Central production of lepton-antilepton pairs and heavy quark composite states in hadron diffractive collisions at ultrahigh energies

Central production of lepton-lepton pairs (e+ee^+e^- and μ+μ\mu^+\mu^-) and heavy quark composite states (charmonia and bottomonia) in diffractive proton collisions (proton momenta transferred qm/lns{|\bf q_\perp}|\sim m/\ln s) are studied at ultrahigh energies (lns>>1\ln{s}>>1), where σtot(pp±)lnNs\sigma_{tot}(pp^\pm)\sim\ln^N s with 1\la N\la 2. The pp±pp^\pm-rescattering corrections, which are not small, are calculated in terms of the KK-matrix approach modified for ultrahigh energies. Two versions of hadron interactions are considered in detail: the growth (i) σtot(pp±)ln2s\sigma_{tot}(pp^\pm)\sim\ln^2 s, σinel(pp±)ln2s\sigma_{inel}(pp^\pm)\sim\ln^2 s within the black disk mode and (ii) σtot(pp±)ln2s\sigma_{tot}(pp^\pm)\sim\ln^2 s, σinel(pp±)lns\sigma_{inel}(pp^\pm)\sim\ln s within the resonant disk mode. The energy behavior of the diffractive production processes differs strongly for these modes, thus giving a possibility to distinguish between the versions of the ultrahigh energy interactions.Comment: 10 pages. arXiv admin note: substantial text overlap with arXiv:1408.069

Prospects of detecting massive isosinglet neutrino at LHC in the CMS detector

    Get PDF
A possibility to search for a heavy isosinglet (sterile) neutrino using its decay mode νsl±+2jets\nu_s \to l^{\pm} + 2 jets in the SS - channel production ppW+Xl±νs+Xpp \to W^* + X \to l^{\pm}\nu_s + X in the CMS experiment is studied. The only assumption about the heavy neutrino is its nonzero mixing with νe\nu_e or νμ\nu_{\mu}. The corresponding CMS discovery potential expressed in terms of the heavy neutrino mass and the mixing parameter between the heavy and light neutrino is determined. It is shown that the heavy neutrino with a mass up to 800 GeVGeV could be detected in CMS. We also investigate the production of the heavy neutrino NlN_l mixed with νe\nu_e and/or νμ\nu_{\mu} in the SUC(3)SUL(2)SUR(2)U(1)SU_C(3) \otimes SU_L(2) \otimes SU_R(2)\otimes U(1) model through the reaction ppWR+Xl±Nl+Xpp \to W_R + X \to l^{\pm}N_l + X with the same heavy neutrino decay channel as above. We find that for MWR<3TeVM_{W_R} < 3 TeV it is possible to discover the heavy neutrino with a mass up to 0.75MWR0.75 \cdot M_{W_R}.Comment: 14 pages, 13 figure

Zeros of the Partition Function for Higher--Spin 2D Ising Models

    Get PDF
We present calculations of the complex-temperature zeros of the partition functions for 2D Ising models on the square lattice with spin s=1s=1, 3/2, and 2. These give insight into complex-temperature phase diagrams of these models in the thermodynamic limit. Support is adduced for a conjecture that all divergences of the magnetisation occur at endpoints of arcs of zeros protruding into the FM phase. We conjecture that there are 4[s2]24[s^2]-2 such arcs for s1s \ge 1, where [x][x] denotes the integral part of xx.Comment: 8 pages, latex, 3 uuencoded figure
