Quantum Non-Demolition Test of Bipartite Complementarity

We present a quantum circuit that implements a non-demolition measurement of complementary single- and bi-partite properties of a two-qubit system: entanglement and single-partite visibility and predictability. The system must be in a pure state with real coefficients in the computational basis, which allows a direct operational interpretation of those properties. The circuit can be realized in many systems of interest to quantum information.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figure

Filaments in Galactic Winds Driven by Young Stellar Clusters

The starburst galaxy M82 shows a system of Hα\alpha-emitting filaments which extend to each side of the galactic disk. We model these filaments as the result of the interaction between the winds from a distribution of Super Stellar Clusters (SSCs). We first derive the condition necessary for producing a radiative interaction between the cluster winds (a condition which is met by the SSC distribution of M82). We then compute 3D simulations for SSC wind distributions which satisfy the condition for a radiative interaction, and also for distributions which do not satisfy this condition. We find that the highly radiative models, that result from the interaction of high metallicity cluster winds, produce a structure of Hα\alpha emitting filaments, which qualitatively agrees with the observations of the M82, while the non-radiative SSC wind interaction models do not produce filamentary structures. Therefore, our criterion for radiative interactions (which depends on the mass loss rate and the terminal velocity of the SSC winds, and the mean separation between SSCs) can be used to predict whether or not an observed galaxy should have associated Hα\alpha emitting filaments.Comment: 10 pages, 6 Figures. π0→γ∗γ\pi^0\to\gamma^*\gamma transition form factor within Light Front Quark Model

We study the transition form factor of π0→γ∗γ\pi^0\to\gamma^* \gamma as a function of the momentum transfer Q2Q^2 within the light-front quark model (LFQM). We compare our result with the experimental data by BaBar as well as other calculations based on the LFQM in the literature. We show that our predicted form factor fits well with the experimental data, particularly those at the large Q2Q^2 region.Comment: 11 pages, 4 figures, accepted for publication in PR

Brush Day & Night Phase III to Phase IV: ensuring that good oral health habits are sustainable

    Get PDF
Over the past 10 years, the FDI-Unilever Brush Day & Night partnership has significantly influenced the life of children worldwide through the implementation of school programmes for oral health education and prevention. This article reports the key facts and outcomes of Phase III of the partnership, and announces the launch of Phase IV. During Phase III, the expert advisors of the Brush Day & Night partnership conducted a longitudinal study to evaluate the impact of the '21 Day' programme in almost 8,000 children in 10 countries. Analysis revealed the effectiveness of the 21 Day programme in sustainably educating children to brush their teeth twice a day, with the greatest impact observed in children aged 7-9 years. With the launch of Phase IV, the Brush Day & Night partnership will continue to deliver its oral health school programme for 7-9 year-old children with a strengthened methodology, including randomized sampling and control groups. The scope of the evaluation will be broadened to include oral health-related quality of life indicators, and monitoring of the oral health knowledge of children's parents/carers.The work presented in this article was made possible through an unrestricted grant from Unilever Oral Care. Exactly Solvable Models of Interacting Spin-s Particles in one-dimension

    Get PDF
We consider the exact solution of a many-body problem of spin-ss particles interacting through an arbitrary U(1) invariant factorizable SS-matrix. The solution is based on a unified formulation of the quantum inverse scattering method for an arbitrary (2s+1)(2s+1)-dimensional monodromy matrix. The respective eigenstates are shown to be given in terms of 2s2s creation fields by a general new recurrence relation. This allows us to derive the spectrum and the respective Bethe ansatz equations.Comment: 10 pages, plain late

Antagonism of Serratia marcescens towards Phytophthora parasitica and its effects in promoting the growth of citrus.

Phytophthora parasitica causes serious widespread, and difficult-to-control root rots in warmer regions. This oomycete is one of the most important pathogen of citrus. This paper reports the biological control of the pathogen by a strain of Serratia marcescens R-35, isolated from citrus rhizosphere. In greenhouse trials, the bacterium suppressed more than 50% of the disease and promoted the plant growth
