IP routing lookup: hardware and software approach

The work presented in this thesis is motivated by the dual goal of developing a scalable and efficient approach for IP lookup using both hardware and software approach. The work involved designing algorithms and techniques to increase the capacity and flexibility of the Internet. The Internet is comprised of routers that forward the Internet packets to the destination address and the physical links that transfer data from one router to another. The optical technologies have improved significantly over the years and hence the data link capacities have increased. However, the packet forwarding rates at the router have failed to keep up with the link capacities. Every router performs a packet-forwarding decision on the incoming packet to determine the packet??s next-hop router. This is achieved by looking up the destination address of the incoming packet in the forwarding table. Besides increased inter-packet arrival rates, the increasing routing table sizes and complexity of forwarding algorithms have made routers a bottleneck in the packet transmission across the Internet. A number of solutions have been proposed that have addressed this problem. The solutions have been categorized into hardware and software solutions. Various lookup algorithms have been proposed to tackle this problem using software approaches. These approaches have proved more scalable and practicable. However, they don??t seem to be able to catch up with the link rates. The first part of my thesis discusses one such software solution for routing lookup. The hardware approaches today have been able to match up with the link speeds. However, these solutions are unable to keep up with the increasing number of routing table entries and the power consumed. The second part of my thesis describes a hardware-based solution that provides a bound on the power consumption and reduces the number of entries required to be stored in the routing table

With the increasing demand for fish as human food, aquaculture both in freshwater and salt water is rapidly developing over the world. In the developing countries, fishes are being raised as food. In many countries fish farming is a very important economic activity. The most recent branch, mariculture, has shown advances in raising fishes in brackish, estuarine and bay waters, in which marine, anadromous and catadromous fishes have successfully been grown and maintained

    Plant bioelectropotential and its origin

A d.c. electric potential termed as plant bioelectropotential (BEPI is generated in a plant body. It is monitored by a simple circuit comprising of a calomel reference electrode in the root vicinity, a thin platinum electrode inserted into any part of a plant and a high impedance (N-- 10124 voltmeter. Bioelectropotential measurements have been made under varying conditions of respiration of germinating seeds and of photosynthetic activity of Hydrilla Verticillata. On the basis of the experimental evidences it has been concluded that the plant BEP originates as a result of various redox couples of the electron transport processes of the respiration and photosynthesis

Finite element simulation and regression modeling of machining attributes on turning AISI 304 stainless steel

To-date, the usage of finite element analysis (FEA) in the area of machining operations has demonstrated to be efficient to investigate the machining processes. The simulated results have been used by tool makers and researchers to optimize the process parameters. As a 3D simulation normally would require more computational time, 2D simulations have been popular choices. In the present article, a Finite Element Model (FEM) using DEFORM 3D is presented, which was used to predict the cutting force, temperature at the insert edge, effective stress during turning of AISI 304 stainless steel. The simulated results were compared with the experimental results. The shear friction factor of 0.6 was found to be best, with strong agreement between the simulated and experimental values. As the cutting speed increased from 125 m/min to 200 m/min, a maximum value of 750 MPa stress as well as a temperature generation of 650 °C at the insert edge have been observed at rather higher feed rate and perhaps a mid level of depth of cut. Furthermore, the Response Surface Methodology (RSM) model is developed to predict the cutting force and temperature at the insert edge
