    Measurement of radon emanation and impurity adsorption from argon gas using ultralow radioactive zeolite

    The amount of radioactive impurities contaminated in the detector gases is required to be kept at a very low level for rare event particle physics such as dark matter and neutrino observation experiments. Zeolite is a well-known adsorbent material and is one of the possible candidates for removing impurities from these gases. At the same time, the amount of radioactive impurities released from the adsorbent material needs to be sufficiently small. In this paper, a development of a new ultralow radioactive zeolite as a product of the selection of ultralow radioactive materials is reported. Results on the radon emanation and impurity adsorption from argon gas measurements are also described.Comment: 8 pages, 7 figure

    High purity NaI(Tl) scintillator to search for dark matter

    A high purity and large volume NaI(Tl) scintillator was developed to search for cosmic dark matter. The required densities of radioactive impurities (RIs) such as U-chain, Th-chain are less than a few ppt to establish high sensitivity to dark matter. The impurity of RIs were effectively reduced by selecting raw materials of crucible and by performing chemical reduction of lead ion in NaI raw powder. The impurity of 226^{226}Ra was reduced less than 100 μ\muBq/kg in NaI(Tl) crystal. It should be remarked that the impurity of 210^{210}Pb, which is difficult to reduce, is effectively reduced by chemical processing of NaI raw powder down to less than 30 μ\muBq/kg. The expected sensitivity to cosmic dark matter by using 250 kg of the high purity and large volume NaI(Tl) scintillator (PICO-LON; Pure Inorganic Crystal Observatory for LOw-background Neutr(al)ino) is 7×\times1045^{-45} cm2^{2} for 50 GeV/c2/c^{2} WIMPs.Comment: 6 pages, 2 Figures, Proceedings of International Symposium on Radiation Detectors and Their Uses (ISRD2016).     Status of 48Ca double beta decay search in CANDLES

    We study a strategy to reduce veto-time in the search for neutrino-less double-beta decay (0υββ) with CANDLES-III system. We develop a new likelihood analysis and apply it to our new Run010 data. We show that we can increase the un-vetoed live-time by 11.8%. Thanks to this improvements, We expect to increase a limit on the life-time of 0υββ by a factor of three by analyzing both Run009 and Run010 data

    Lysine Acetylation Regulates Alanyl-tRNA Synthetase Activity in Escherichia coli

    Protein lysine acetylation is a widely conserved posttranslational modification in all three domains of life. Lysine acetylation frequently occurs in aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases (aaRSs) from many organisms. In this study, we determined the impact of the naturally occurring acetylation at lysine-73 (K73) in Escherichia coli class II alanyl-tRNA synthetase (AlaRS) on its alanylation activity. We prepared an AlaRS K73Ac variant in which Nε-acetyl-l-lysine was incorporated at position 73 using an expanded genetic code system in E. coli. The AlaRS K73Ac variant showed low activity compared to the AlaRS wild type (WT). Nicotinamide treatment or CobB-deletion in an E. coli led to elevated acetylation levels of AlaRS K73Ac and strongly reduced alanylation activities. We assumed that alanylation by AlaRS is affected by K73 acetylation, and the modification is sensitive to CobB deacetylase in vivo. We also showed that E. coli expresses two CobB isoforms (CobB-L and CobB-S) in vivo. CobB-S displayed the deacetylase activity of the AlaRS K73Ac variant in vitro. Our results imply a potential regulatory role for lysine acetylation in controlling the activity of aaRSs and protein synthesis
