Effect of supply air temperature on conservation of energy in air conditioning of space

    Get PDF
In HVAC applications, huge amount of energy is utilized in fans and blowers to maintain the flow. In this paper energy savings associated with air distribution is discussed. In a most commonly used air distribution system, uniform thermal environment in the occupied space is established. An alternative to this method is the under floor air distribution system (UFAD) which is in its fantasy state. Thermal stratification can be established in this method due to the buoyancy flow of the air. In this paper assessment of the impact of temperature sensors in energy savings is done in UFAD system. It is observed that by the placement of temperature sensors in the occupied space, supply air temperature can be controlled while maintaining the comfort conditions. By optimal conditions of the temperature and volume flow, energy savings can be achieved due to reduction in energy requirements in refrigeration and ventilation. The comfort criteria of ASHRAE standard 55-92 is taken

Investigation of ion induced bending mechanism for nanostructures

    Get PDF
Ion induced bending is a promising controlled technique for manipulating nanoscale structures. However, the underlying mechanism of the process is not well understood. In this letter, we report a detailed study of the bending mechanism of Si nanowires (NWs) under Ga+ irradiation. The microstructural changes in the NW due to ion beam irradiation are studied and molecular dynamics simulations are used to explore the ion–NW interaction processes. The simulation results are compared with the microstructural studies of the NW. The investigations inform a generic understanding of the bending process in crystalline materials, which we suggest to be feasible as a versatile manipulation and integration technique in nanotechnology

    Gall bladder stones: surgical treatment

    Get PDF
Background: There is higher incidence of gall stones in Karnataka and more commonly seen in women aged between 25 to 55 years. In this study men are also encountered with gall stone. As all the gall stones cannot be removed by laparoscopic procedure, the complicated and adherent gall bladder with stones and where laparoscopic procedure is not available are removed by conventional open method of cholecystectomy and in this study open cholecystectomy procedure is dealt in detail. Methods: Open cholecystectomy through Right Kocher’s incision. Results: In this study of 10 cases with complications of gall stones dealt surgically by doing open cholecystectomy gave satisfactory postoperative results without much postoperative complications. Conclusions: Among 10 cases of open cholecystectomy 6 cases were done through duct first method and 4 cases were done through fundus 1st method, which gave good results and less postoperative complications

    Appendicitis in pregnancy: management

    Get PDF
Background:Acute appendicitis is an infrequent, yet one of the commonest surgical emergency encountered in pregnancy. Recorded incidence is about 1:1500 pregnancies. The aim of this study was to determine the risk factors associated with prenatal outcome in acute appendicitis during second and third trimester pregnancies. Open access surgery was done due to non-availability of laparoscopy. Methods:A total of 10 pregnant women who were diagnosed with acute appendicitis between Jan 2011 to Jan 2013 were presented and 7 of them operated by open access surgery. Results: Seven pregnant women who were diagnosed with acute appendicitis were operated upon during late pregnancy. The interval between symptom onset and surgery was the only predictive variable. A longer interval between symptom onset and surgery was associated with appendix perforation than with no appendix perforation. There was a significant difference in the rate of preterm labor (5.1% vs. 1.3%) and the rate of fetal mortality (25% vs. 1.7%) between patients with and without a perforated appendix. Conclusion:Delaying surgery correlates to more advanced disease with an increased risk of perforation. This contributes to an increased risk of further complications, including premature labor or abortion, and to higher maternal complication rates. Prompt diagnosis may improve the prenatal outcome.

Silver nanoparticles green synthesis: A mini review

Nanotechnology is a significant field of contemporary research dealing with design, synthesis, and manipulation of particle structures ranging from in the region of 1-100 nm. Nanoparticles (NPs) have broad choice of applications in areas such as fitness care, cosmetics, foodstuff and feed, environmental health, mechanics, optics, biomedical sciences, chemical industries, electronics, space industries, drug-gene delivery, energy science, optoelectronics, catalysis, single electron transistors, light emitters, nonlinear optical devices, and photo-electrochemical applications. Nano Biotechnology is a speedily mounting scientific field of producing and constructing devices, an important area of research in nano biotechnology is the synthesis of NPs with different chemical compositions, sizes and morphologies, and controlled dispersities. Silver nanoparticles (NPs) have been the subjects of researchers because of their unique properties (e.g., size and shape depending optical, antimicrobial, and electrical properties). A variety of preparation techniques have been reported for the synthesis of silver NPs; notable examples include, laser ablation, gamma irradiation, electron irradiation, chemical reduction, photochemical methods, microwave processing, and biological synthetic methods. This assessment presents a general idea of silver nanoparticle preparation. The aim of this analysis article is, therefore, to replicate on the existing state and potential prediction, especially the potentials and limitations of the above mentioned techniques for industries

Stability analysis of seed yield in coriander based on non-parametric methods

    Get PDF
The present study consisted of evaluation of 42 genotypes in two environments –with full irrigations (called irrigated) and with half the number of normal irrigations (called drought) over three years. ANOVA has indicated significant influence of environments on the expression of seed yield. All types of interactions with genotypes were significant indicating non-linear response of genotypes to environments. Stability analysis indicated significant differences among the ranks of stability of the genotypes. Significant positive correlations were noted among the different non parametric statistics and between corrected and uncorrected seed yield. Similarly there was good correspondence between the scatters of the genotypes obtained with Si(1), Si(2), Si(3) as well as between the scatters of AMMI (mean vs IPCA 1). &nbsp
