Expanding the scope of ligand substitution from [M(S2C2Ph2] (M = Ni2+, Pd2+, Pt2+) to afford new heteroleptic dithiolene complexes
The scope of direct substitution of the dithiolene ligand from [M(S2C2Ph2)2] [M = Ni2+ (1), Pd2+ (2), Pt2+ (3)] to produce heteroleptic species [M(S2C2Ph2)2Ln] (n = 1, 2) has been broadened to include isonitriles and dithiooxamides in addition to phosphines and diimines. Collective observations regarding ligands that cleanly produce [M(S2C2Ph2)Ln], do not react at all, or lead to ill-defined decomposition identify soft σ donors as the ligand type capable of dithiolene substitution. Substitution of MeNC from [Ni(S2C2Ph2)(CNMe)2] by L provides access to a variety of heteroleptic dithiolene complexes not accessible from 1. Substitution of a dithiolene ligand from 1 involves net redox disproportionation of the ligands from radical monoanions, –S•SC2Ph2, to enedithiolate and dithione, the latter of which is an enhanced leaving group that is subject to further irreversible reactions
Optical echo in photonic crystals
The dynamics of photonic wavepacket in the effective oscillator potential is
studied. The oscillator potential is constructed on a base of one dimensional
photonic crystal with a period of unit cell adiabatically varied in space. The
structure has a locally equidistant discrete spectrum. This leads to an echo
effect, i.e. the periodical reconstruction of the packet shape. The effect can
be observed in a nonlinear response of the system. Numerical estimations for
porous-silicon based structures are presented for femtosecond Ti:Sapphire laser
pump.Comment: 4 page
Inhibitors of the sodium-glucose transporter type 2 and new possibilities for managing vascular age in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus
The article discusses the pathophysiological mechanisms of the development of vascular aging as a combination of the influence on the body of genetic, environmental, regulatory, metabolic and other factors causing biochemical, enzymatic and cellular changes in the arterial vascular bed. The concept of “early vascular aging” and “healthy vascular aging” is defined depending on the ratio of the biological and chronological age of the vessels. The role of diabetes mellitus in increasing vascular stiffness, early vascular aging, as well as the progression of atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases and their complications is considered in detail. Approaches to multifactorial management of vascular age in patients with type 2 diabetes (lifestyle modification with strategy of aggressive treatment of modifiers of atherosclerosis, rejection of bad habits, adherence to dietary recommendations and the use of modern organo- and vasoprotective antidiabetic drugs) are revealed. The mechanism of realization of vasoprotective effects of inhibitors of sodium-glucose transporter-2 (iNGLT-2) is described in detail. The results of completed large random ized trials EMPA-REG Outcome and EMPA-REG BP of the most studied representative of the IGLT-2 group, empagliflozin, are presented. It has been shown that due to their glucose and natriuretic effects, the ability to reduce body weight and blood pressure, improve myocardial metabolism and bioenergetics, decrease the activity of the sympathetic nervous system, as well as positive effects on vascular stiffness, NGLT-2 inhibitors are the drugs of choice in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and cardiovascular diseases. This makes it possible to widely use this group of drugs for managing the vascular age of patients and represents a new opportunity in the prevention of vascular aging in T2DM

Early Alteration of Nucleocytoplasmic Traffic Induced by Some RNA Viruses
AbstractA HeLa cell line expressing the green fluorescent protein fused to the SV40 T-antigen nuclear localization signal (EGFP-NLS) was established. Fluorescence in these cells was confined to the nuclei. After poliovirus infection, cytoplasmic fluorescence in a proportion of cells could be detected by 1 h postinfection (p.i.) and in virtually all of the fluorescent cells by 2 h p.i. The relocation could be prevented by cycloheximide but not by inhibition of poliovirus replication by guanidine · HCl. Nuclear exit of a protein composed of three copies of GFP fused to the NLS also occurred upon poliovirus infection. A similar redistribution of EGFP-NLS took place upon infection with coxsakievirus B3 and, to a lesser extent, with vesicular stomatitis virus. The EGFP-NLS efflux was not due to the loss of NLS. Thus, some positive-strand and negative-strand RNA viruses trigger a rapid nonspecific relocation of nuclear proteins
Tunka-Rex: the Cost-Effective Radio Extension of the Tunka Air-Shower Observatory
Tunka-Rex is the radio extension of the Tunka cosmic-ray observatory in
Siberia close to Lake Baikal. Since October 2012 Tunka-Rex measures the radio
signal of air-showers in coincidence with the non-imaging air-Cherenkov array
Tunka-133. Furthermore, this year additional antennas will go into operation
triggered by the new scintillator array Tunka-Grande measuring the secondary
electrons and muons of air showers. Tunka-Rex is a demonstrator for how
economic an antenna array can be without losing significant performance: we
have decided for simple and robust SALLA antennas, and we share the existing
DAQ running in slave mode with the PMT detectors and the scintillators,
respectively. This means that Tunka-Rex is triggered externally, and does not
need its own infrastructure and DAQ for hybrid measurements. By this, the
performance and the added value of the supplementary radio measurements can be
studied, in particular, the precision for the reconstructed energy and the
shower maximum in the energy range of approximately eV. Here
we show first results on the energy reconstruction indicating that radio
measurements can compete with air-Cherenkov measurements in precision.
Moreover, we discuss future plans for Tunka-Rex.Comment: Proceeding of UHECR 2014, Springdale, Utah, USA, accepted by JPS
