteaud as dermatosis. It is generally considered a rare condition. The eruption consists confluent, flat, brown papules localized primarily to the intermammary and interscapular regions with subsequent spread to the breast and abdomen; at the periphery, the papules spread out forming a pigmented reticulated pattern. At present, the aetiology of CRP remains unknown. The two prominent theories are an abnormal host response to fungi and a keratinization defect. Other hypothesis include photosensitivity, genetic factor, amylodosis cutis and endocrinopathy

Modeling and control of expressiveness in music performance

Expression is an important aspect of music performance. It is the added value of a performance and is pan of the reason that music is interesting to listen to and sounds alive. Understanding and modeling expressive content communication is important for many engineering applications in information technology. For example, in multimedia products, textual information is enriched by means of graphical and audio objects. In this paper, we present an original approach to modify the expressive content of a performance in a gradual way, both at the symbolic and signal levels. To this purpose, we discuss a model that applies a smooth morphing among performances with different expressive content, adapting the audio expressive character to the user\u2019s desires. Morphing can be realized with a wide range of graduality (from abrupt to very smooth), allowing adaptation of the system to different situations. The sound rendering is obtained by interfacing the expressiveness model with a dedicated postprocessing environment, which allows for the transformation of the event cues. The processing is based on the organized control of basic audio effects. Among the basic effects used, an original method for the spectral processing of audio is introduced

Expressive morphing for interactive performance of musical scores

    No full text
The fruition of musical score by means of multimedia systems requires a suitable model for automatic or interactive expressive music performance. The authors present a method for controlling the mutable musical expressiveness in an abstract way, not necessarily working directly on the acoustic parameters. Our approach integrates symbolic and audio processing in a real-time networked environment. We present a mapping strategy allowing one to control and vary the expressiveness in a coherent way, by means of an abstract "control space". All the variations computed by the model on the symbolic representation are successively managed by the signal processing sub-system which coherently transforms the sound by a combination of different audio effects. The signal processing engine works in real time to render the desired expressive audio variations. The model is used interactively in a Web-based environment. The user controls the expressive character of the performance by moving within an appropriate control space

Audio Morphing Different Expressive Intentions for Multimedia Systems

In multimedia products, graphical and audio objects enrich textual information. Combining these elements makes it easier for users to interact with the software. Recent studies have demonstrated that it\u2019s possible to communicate expressive content at an abstract level, which can change the interpretation of a musical piece. Our study of the expressive content of audio led us to develop a system for the auralization of multimedia objects for Web-based applications

Pyoderma gangrenosum and ulcerative colitis: a case report

Pyoderma gangrenosum is a skin disease of unknown etiology and often occurs in association with a systemic disease. Characteristic features of pyoderma gangrenosus are painful chronic ulcers. We describe the case of 77-year-old cardiopathic patient with a large ulcer of the lateral side of the right knee associated with ulcerative colitis. Another typical lesion was observed in the gluteal furrow. Furthermore on the pubis, at the side of a recent surgical scar an ulcerative lesion occurred. Laboratory investigations for the immunological asset revealed no significant alterations. Moreover the patient presented an active inflammatory bowel disease. This case is of interest for the synergism of the cutaneous lesions and the inflammatory bowel disease in this pathologic process and for the rapid and fatal course of the disease. Another interesting feature of this case is the pathergy which appared on a previous surgical scar of the pubis
