This survey aimed to clarify the current status of providing nursing services and the characteristics of visiting nursing stations (VNSs), which were classified by the size of VNS in Tokushima Prefecture. A questionnaire survey was conducted from January to March 2015 among all 71 VNSs in the prefecture. The questionnaire included questions regarding the implementation framework of home nursing, actual situations of service provision, conditions of patients, and issues and challenges of home care in Tokushima Prefecture. Of 71 VNSs, 34 responded to the questionnaire(response rate, 47.9%). The proportion of VNSs that provided complicated medical procedures was low ; e.g., 27.6% of VNSs provided self-peritoneal dialysis at home, 48.3% provided services for narcotic pain control, and 58.6% provided total parenteral nutrition. Home visits for patients with mental illnesses were provided significantly more by large size VNSs Home visits were frequently provided for households located far from VNSs, thus raising concerns regarding the workload of nurses and the convenient use of VNSs by clients. For patients to comfortably live in local areas that are familiar to them, it was considered that correcting the uneven geographical distribution of VNSs might be important

The purpose of this survey was to determine nurse administrators and hospital directors’ perspectives about nurses’ abilities in performing specific medical practices in hospitals in Tokushima Prefecture. The nurse administrators and hospital directors of all hospitals (113 hospitals) in Tokushima Prefecture were invited to respond to a survey questionnaire by mail posted during the period between February and March of 2015. Responses were received from 46 nurse administrators (response rate, 41%) and 38 hospital directors (response rate, 34%). The obtained data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the narrative descriptions summarized. Majority of responses from nurse administrators and hospital directors were accepting that nurses have responsibilities for administering medicines such as tranquilizers, anti-anxiety and anticonvulsant drugs. This result was not affected by the size of the hospital, in which fifty four percent (54%) of respondents were from hospitals with less than 100 beds. In Japan, only hospitals with 100 beds or more may have procedures involving highly invasive treatments. Because of this, many of the respondents answered “not applicable” to statements in the questionnaire which were related to invasive treatments. Recruitment of nurses, strategies to cope with accidents and education curriculum were important concerns of nurse administrators and hospital directors which remain to be answered in future investigations

Effect of Polymers and Storage Relative Humidity on Amorphous Rebamipide and Its Solid Dispersion Transformation: Multiple Spectra Chemometrics of Powder X-Ray Diffraction and Near-Infrared Spectroscopy

This study aimed to investigate the effect of polymers and storage relative humidity on amorphous rebamipide (RB) and its solid dispersion phase transformation using chemometrics based on multiple datasets. The amorphous RB was prepared using particle mixture and grinding methods with hydroxypropyl cellulose, polyvinylpyrrolidone, and sodium dodecyl sulfate. Prepared amorphous RB and solid dispersion samples were stored under a relative humidity of 30% and 75% for four weeks. Infrared spectra of the dispersion samples suggested that the hydrogen bond network was constructed among quinolinone, carbonyl acid, and amide of RB and other polymers. The dataset combining near-infrared (NIR) spectra and powder X-ray diffractograms were applied to principal component analysis (PCA). The relationship between diffractograms and NIR spectra was evaluated using loadings and the PCA score. The multiple spectra analysis is useful for evaluating model amorphous active pharmaceutical ingredients without a standard sample
