Pediatric Rotavirus Gastroenteritis: A 2 year Analysis to Understand Current Prevalence in Mumbai
Many studies have established the high prevalence of paediatric Rotavirus gastroenteritis in India. The importance of rapid diagnosis of rotavirus infection has also been stressed upon, to initiate prompt rehydration therapy and prevent unnecessary use of antibiotics .We undertook a retrospective analysis of 327 paediatric stool specimens to understand the current prevalence and seasonal distribution of cases in Mumbai and its surrounding areas. Overall Rotavirus positivity rate was 37.9 %, with peak positivity in winter seasons. Infections were more common upto 2 years of age. Incidence of bacterial and parasitic coinfections was low
KNOWLEDGE ATTITUDE AND PRACTICE TOWARD COVID-19 DISEASE AMONG VARIOUS PROFESSIONALS: A CROSS-SECTIONAL ONLINE SURVEY
Objectives: This study aims to assess the knowledge, attitude, and practice associated with COVID-19 disease by undertaking a web-based online survey.
Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted all over India during the initial phase of COVID-19 hit between March 19, 2020, and March 29, 2020. Anyone aged 18 years and above using social media were included in the study. The questionnaire had a section on sociodemography which had questions regarding age, gender, marital status, and occupation. This was followed by questions on knowledge, attitude, and practice regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. The knowledge scores were summarized as median with interquartile range as the data followed a non-normal distribution. Attitude and practice questions were summarized individually as proportions and its association with socio-demographic variables was established using Chi-square test. The statistical significance was set at p<0.05.
Results: Occupational groups, marital status, and age group had significant difference between the groups with at least one of the practices with p<0.05.
Conclusion: Since the study provides enhancing effect of knowledge toward protective behaviors, the awareness raising activities and health education through mass media and campaigns, this should urgently be conducted focusing on effectiveness of hand washing, cough etiquette, social distancing, and responsibility to inform suspected cases to local health authority to prevent COVID-19
Sintering characteristics of manganese ore fines from Balaghat and Ukwa mines of Manganese Ore (India) Limited
Indian manganese ore reserves are depleting very fast Manganese ore (India) Ltd. realised that utilisation of Manganese ore fines will pave the way for conservation of lumpy high grade manganese ore.
Manganese ore fines generated at Balaghat and Ukwa mines of MOIL were subjected to sintering studies at the R&D Centre of Paramount Sinters Pvt. Ltd.
The studies indicated that fluxed sinter with very good strength and porosity could be produced. The sinters showed a high degree of reduction and even metalization was noticed. The chemical and physical characteristics indicated that sinters can be used in ferro manganese
furnaces.
Advantages of using sinter in the ferro alloy manufacture has been highlighted in this report. The authors have conc-luded that from the point of view of conservation and reduction of manufacturing cost, sintering has a vital role to play in ferro alloy industries
Conservation of high Phosphorous high Manganese ores by Sintering of Dephosphorised concentrate
The ores of manganese enjoy a high order of import-
ance since no quality steel can be produced without the addition of small amounts of manganese. In view of its economic importance it becomes imperative to take stock of the facts about this mineral in a comprehensive manner.
According to an IBM estimate, the recoverable rese-rves of manganese ore as on 1-1-1983 are 138.00 million tonnes comprising 18 million tonnes in measured category 32.00 million tonnes in indicated category and 88.00 million tonnes in inferred category
Evaluation of two mobile health apps in the context of smoking cessation: qualitative study of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) versus non-CBT-based digital solutions.
BACKGROUND: Mobile health (mHealth) apps can offer users numerous benefits, representing a feasible and acceptable means of administering health interventions such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). CBT is commonly used in the treatment of mental health conditions, where it has a strong evidence base, suggesting that it represents an effective method to elicit health behavior change. More importantly, CBT has proved to be effective in smoking cessation, in the context of smoking-related costs to the National Health Service (NHS) having been estimated to be as high as £2.6bn in 2015. Although the evidence base for computerized CBT in mental health is strong, there is limited literature on its use in smoking cessation. This, combined with the cost-effectiveness of mHealth interventions, advocates a need for research into the effectiveness of CBT-based smoking cessation apps. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was, first, to explore participants' perceptions of 2 mHealth apps, a CBT-based app, Quit Genius, and a non-CBT-based app, NHS Smokefree, over a variety of themes. Second, the study aimed to investigate the perceptions and health behavior of users of each app with respect to smoking cessation. METHODS: A qualitative short-term longitudinal study was conducted, using a sample of 29 smokers allocated to one of the 2 apps, Quit Genius or Smokefree. Each user underwent 2 one-to-one semistructured interviews, 1 week apart. Thematic analysis was carried out, and important themes were identified. Descriptive statistics regarding participants' perceptions and health behavior in relation to smoking cessation are also provided. RESULTS: The thematic analysis resulted in five higher themes and several subthemes. Participants were generally more positive about Quit Genius's features, as well as about its design and information engagement and quality. Quit Genius users reported increased motivation to quit smoking, as well as greater willingness to continue using their allocated app after 1 week. Moreover, these participants demonstrated preliminary changes in their smoking behavior, although this was in the context of our limited sample, not yet allowing for the finding to be generalizable. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings underscore the use of CBT in the context of mHealth apps as a feasible and potentially effective smoking cessation tool. mHealth apps must be well developed, preferably with an underlying behavioral change mechanism, to promote positive health behavior change. Digital CBT has the potential to become a powerful tool in overcoming current health care challenges. The present results should be replicated in a wider sample using the apps for a longer period so as to allow for generalizability. Further research is also needed to focus on the effect of greater personalization on behavioral change and on understanding the psychological barriers to the adoption of new mHealth solutions
Search for TeV -rays from H1426+428 during 2004-07 with the TACTIC telescope
The BL Lac object H1426+428 () is an established source of TeV
-rays and detections of these photons from this object also have
important implications for estimating the Extragalactic Background Light (EBL)
in addition to the understanding of the particle acceleration and -ray
production mechanisms in the AGN jets. We have observed this source for about
244h in 2004, 2006 and 2007 with the TACTIC -ray telescope located at
Mt. Abu, India. Detailed analysis of these data do not indicate the presence of
any statistically significant TeV -ray signal from the source
direction. Accordingly, we have placed an upper limit of
on the integrated
-ray flux at 3 significance level.Comment: 11 pages, 5 figures accepted for publication in Journal of Physics G:

Very High Energy gamma-ray observations of Mrk 501 using TACTIC imaging gamma-ray telescope during 2005-06
In this paper we report on the Markarian 501 results obtained during our TeV
-ray observations from March 11 to May 12, 2005 and February 28 to May
7, 2006 for 112.5 hours with the TACTIC -ray telescope. During 2005
observations for 45.7 hours, the source was found to be in a low state and we
have placed an upper limit of 4.62 10 photons cm
s at 3 level on the integrated TeV -ray flux above 1 TeV
from the source direction. However, during the 2006 observations for 66.8h,
detailed data analysis revealed the presence of a TeV -ray signal from
the source with a statistical significance of 7.5 above
1 TeV. The time averaged differential energy spectrum of the
source in the energy range 1-11 TeV is found to match well with the power law
function of the form () with and .Comment: 16 pages and 8 Figures Accepted for publication in the Journal of
