x509-free access to WLCG resources

Access to WLCG resources is authenticated using an x509 and PKI infrastructure. Even though HEP users have always been exposed to certificates directly, the development of modern Web Applications by the LHC experiments calls for simplified authentication processes keeping the underlying software unmodified. In this work we will show a solution with the goal of providing access to WLCG resources using the user's home organisations credentials, without the need for user-acquired x509 certificates. In particular, we focus on identity providers within eduGAIN, which interconnects research and education organisations worldwide, and enables the trustworthy exchange of identity-related information. eduGAIN has been integrated at CERN in the SSO infrastructure so that users can authenticate without the need of a CERN account. This solution achieves x509-free access to Grid resources with the help of two services: STS and an online CA. The STS (Security Token Service) allows credential translation from the SAML2 format used by Identity Federations to the VOMS-enabled x509 used by most of the Grid. The IOTA CA (Identifier-Only Trust Assurance Certification Authority) is responsible for the automatic issuing of short-lived x509 certificates. The IOTA CA deployed at CERN has been accepted by EUGridPMA as the CERN LCG IOTA CA, included in the IGTF trust anchor distribution and installed by the sites in WLCG. We will also describe the first pilot projects which are integrating the solution.Peer reviewe

Research aim is presentation of methodological approaches system for noninfectious pathology risk analysis tested in Perm region. Noninfectious pathology risk analysis in Perm region includes non-cancerogenic risk quantitative assessment based on epidemiological studies, choice of effective noninfectious pathology risk reduction strategy by means of Rospotrebnadzor and primary health care. Strategy search contains noninfectious pathology preventability estimation by comparative and expert assessment resulted to health changes reserves identification; its manageability estimation by risk factors analysis, management parameters, simulation modeling, optimization goals decision, strategy and management quality assessment Estimation of Perm region Rospotrebnadzor management activity revealed that risk indicators applying and economical assessment of risk unit value allow predicting management effects and estimating its efficiency using life expectancy increase criterion.

Identifying the determinants of premature mortality in Russia: overcoming a methodological challenge

Abstract

Background

It is thought that excessive alcohol consumption is related to the high mortality among working age men in Russia. Moreover it has been suggested that alcohol is a key proximate driver of the very sharp fluctuations in mortality seen in this group since the mid-1980s. Designing an individual-level study suitable to address the potential acute effects of alcohol consumption on mortality in Russia has posed a challenge to epidemiologists, especially because of the need to identify factors that could underlie the rapid changes up and down in mortality rates that have been such a distinctive feature of the Russian mortality crisis. In order to address this study question which focuses on exposures acting shortly before sudden death, a cohort would be unfeasibly large and would suffer from recruitment bias.

Methods

Although the situation in Russia is unusual, with a very high death rate characterised by many sudden and apparently unexpected deaths in young men, the methodological problem is common to research on any cause of death where many deaths are sudden.

Results

We describe the development of an innovative approach that has overcome some of these challenges: a case-control study employing proxy informants and external data sources to collect information about proximate determinants of mortality.

Conclusion

This offers a set of principles that can be adopted by epidemiologists studying sudden and unexpected deaths in other settings.</p

A metagenomic analysis of the endophytic microflora of Vaccinium corymbosum L. and Vaccinium myrtillus L. root systems was carried out. Two dominant species of micromycetes forming ericoid mycorrhiza were identified - Phialocephala fortinii C. J. K. Wang & H. E. Wilcox and Pezicula sp. Tul. & C. Tul. Pure cultures of mycorrhizal fungi were prepared, a comprehensive morphological and genetic assay of the strains was carried out. Based on the results of genetic-taxonomic analysis, the assumption of the polyphyletic origin of species belonging to Phialocephala and Pezicula is confirmed.

The sequencing and annotation of the curly birch chloroplast genome were carried out. A high level of similarity of the structural and functional organization of cpDNA among the species of the Betulaceae family was revealed. A set of primers was developed to assess the level of expression of EST markers of the curly birch cpDNA by the real time PCR method.

Abstract. The publication focuses on the principle algorithm and methods to assess consumer products safety in terms of public health. The methodology is based on a standard risk assessment procedure including the following stages: hazard identification, exposure assessment, dose-response assessment, and risk characterization. The key feature of the developed approaches is the use of mathematical modeling to describe risk development based on the adjustment of paired 'factor (exposure) -response" relationships obtained in the course of epidemiological studies for the purposes of risk escalation assessment. A dynamic model of functional disorders associated with product safety is a mathematical description of the process of change in the state of health of consumers under long-term exposure to product-related hazardous factors combined with natural ageing. The publication describes approaches to the assessment of cumulative risk associated with various product factors, suggests risk structuring techniques and an internationally harmonized risk assessment scale. The methodology is universal, aimed for a wide range of objectives, and serves the purposes of the Customs Union. The methodology was tested when validating food product safety criteria in assessing the risks associated with such long-use products as furniture, construction and finishing materials
