An Infrared Spectroscopic Study of the Impairment of the Flame Retardant Finish during Laundering

difference IR spectroscopic study of flame retardant (FR) fabrics aimed at
assessing the relative importance of various factors involved in the impairment
and loss of flame retardance of these fabrics during laundering are presented.
The study reveals loss in the intensity of several absorption bands in the
phosphoryl region as a result of laundering<span style="font-size:11.0pt;

a change in P – O bond order due to complex formation between the metal cations
present in wash water and the phosphate group of the FR finish. The effect is reversible,
as both the initial IR spectrum and FR ability can be restored by displacement
