Bicategories for boundary conditions and for surface defects in 3-d TFT

We analyze topological boundary conditions and topological surface defects in three-dimensional topological field theories of Reshetikhin-Turaev type based on arbitrary modular tensor categories. Boundary conditions are described by central functors that lift to trivializations in the Witt group of modular tensor categories. The bicategory of boundary conditions can be described through the bicategory of module categories over any such trivialization. A similar description is obtained for topological surface defects. Using string diagrams for bicategories we also establish a precise relation between special symmetric Frobenius algebras and Wilson lines involving special defects. We compare our results with previous work of Kapustin-Saulina and of Kitaev-Kong on boundary conditions and surface defects in abelian Chern-Simons theories and in Turaev-Viro type TFTs, respectively.Comment: 34 pages, some figures. v2: references added. v3: typos corrected and biliography update

Multi-Phonon γ\gamma-Vibrational Bands and the Triaxial Projected Shell Model

We present a fully quantum-mechanical, microscopic, unified treatment of ground-state band and multi-phonon γ\gamma-vibrational bands using shell model diagonalization with the triaxial projected shell model. The results agree very well with data on the g- and γ\gamma-band spectra in 156170^{156-170}Er, as well as with recently measured 4+4^+ 2-phonon γ\gamma-bandhead energies in 166^{166}Er and 168^{168}Er. Multi-phonon γ\gamma-excitation energies are predicted.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, submitted to Phys. Lett.

COMPARATIVE EVALUATION OF THE ADEQUACY OF ANESTHESIA WITH XENON AND SEVOFLURANE IN CHILDREN SURGERY

Xenon have been used as an anesthetic in the Russian Federation for 11 years in anesthesia in adult patients. In April 2010, the permission of the Ministry of Health and Social Development for the clinical studies evaluating the efficacy and safety of medical xenon anesthesia in children based on the Institute of Emergency Children’s Surgery and Traumatology had been received. Xenon in pediatric anesthesiology is of a special interest because it has properties equivalent to an «ideal anesthetic». To assess its effectiveness in anesthesia in children 42 patients aged 1 to 18 years were included in the study. A comparative assessment of the adequacy of anesthesia with xenon and sevoflurane has been conducted. At different stages of the research in addition to clinical parameters the level of growth hormone and cortisol were measured. The study showed that anesthesia with xenon was different from sevoflurane by hemodynamic stability, and both have a high level of anesthetic anti-stress activity. Key words: anesthesia with xenon, stress hormones, anesthesia in children. (Pediatric pharmacology. — 2011; 8 (6): 77–81)

— 2011; 8 (6): 77–81)
