Physical Principles of the Amplification of Electromagnetic Radiation Due to Negative Electron Masses in a Semiconductor Superlattice

    Get PDF
In a superlattice placed in crossed electric and magnetic fields, under certain conditions, the inversion of electron population can appear at which the average energy of electrons is above the middle of the miniband and the effective mass of the electron is negative. This is the implementation of the negative effective mass amplifier and generator (NEMAG) in the superlattice. It can result in the amplification and generation of terahertz radiation even in the absence of negative differential conductivity.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure

Accuracy of B(E2; 0+ -> 2+) transition rates from intermediate-energy Coulomb excitation experiments

The method of intermediate-energy Coulomb excitation has been widely used to determine absolute B(E2; 0+ -> 2+) quadrupole excitation strengths in exotic nuclei with even numbers of protons and neutrons. Transition rates measured with intermediate-energy Coulomb excitation are compared to their respective adopted values and for the example of 26Mg to the B(E2; 0+ -> 2+) values obtained with a variety of standard methods. Intermediate-energy Coulomb excitation is found to have an accuracy comparable to those of long-established experimental techniques.Comment: to be published in Phys. Rev.

Specific Features and Problems of Development of the Modern Siberian Cities' Regional Art Market: Case Study of Krasnoyarsk City

    Get PDF
The art market of the Siberian regions is in its nascent stage and in search of its own identity, its own unique regional features capable of making art goods more competitive. Art salons and galleries as main art business centers play a very important role in adjusting the mechanisms of intra-institutional positive dynamics as they specify the way of development of the region's fine art, cooperate with leading artists, serve as a communication means between the artist and the consumer, and set prices in the art sphere. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the dynamics of development of Krasnoyarsk's art market in the context of development of the All-Russian fine art market, to identify its strengths and weaknesses, and to determine key factors that positively or negatively affect this market's competitiveness. The paper presents the whole situation in the country's art market and analyzes statistical data about Krasnoyarsk's art market. It shows existing conditions and characteristics that identify the regional art market's specific features and reveals main problems associated with this market's development. Methods used to study are analysis of economic statistics, study of marketing strategies of leading art galleries and salons, interviews with sellers, managers and potential buyers. The conclusions of this study can help to create a rational strategy for positive development of the Siberian cities' art market and can be used for identifying the prospects of development of the regional fine art market in the future. Study of the B +→ J / ψ Λ ¯ p decay in proton-proton collisions at √s = 8 TeV

A study of the B +→ J / ψ Λ ¯ p decay using proton-proton collision data collected at s = 8 TeV by the CMS experiment at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.6 fb−1, is presented. The ratio of branching fractions B(B+→J/ψΛ¯p)/B(B+→J/ψK∗(892)+) is measured to be (1.054 ± 0.057(stat) ± 0.035(syst) ± 0.011(B))%, where the last uncertainty reflects the uncertainties in the world-average branching fractions of Λ ¯ and K*(892) + decays to reconstructed final states. The invariant mass distributions of the J / ψ Λ ¯ , J/ψp, and Λ ¯ p systems produced in the B +→ J / ψ Λ¯ p decay are investigated and found to be inconsistent with the pure phase space hypothesis. The analysis is extended by using a model-independent angular amplitude analysis, which shows that the observed invariant mass distributions are consistent with the contributions from excited kaons decaying to the Λ ¯ p system. Search for new neutral Higgs bosons through the H → ZA→ ℓ+ℓ−b b ¯ process in pp collisions at √s = 13 TeV

This paper reports on a search for an extension to the scalar sector of the standard model, where a new CP-even (odd) boson decays to a Z boson and a lighter CP-odd (even) boson, and the latter further decays to a b quark pair. The Z boson is reconstructed via its decays to electron or muon pairs. The analysed data were recorded in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy s = 13 TeV, collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC during 2016, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1. Data and predictions from the standard model are in agreement within the uncertainties. Upper limits at 95% confidence level are set on the production cross section times branching fraction, with masses of the new bosons up to 1000 GeV. The results are interpreted in the context of the two-Higgs-doublet model. [Figure not available: see fulltext.]
