SCIENTIFICALLY SUBSTANTIATED GUIDELINES FOR PHYSICO-MATHEMATICAL MODELLING OF LASER SURFACE-TREATMENT OF WEAR-RESISTANT IMPLANTS FOR HUMAN JOINT REPLACEMENTS

    Get PDF
This paper presents the main results from a set of guidelines on the physico-mathematical modelling of laser surface-treatment of wear-resistant implants for human joint replacements. These guidelines contain synthesized and documented procedure, theoretical and practical recommendations, which are provided by researchers in the Nanomaterials Laboratory under the Institute of Fundamental Science and Innovative Technologies, Liepaja University. The present paper does not attempt to cover all aspects of physical and mathematical modelling, but draws together many key aspects concerning theoretical and practical difficulties, in the overcoming of what researchers of the Nanomaterials Laboratory, in particular, the authors of the present paper, have sufficient skills

Application of a self-propelled autonomous aquatic robot for environmental education

Environmental protection in education poses challenges for both teachers and students due to its multidisciplinary nature, involving data acquisition, transfer, data structuring, virtual environment deployment, database access, and data protection. These complexities hinder the preparation of course assignments, and using simulations and modeling as a substitute for technical performance is not recommended for pedagogical reasons. Employing a mobile robot as a data source offers several advantages. Firstly, the data acquisition process becomes transparent, as sensor readings align with intuitively predictable values based on the robot’s trajectory. Secondly, a coherent data structure is formed, connecting diverse data types such as time stamps, coordinates, and sensor readings (e.g., temperature, air and water quality, lighting, distance). Thirdly, the solution’s applicability for environmental monitoring purposes can be easily demonstrated. This study proposes the development of an environmental monitoring solution that employs a self-propelled robot (driving, floating, flying) to obtain readings of environmental parameters. The proposed project solution in education provides many opportunities in data acquisition, processing, transfer, visualization and opens the field for interpretations

Microcontroller based adaptive system for solar collector parameters management

Abstract The solar collectors belong to the most widespread renewable energy production tools. Still, the following problem has been faced when using these collectors in temperate climatic zone – insufficient heat production during autumn-winter-spring season and excessive heat generation in summer time. However, this problem could be solved through utilization of multi-layered collector with automatic management which ensures liquid flow channeling to layers with different heat absorption and emission parameters.</jats:p
