Development of Prototype Low-cost and High-strength Fault Current Interrupting Arcing Horns for 77 kV Overhead Transmission Lines

Fault Current Interrupting Arcing Horns (FCIAH) are newly designed arcing horns installed on transmis-sion line towers as a countermeasure against lightning damage that greatly contribute to reducing power interruption by interrupting fault current independently within an AC cycle. This paper describes the de-velopment of two new prototype FCIAH for further cost reduction and strength enhancement, using computational fluid dynamics and short-circuit tests

    Infrared/optical - X-ray simultaneous observations of X-ray flares in GRB 071112C and GRB 080506

We investigate the origin of short X-ray flares which are occasionally observed in early stages of afterglows of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs). We observed two events, GRB 071112C and GRB 080506, before the start of X-ray flares in the optical and near-infrared (NIR) bands with the 1.5-m Kanata telescope. In conjunction with published X-ray and optical data, we analyzed densely sampled light curves of the early afterglows and spectral energy distributions (SEDs) in the NIR-X-ray ranges. We found that the SEDs had a break between the optical and X-ray bands in the normal decay phases of both GRBs regardless of the model for the correction of the interstellar extinction in host galaxies of GRBs. In the X-ray flares, X-ray flux increased by 3 and 15 times in the case of GRB 071112C and 080506, respectively, and the X-ray spectra became harder than those in the normal decay phases. No significant variation in the optical-NIR range was detected together with the X-ray flares. These results suggest that the X-ray flares were associated with either late internal shocks or external shocks from two-component jets.Comment: 10 pages, 5 figures, accepted to Astronomy and Astrophysic

Force Constants of Cu Crystals From Diffuse Neutron Scattering Measurement

Diffuse neutron scattering measurement on Cu crystals was performed at 10 K and 300 K. Oscillatory forms were observed in the diffuse scattering intensities. The observed diffuse scattering intensities are analyzed by including the correlation effects among thermal displacements of atoms in the theory. Using the values of correlation effects among neighboring atoms and the values of Debye-Waller temperature parameter, force constants among first, second and third nearest neighboring atoms have been evaluated. The result of correlation effects in Cu crystals are compared to that of ionic crystal and semiconductor. The relation between correlation effects and the inter-atomic distance is not depending much on the crystal binding types. Perturbative dynamics of matrix string for the membrane

Recently Sekino and Yoneya proposed a way to regularize the world volume theory of membranes wrapped around S1S^1 by matrices and showed that one obtains matrix string theory as a regularization of such a theory. We show that this correspondence between matrix string theory and wrapped membranes can be obtained by using the usual M(atrix) theory techniques. Using this correspondence, we construct the super-Poincare generators of matrix string theory at the leading order in the perturbation theory. It is shown that these generators satisfy 10 dimensional super-Poincar\'e algebra without any anomaly.Comment: 23 pages, 1 figur
