Environmental stress trigger a variety of rice plant response, ranging from alters seed set, grain yield and grain quality during flowering and grain filling stage.  Efforts are required to improve our understanding of the impact of heat stress on rice production, which are essential strategies in rice cultivation. This article investigated the seed set, yield components and grain yield of Vietnamese rice cultivars (Indica germplasm) under high temperature environment during the flowering and grain filling stage. Six rice cultivars, including popular cultivars and new cultivars of Cuu Long Delta Rice Research Institute, and one popular extraneous cultivar with differences in maturing time, were grown in pots at high temperature (HT) and natural temperature condition as control (CT). All rice cultivars were subjected to the high temperature starting from the heading stage to the harvest maturity, applied by greenhouse effect. The greenhouse has about 25 cm window opening on 3 sides for air ventilation. The seed set rate of the heat-sensitive rice genotypes decreased significantly under HT, leading to a significant reduction in grain yield. The lowest seed set was recorded in “OM4900” (44.3%) and “OM18” (39.9%) under high temperature environment. The lower yield in all rice cultivars at an elevated temperature resulted in a dramatic decrease of filled grains and contributed to a loss of 1000-grain weight. ‘“OM892” is a potential rice cultivar for heat tolerant breeding program due to the seed set percentage was above 80% in both HT and CT conditions. High temperature during the grain filling stage resulted in a decreased amylose and increased chalkiness for all OM cultivars

Abstract Objective To investigate the anti-proliferative effects of 20-hydroxyecdysone isolated from the bark of Dacrycarpus imbricatus (Blume) de Laub. Methods Column chromatography was used for isolation of compounds from plant material. The structure of the isolated compound was identified by mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance techniques, including HSQC, HMBC, NOE-difference experiments. The isolated compound was tested for its anti-proliferative activity in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and OCI-AML cells. Results Compound 1 was isolated from the ethyl acetate fraction of Dacrycarpus imbricatus barks by column chromatography. Its chemical structure was identified as 20-hydroxyecdysone (20HE), a cholestane-type ecdysteroid, by a combination of mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometric analyses. Our goal was to test the anti-proliferative activity of 20HE using the OCI-AML cell line. 20HE significantly decreased OCI cell number at a concentration of 1 mg/mL, whereas lower concentrations were ineffective. Moreover, this decrease was due to partial blockage of the G 1 /S phase of the cell cycle, with a reduction of cells in the G 2 M phase, not due to increased apoptosis. Conclusions This indicates that 20HE significantly decreases the number of cells in the G 1 /S phase of the cell cycle in human AML cells. This is the first time that the anti-proliferative activity of 20HE against a human tumor cell line has been reported

By applying an improved  method of the Earth's crust classification, we develop an algorithm and build an earthquake prediction program using a combination of geological, geophysical, geomorphological and seismic data. This program includes a system of multiple windows with different functions, which can divide fault zones into the different segments by the maximum magnitude values Mmax. Using the constructed program, we carried out an earthquake prediction test for the Northwest Vietnam by a combination of geological, geophysical, geomorphological and seismic data. According to the received results, zoning maps of maximum earthquake prediction for the researched region has been established. The results show that the   areas, capable of generating earthquakes with Mmax = 6.5 - 6.8  are primarily concentrated along some major fault zones such as Lai Chau-Dien Bien, Son La, Song Ma, Song Da, Tuan Giao or near the intersection of these fault zones. The received results show a good accordance with the actual seismotectonic characteristics of the researched region.References Bui Van Duan, Nguyen Cong Thang, Nguyen Van Vuong, Pham Dinh Nguyen, 2013. Aquaculture and capture fisheries in Vietnam have been increasing fast in the last decade, especially aquaculture growth rate is 12% for the 1999 – 2003 period, contributing a significant part into the hunger eradication and poverty reduction1. Vietnam is to be ranked into one of the countries potential to produce the aquatic economic in the world, and the fact is that, after 40 years of establishing, the fisheries sector has made remarkable contributions to the country. By the list, at the moment the aquatic products make up about 4 - 5% of GDP and create job opportunities for over 3 three million employees (VASEP, 2004), in which the largest contribution is from shrimp farming. INVESTIGATING THE ANTI-INFLAMMATORY ACTIVITY OF AN ETHANOLIC EXTRACT FROM ARTOCARPUS TONKINENSIS LEAVES USING A COLLAGEN ANTIBODY-INDUCED ARTHRITIC MOUSE MODEL

The obtained results here demonstrate that the 70% ethanolic leaf extract of A. tonkinensis (AT2), traditionally used in Vietnamese folk medicine for treating arthritic symtoms, has beneficial effects on pro-inflammatory cytokine inhibition and in an experimental arthritic mouse model. LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 macrophages treated with AT2 showed a significant decrease in the production of IL-6 and TNFa at concentrations of 12.5, 25 and 50 ”g/mL (P0.05), indicating its potential anti-inflammatory properties. Treatment of CAIA mice with AT2 also led to diminish the incidence of arthritis at doses of 200 and 300 mg/kg body weight

Social and Labor Adaptation of People with Disabilities by Means of Production of Items of Folk Art: Evidence from Sociological Study

    Get PDF
The article looks at the issues of integration of people with disabilities into a contemporary Russian society by means of utilization of their labor potential in the production of items of folk art with consideration of experience of this kind of activities in Vietnam. The relevance of this theme arises due to the lack of a much needed attention on the part of the government in formation of socially adequate and non-discriminatory conditions for life and activities of people with disabilities, which would allow them to overcome an image of a passive and dependent disability in the mass consciousness and disabled peoples' own self-consciousness. The most important condition of a successful integration of people with disabilities is their professional self-determination and employment. The study shows that people with disabilities face significant difficulties in identification of their place in life from the perspective of their professional employment. A priority area of employment of people with disabilities is their involvement in decorative arts, which encourages their full integration in a society, as most often they cannot adapt to the usual conditions of life and cannot compete on the labor market as equals with people without disabilities. Considering the fact that labor rehabilitation of people with disabilities by means of their involvement with decorative arts is not sufficiently spread in Russia there is a need to actively spread the media message about the advances of the people with disabilities in Vietnam in the sphere of production of items in decorative arts.
