Marketing margins of selected stakeholders in the supply chain of dates in South Punjab, Pakistan
Date is one of the major cash
fruits in Pakistan. Presently Pakistan stands
at sixth position in dates producing
countries. Date occupies third position after
citrus and mango in terms of fruit area and
production. The present study was
conducted to explore the current margins of
various stakeholders involved in the existing
marketing system of dates in two leading
districts of South Punjab district, as Dera
Ghazi Khan and Muzaffar Garh. A sample
of 40 farmers, 30 commission agents,
30 wholesalers, 30 retailers and 30
consumers was selected randomly. Pretested
questionnaires were used to collect
the data from selected respondents through
personal interviews. Private sector is
dominant in all major marketing activities.
The market intermediaries in date marketing
system involve commission agent,
wholesaler and retailer. Different
intermediaries were taking different margins
according to form of dates and locality. In
Dera Ghazi khan, commission agent was
getting 13.55%, wholesaler 11.71% and
retailer, 18.09% margins of marketing chain
for fresh date and share of growers in
consumer price was 56.09%. Commission
agent was taking 14.13%, wholesaler,
10.67% and retailer 17.2%; margin of
marketing chain for fresh date and share of
growers in consumer price was 58% in
Muzaffar Garh. The price of date is much
high due to long chain of marketing system.
In order to reduce the wholesale and retail
prices, government should take measures to
establish date marketing centers and supply
chain management training programs for the
date growers
The Persistency of the India-Pakistan Conflict: Chances and Obstacles of the Bilateral Composite Dialogue
This article investigates the underlying causes for the persistency of the India–Pakistan conflict and, on this basis, the chances and obstacles of the bilateral composite dialogue initiated in 2004. In particular, it wants to provide a theoretically grounded account of the factors that facilitated and constrained the bilateral composite dialogue process. Drawing on the regional security complex theory, this article examines the rivalry between the two South Asian nuclear powers on four levels of analysis: the domestic, the regional, the interregional and the global level. The analysis shows that there have been some substantial changes on all four levels in the recent decade or so and that these changes have provided more beneficial conditions for a peace process. These changes include, inter alia, India’s new regional policy, the consequences of the 9/11 terrorist attacks for the region and India’s growing power capacities. However, major obstacles to the India–Pakistan dialogue and a permanent conflict resolution continue to persist: the dominant role of the military in Pakistan, conflicting national identities and the still partially contested nature of statehood in India and Pakistan, which is in the case of Pakistan linked to the growing power of Islamic fundamentalists
Mapping local patterns of childhood overweight and wasting in low- and middle-income countries between 2000 and 2017
A double burden of malnutrition occurs when individuals, household members or communities experience both undernutrition and overweight. Here, we show geospatial estimates of overweight and wasting prevalence among children under 5 years of age in 105 low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) from 2000 to 2017 and aggregate these to policy-relevant administrative units. Wasting decreased overall across LMICs between 2000 and 2017, from 8.4 (62.3 (55.1�70.8) million) to 6.4 (58.3 (47.6�70.7) million), but is predicted to remain above the World Health Organization�s Global Nutrition Target of <5 in over half of LMICs by 2025. Prevalence of overweight increased from 5.2 (30 (22.8�38.5) million) in 2000 to 6.0 (55.5 (44.8�67.9) million) children aged under 5 years in 2017. Areas most affected by double burden of malnutrition were located in Indonesia, Thailand, southeastern China, Botswana, Cameroon and central Nigeria. Our estimates provide a new perspective to researchers, policy makers and public health agencies in their efforts to address this global childhood syndemic. © 2020, The Author(s)

Impact of Spectators’ Perceptions of Corporate Social Responsibility on Regional Attachment in Sports: Three-Wave Indirect Effects of Spectators’ Pride and Team Identification
The professional sports events industry is becoming immensely popular due to a global social shift toward larger numbers of spectators at sports events and an ever-increasing variety of such events. This study aimed to investigate the impact of spectators’ perception of corporate social responsibility on regional attachment by applying social identity theory. The present study introduces two mediators, namely, spectators’ pride and team identification, to enlighten the relationship between spectators’ perception of corporate social responsibility and regional attachment, thus contributing to the literature on corporate social responsibility in sports. This quantitative study used a time-lagged approach to collect data in three waves at a time interval of one week and the final sample consisted of 511 respondents (i.e., spectators). Hierarchical regression analysis bootstrapping approach was utilized to analyze the hypothesis. We found that the spectators’ perceptions of corporate social responsibility positively influenced their team identification, and this relationship was mediated by spectators’ pride. In addition, spectators’ pride positively influences regional attachment, and this relationship is mediated by team identification. These findings provide new directions for understanding corporate social responsibility, team identification, spectators’ pride, and regional attachment in sports contexts. The practical and theoretical implications are discussed
Particle transport in graphene nanoribbon driven by ultrashort pulses
We study charge transport in a graphene zigzag nanoribbon driven by an external
time-periodic kicking potential. Using the exact solution of the time-dependent Dirac
equation with a delta-kick potential acting in each period, we study the time evolution of
the population transfer probability and the time-dependent optical conductivity. By
variation of the kicking parameters, the conductivity becomes widely tunable
Cytogenetic and molecular responses of ammonium sulphate application for tolerance to extreme temperatures in Vicia faba L.
Effects of ammonium sulphate [(NH4)(2)SO4] on mitosis, cell cycle and chromosomes in Vicia faba L. seeds exposed to extreme temperatures were investigated using flowcytometric and cytogenetic analysis. Seeds germinated at high and low temperatures showed a significant decrease in mitotic index as compared to those of optimum temperature conditions. Application of 50 and 1000 mu M (NH4)(2)SO4 were successful in alleviating the negative effects of low and high temperature on mitotic activity, respectively. 50 mu M (NH4)(2)SO4 showed the most positive effect on cell cycle at the extreme temperatures. This concentration increased the cell division removing or decreasing the negative effects of temperature stress. Namely, the highest G2/M and S phase percentages under stress conditions were obtained with application of 50 mu M (NH4)(2)SO4. Chromosomal aberrations were not observed in cells of seeds germinated in distilled water and also at any temperatures. However, the frequency of chromosomal aberrations increased significantly by increasing (NH4)(2)SO4 concentration.
