UNIVERSAL DESIGN FOR LEARNING: ASSESSMENT OF TEACHING METHODS IN COVENANT UNIVERSITY, OTA, OGUN STATE, NIGERIA
Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is another perspective about educational training. It is regarded
as an essential implement in the pre-emptive planning of manageable and usable all inclusive learning
and teaching methods, and environments. Classroom use of UDL includes the utilization of innovation
and different methods of instruction among others as captured in its three core principles of
representation, expression and engagement. The purpose of this investigation is to assess the
compliance of the various teaching methods employed in Covenant University (CU) in Ota, Ogun
State, Nigeria, with the UDL principles, with a view to identifying possible areas for improvements. CU
is a private university whose goal is to be one of the best ten universities in the world by 2022. Thus
the need to have its teaching methods conforms to international best practices. The study employed a
qualitative research approach using structured interview specifically designed for the research to
collect data. The analyzed data is presented using descriptive approach. The outcome of the study will
be useful to guiding policies towards achieving inclusive education in higher institution of learning,
particularly in Nigeria and other developing nations
AN INVESTIGATION OF THE EFFECTS OF POOR SPECIFICATION ON BUILDING COLLAPSE IN NIGERIA
This paper examines the effects of specification on building collapse in Nigeria. The study became necessary
due to the ugly cases of buildings collapsing in the country over the years. In doing so, the study begins with review of relevant literature on the concept of specification, as well as the factors associated with building collapse. The need for specification in building construction projects was enunciated upon. Other factors that culminate in building collapse, such as load types; man-power; technical skills, etc. are discussed herein. The study further examines identifies and documents cases of building collapse in Nigeria to identify the causes and factors responsible for the collapse. Interviews were conducted with practicing professionals in the construction industry. This was done to obtain professional insights and experiences used as part of the data in the research. Findings from this study highlights consequential role of poor specification in causing building collapse, loss of lives and properties. This paper concludes with identifying the relevance of specification in ensuring adherence to appropriate materials and construction methods for structural stability. Recommendations are given to guard
against poor specifications that result in the collapse of buildings, properties and ultimately loss of lives

THE IMPACT OF THE ARCHITECTURE DESIGN STUDIO COURSE ON THE PERFORMANCE OF ARCHITECTURE STUDENT’S OF COVENANT UNIVERSITY DURING SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
Architecture education has evolved over the years to train students who aspire to build a career in architecture. In covenant University, the 2nd year class, undergraduate students of architecture begin a design project course that serves to equip students with the needed skills that are useful for the internship program and eventually the practice.
According to the approved curriculum by the national universities council (NUC); students are to undergo an internship program during the summer break, which begins at the end of the session. During the program, daily activities are recorded in a log book. Based on the feedback, examiners can evaluate a students’ performance during the program.
For this survey, 185 students were randomly selected from the 3rd year, 4th year class and the 1st year and 2nd year Masters students respectively. Also 5 supervisors form firms that had the most interns were interviewed. The results were used to evaluate the impact of the studio course on students’ level of efficiency during the Internship program.
From the results, students received tasks that the studio course had prepared them to handle. However, some Students performed averagely and others claimed that they were under tasked by their supervisors. Hence, there is a need to identify the relative importance of the course and the program.
These results will serve as data for the department of Architecture to be used to better prepare students for internship and eventually, the practice.
