The aim of the study is to evaluate the possibilities of immunohistochemical revealing of colorectal cancer micro-metastases in liver and to determine their prognostic significance. Material et metods. The material of the research was fragments of liver tissue with metastases of 36 patients with colorectal cancer who had undergone resection of liver (main group), and randomly chosen fragments of liver tissue without macro metastases of 18 patients with colorectal cancer who had died in early postoperative period. 5-6 fragments of the liver tissue taken from the margins of the largest macro metastasis with the interval 1-2 cm were investigated in each case. The detection of micro-metastases on the paraffin sections with the thickness of 4 microns was carried out with the use of antibodies to cytoceratin-20. The results showed that micro-metastases in liver in the main group had been found in 75,9%, in the comparative group β€” just in one observation with accidentally revealed macro metastasis. Correlative analysis showed the direct definite link between the appearance of micro-metastases and the presence of macro metastases in liver. The significance of multimicrometastatic spreading for the development of intrahepatic progression and the worsening of the long term prognosis of the patients with colorectal cancer were noted. Conclusion: the possibility of use cytoceratin-20 for revealing micro-metastases in liver

The paper presents the results of an investigation of the linewidths and chemical shifts of, the NMR of protons of water molecules and some magnetic nuclei of counterions (Li+, F-, NH4+, H+) in aqueous dispersions of a number of ion-exchange resins and alumosilicates in solutions of high-molecular compounds. The spectra have been recorded by the high-resolution NMR type INM-4H-100 spectrometer with a 100 MHz work frequency for protons and 40 MHz for 7Li in a wide temperature range from 173 K to 373 K. The phenomenon that the shift of water Β·signal versus tern- . perature variation is smaller for electrolyte solutions that for pure water, is proposed to be utilized for the evaluation of the hydratation numbers of ions in electrolyte solutions. The activation energy of molecular motion at low temperatures, calculated, from temperature dependence of the linewidth is 8-16 kcal moi-1 and it is in good agreement with the results obtained by other techniques. A model of interaction of water molecules between each other and with the active centres Β·Of hydrophilic disperse systems has been proposed. The peculiarities of the interaction of water molecules with ions of various electron structure have been elucidated. The hydratation numbers of counterions have been determined and compared with those for equeous solutions of corresponding salts. The special features of water molecules on the interface at low temperatures have been discussed. The role of hydrogen bonds in the determination of the freezing temperature of water has been elucidated

Photon emission by an ultra-relativistic particle channeling in a periodically bent crystal

This paper is devoted to a detailed analysis of the new type of the undulator radiation generated by an ultra-relativistic charged particle channeling along a crystal plane, which is periodically bent by a transverse acoustic wave, as well as to the conditions limiting the observation of this phenomenon. This mechanism makes feasible the generation of electromagnetic radiation, both spontaneous and stimulated, emitted in a wide range of the photon energies, from X- up to gamma-rays

From the zero-field metal-insulator transition in two dimensions to the quantum Hall transition: a percolation-effective-medium theory

Effective-medium theory is applied to the percolation description of the metal-insulator transition in two dimensions with emphasis on the continuous connection between the zero-magnetic-field transition and the quantum Hall transition. In this model the system consists of puddles connected via saddle points, and there is loss of quantum coherence inside the puddles. The effective conductance of the network is calculated using appropriate integration over the distribution of conductances, leading to a determination of the magnetic field dependence of the critical density. Excellent quantitative agreement is obtained with the experimental data, which allows an estimate of the puddle physical parameters

In-Flight Testing of MEMS Pressure Sensors for Flight Loads Determination

    Get PDF
The determination and monitoring of structural loads during flight is an important partof every certification program. It must be proved to the certification authorities that the loads occurring during specific flight maneuvers do not exceed the permissible component loads. Usually conventional strain gauges are used to determine structural loads, however an elaborate calibration process is necessary to determine these loads from the measuredstrains. Recent advances in sensor technology allow determining aerodynamic loads directly from pressure distributions measured by MEMS based sensors. When compared to strain gauges this measurement method has several advantages over conventional strain gauges interms of installation and calibration costs. Flight tests were carried out with the DLR researchglider aircraft Discus-2c in order to compare and investigate the loads determined with the two measuring methods. For this purpose a wing glove equipped with 64 MEMS pressure sensors on the airfoil surface was constructed. Different maneuvers with varying loads were performed during the test flights. A first evaluation of steady flight maneuvers shows that theloads determined from the measured pressure distribution are in very good accordance with the ones determined from the strain gauge measurements. This paper gives an overview of the flight test setup and the data analysis process, results from evaluations of trimmed wings-level flight and steady turn maneuvers are presented and discussed

Effect of Nb doping at Mn site on thermal expansion of Pr 0.7 Sr

    Get PDF
a b s t r a c t In this study we present results on effect of Nb doping on thermal expansion of Pr 0.7 Sr 0.3 MnO 3 . Thermal expansion measurements were done using three terminal capacitance method. The pure sample shows a jump at the insulator-metal (I-M) transition temperature, and with Nb doping, a fourfold decrease in the jump is found. Since thermal expansion is a bulk property, this suggests that the dopants are not in the form of local clusters; rather they are distributed uniformly throughout the sample. Temperature variation of Gruniesen ratio Ξ±/C P shows that for temperatures below I-M transition, the ratio is weakly dependent on temperature. Pressure dependence on the transition temperature, dT P /dP and jump in compressibility, Δβ, of these samples has been estimated using well-known Ehrenfest equations. The present results are in fairly good agreement with those reported in the literature
