University system is the soul of the society due to the society’s dependence on it for direction. The two has a symbiotic relationship. They are expected to solve society’s problems through provision of knowledgeable and well behaved individuals, high level skilled manpower for the workforce and also researches and innovations The University Library is vested with the responsibility of providing needed information materials to achieve this. In developing countries like Nigeria, employers of labour often complain of the un-employability of our university graduates as well as research results not being adopted by industries. A poor university-industry linkage is evident in Nigeria. There is a disconnect between the universities and the industries that they produce the skilled manpower and research reports. The paper therefore examined the university library roles for enhanced university-industry relationship. The concepts of university, industry and university library was looked at and a review of literature on university-industry relationship was done

Abstract The need for peace in Nigeria cannot be overemphasized as the country has been suffering from the consequences of various degrees of conflict at various times in our history as a nation. Peace education initiative is seen as a welcomed development in both peacebuilding and maintenance. This paper, therefore, intends to discuss the roles of libraries towards promoting peace education in Nigeria. This paper reviewed literature on library, peace, and peace education, it also discussed the types and contents of peace education and then discussed the roles libraries should play in promoting peace education which includes support for education, provision of access to information, teaching of information literacy and study skills, outreach programmes (organizing seminars, talks, road shows, exhibitions etc,). The paper also looked at some challenges which also include poor funding, high illiteracy rate and poor reading culture. The value of this paper is in its identification and discussion of the views and position on the concepts of library, peace and peace education and a breakdown of the types and content of peace education. The paper is expected to aid those in the quest for knowledge and help create synergy between peace scholars and libraries and librarians

Optimization of Composite Briquette Made From Sawdust/Rice Husk Using Starch and Clay Binder

In this study, the physical properties and optimization of briquettes made from rice husk and sawdust were carried out. The bio-waste material of homogeneous particle sizes of 0.5mm and two binders of 90:10 percentage compositions which were sun-dried, prepared and compressed for the production of the briquettes. Energy valuation of the briquettes was carried out using a bomb Calorimeter. Response surface methodology was implored in the optimization of the energy values from rice husk/sawdust composite briquettes with clay and starch as binders, after which a composite briquette made from mahogany sawdust/rice husk was produced using the optimal condition values of 15% binder starch, 28% rice husk and 9Mpa compaction pressure. The results indicated that composite briquettes of mahogany sawdust and rice husk produced using starch gave the maximum energy value of 5.69kcal/g whereas those made with clay gave the least calorific value of 3.35kcal/g. This indicates that briquette from a composite of Mahogany sawdust/rice husk is, as a result, more appropriate for starting and retaining the fire for cooking and other domestic heating

An ethno medicinal study was conducted through the means of an informal interview with an herbalist at Akim-Tafo, in the Eastern region of Ghana. Preliminary phytochemical tests carried out on the leaves of Morindalucida indicated the presence of saponins, anthraquinones, cardenolides, alkaloids, sterols and tannins. ThinLayer Chromatography and Column Chromatography method were used in the laboratory for the analysis of acrude extract from Morinda lucida. A total of nine components were isolated from Morinda lucida using asolvent system containing hexane and ethyl acetate (2:1) as the mobile phase and a stationary phase of silica gel.The crude leaf extract of Morinda lucida was investigated for inhibitory activity on Salmonella typhi,Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus in vitro using the agar well diffusion method. Morindalucida showed inhibitory activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus with no activityagainst Salmonella typhi at a concentration of 10mg/ml.Keywords: Morinda lucida, thin layer chromatography, column chromatography, antimicrobial activity

The purpose of this study is to identify childcare anxieties of mothers and how public health nurses cope with them. The data was collected from the contents of 216 consultations of mothers with children under 14th months of age carried by public health nurses of N public health center, O city. It was revealed that most of the consultations were about child's physical and nutritious concerns. The childcare anxieties associated with growth and birth order and the child's age in months. Moreover, we found that even though there is a large volume of information available about childcare, it is too general. Based on the research findings, we made clear tendency of childcare anxiety of mothers and how the public health nurses coped with them

Impact of COVID-19 on cardiovascular testing in the United States versus the rest of the world

Objectives: This study sought to quantify and compare the decline in volumes of cardiovascular procedures between the United States and non-US institutions during the early phase of the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted the care of many non-COVID-19 illnesses. Reductions in diagnostic cardiovascular testing around the world have led to concerns over the implications of reduced testing for cardiovascular disease (CVD) morbidity and mortality. Methods: Data were submitted to the INCAPS-COVID (International Atomic Energy Agency Non-Invasive Cardiology Protocols Study of COVID-19), a multinational registry comprising 909 institutions in 108 countries (including 155 facilities in 40 U.S. states), assessing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on volumes of diagnostic cardiovascular procedures. Data were obtained for April 2020 and compared with volumes of baseline procedures from March 2019. We compared laboratory characteristics, practices, and procedure volumes between U.S. and non-U.S. facilities and between U.S. geographic regions and identified factors associated with volume reduction in the United States. Results: Reductions in the volumes of procedures in the United States were similar to those in non-U.S. facilities (68% vs. 63%, respectively; p = 0.237), although U.S. facilities reported greater reductions in invasive coronary angiography (69% vs. 53%, respectively; p < 0.001). Significantly more U.S. facilities reported increased use of telehealth and patient screening measures than non-U.S. facilities, such as temperature checks, symptom screenings, and COVID-19 testing. Reductions in volumes of procedures differed between U.S. regions, with larger declines observed in the Northeast (76%) and Midwest (74%) than in the South (62%) and West (44%). Prevalence of COVID-19, staff redeployments, outpatient centers, and urban centers were associated with greater reductions in volume in U.S. facilities in a multivariable analysis. Conclusions: We observed marked reductions in U.S. cardiovascular testing in the early phase of the pandemic and significant variability between U.S. regions. The association between reductions of volumes and COVID-19 prevalence in the United States highlighted the need for proactive efforts to maintain access to cardiovascular testing in areas most affected by outbreaks of COVID-19 infection
