Considerando-se a hipĂłtese de que a patogĂŞnese da CS Ă© mediada por anticorpos autorreativos, a persistĂŞncia da coreia está provavelmente associada a nĂ­veis aumentados de linfĂłcitos B1 e outros subtipos de linfĂłcitos. No presente trabalho, foram avaliados subtipos de linfĂłcitos B e T em pacientes com CS em remissĂŁo (CSR) e persistente (CSP), por citometria de fluxo. Nossos resultados demonstraram que nĂŁo há diferença na frequĂŞncia das subpopulações de linfĂłcitos T e B circulantes e no perfil de ativação e estado funcional dessas cĂ©lulas. Esses resultados enfraquecem a hipĂłtese de que a CSP seja uma condição imune sustentada mediada por cĂ©lulas citotĂłxicas. SĂŁo necessários estudos que investiguem mecanismos alternativos que expliquem a patogĂŞnese da CSP.The mechanisms involved in the symptoms of Sydenham’s chorea (SC) remain obscure.
