Quantum state transfer in optomechanical arrays
Quantum state transfer between distant nodes is at the heart of quantum processing and quantum networking. Stimulated by this, we propose a scheme where one can achieve quantum state transfer with a high fidelity between sites in a cavity quantum optomechanical network. In our lattice, each individual site is composed of a localized mechanical mode which interacts with a laser-driven cavity mode via radiation pressure, while photons hop between neighboring sites. After diagonalization of the Hamiltonian of each cell, we show that the system can be reduced to an effective Hamiltonian of two decoupled bosonic chains, and therefore we can apply the well-known results in quantum state transfer together with an additional condition on the transfer times. In fact, we show that our transfer protocol works for any arbitrary joint quantum state of a mechanical and an optical mode. Finally, in order to analyze a more realistic scenario we take into account the effects of independent thermal reservoirs for each site. By solving the standard master equation within the Born-Markov approximation, we reassure both the effective model and the feasibility of our protocol
Energy of general 4-dimensional stationary axisymmetric spacetime in the teleparallel geometry
The field equation with the cosmological constant term is derived and the
energy of the general 4-dimensional stationary axisymmetric spacetime is
studied in the context of the hamiltonian formulation of the teleparallel
equivalent of general relativity (TEGR). We find that, by means of the integral
form of the constraints equations of the formalism naturally without any
restriction on the metric parameters, the energy for the asymptotically flat/de
Sitter/Anti-de Sitter stationary spacetimes in the Boyer-Lindquist coordinate
can be expressed as . It is surprised to learn that the
energy expression is relevant to the metric components ,
and only. As examples, by using this formula
we calculate the energies of the Kerr-Newman (KN), Kerr-Newman Anti-de Sitter
(KN-AdS), Kaluza-Klein, and Cveti\v{c}-Youm spacetimes.Comment: 12 page
Griffiths phase of the Kondo insulator fixed point
Heavy fermion compounds have long been identified as systems which are
extremely sensitive to the presence of impurities and other imperfections. In
recent years, both experimental and theoretical work has demonstrated that such
disorder can lead to unusual, non-Fermi liquid behavior for most physical
quantities. In this paper, we show that this anomalous sensitivity to disorder,
as well as the resulting Griffiths phase behavior, directly follow from the
proximity of metallic heavy fermion systems to the Kondo insulator fixed point.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures; Proceedings of the SCES, August 2000, to appear

Use of agro-industry residues as substrate for the production of Euterpe precatoria seedlings.
The availability of single assai palm (Euterpe precatoria) seedlings with good quality is a fundamental requirement to expand the cultivation of the species. This study aimed to assess the use of fruit agro-industry residues as substrate for producing single assai seedlings. The experiment was carried out under nursery conditions, in a completely randomized design, with four replications and eight plants per plot. Fifteen treatments were evaluated: a commercial substrate, four dry and crushed agro-industrial residues (Brazil nut shell, acerola pit, assai pit and cupuassu peel) and ten combinations of these materials in the proportion of 1:1. The following variables were also measured: shoot height; stem diameter; number of leaves; shoot, root and total dry mass; and Dickson Quality Index score. The substrate formulated with Brazil nut shell + acerola pit stood out for promoting a higher growth and dry biomass, resulting in seedlings with a better quality. The pure assai pit residue was not efficient for producing seedlings, but it showed a good potential when mixed in equal proportion with other materials (e.g. Brazil nut shell and cupuassu peel).
