Enhanced Forwarding Strategies in Information Centric Networking

    Get PDF
Content Centric Networking (CCN), a Clean Slate architecture to Information Centric Networking (ICN) , uses new approaches to routing named content, achieving scalability, security and performance. This thesis proposes a design of an effective multi-path forwarding strategy and performs an evaluation of this strategy in a set of scenarios that consider large scale deployments. The evaluations show improved performance in terms of user application throughput, delays, adoptability and scalability against adverse conditions (such as differing background loads and mobility) compared to the originally proposed forwarding strategies. Secondly, this thesis proposes an analytical model based on Markov Modulated Rate Process (MMRP) to characterize multi-path data transfers in CCN. The results show a close resemblance in performance between the analytical model and the simulation model

VOLUNTARY ACTION OF A FIRM ON ENVIROMENT MANAGEMENT: AN EMPIRICAL ASSESSMENT ON SRI LANKAN FOOD PROCESSING FIRMS’ RESPONSE TO THE PRIVATE AND REGULATORY INCENTIVES

The effect of a set of private/market (i.e. financial implications, internal efficiency, market response) and public/non-market (i.e. government regulation, judiciary/legal system) incentives for a firm to act voluntarily on environmental quality is examined. It uses the levels of adoption of five solid waste management practices [SWMPs], namely: (1) 3R system; (2) Composting; (3) Good manufacturing practices; (4) Biogas unit, and (5) ISO 14000 by food processing sector in Sri Lanka in response to the prevalence of each incentive at the firm as the case. The data collected from 325 firms through in-depth interviews and site inspections and supported by a validated structured questionnaire were analyzed using the principles of Structural Equation Modeling. The “Analysis of Moment Structures” (AMOS) software was used to establish the relationships between the levels of adoption of SWMPs and the strength of each incentive. The results show that firms‟ response to environment is relatively low, i.e. 49.2% did not adopt a single practice, while only 28%, 12%, 7.4%, 3.1% and 0.3%, respectively, have adopted 1, 2, 3, 4 or all practices. Firms tend to adopt a higher number of SWMPs as the relative strength of an each incentive perceived by the decision maker of firm gets increases. Firms put a higher weight on the impact on regulation and legal system than the private incentives and the firm size has a substantial impact on its response to the environment. The results highlight the importance of bringing the current public regulatory regimes in developing countries like Sri Lanka towards co-regulation, which is practiced by developed countries like Australia and Canada to facilitate businesses to come up with own solutions for environmental and food quality, as the outcome of this analysis points out that firms‟ compliance to the recommended SWMP was not triggered satisfactorily by the private/voluntary action.Environment management, Food processing sector in Sri Lanka, Incentives, Regulation, Solid waste management, Voluntary adoption, Farm Management,

    The Brand Outlet Security Enhancement

This research analysis conducted to understand the security measurements of The Brand Outlet Company. The literature review is done after identify the objectives to undertake this research. Under literature review author is given theoretical aspects and how that theoretical models can use in the company current situation. For gathering data, author has used several methods. But he basically choose the qualitative data method since due to given time and nature of the business and nature of the research it’s the convenient method for data gathering for this project. Since this is a pop up store business, it was hard for author to gather and contact employees. Since they involved with their other jobs. So basically author has to communicate with them over the phone or through emails. To understand the importance to the customers of security and safety, author interviews two customers which they can suggest and recommend some strategies as third party. The research questioner is basically to conduct and gather ideas about the current safety and security of the company and also to understand, what are the ways companies should undertake to improve the security measurements for better safe environment within the store which customers and the staff get safe inside the store. After analyzing the data and customer and staff information, author given some recommendations which company should consider while conducting the business. Because due to theft each sales period the store loose around $500 -1000 worth of products. When looking at big picture this is a huge loss for the company and putting staff and customers life in danger by letting security error in the store premises

Demo: Simulation-as-a-Service to Benchmark Opportunistic Networks

    Get PDF
Repeatability, reproducibility, and replicability are essential aspects of experimental and simulation-driven research. Use of benchmarks in such evaluations further assists corroborative performance evaluations. In this work, we present a demonstrator of a simulation service, called ”OPS on the bench” which tackles these challenges in performance evaluations of opportunistic networks

Role of social networks in paddy farming communities on the formation of ethnic occupational niches: an empirical investigation based on the Ampara district

The role of social networks, which exist in the form of linkages amongst the individuals in the society and are built up particularly to strengthen friendships/kinships and/or financial exchange, towards concentration and specialization of members of a particular ethnic group working for a particular occupational activity, which is commonly referred to as an "ethnic occupational niche" (EON), is examined in this paper in the context of paddy farming sector in the Ampara district of Sri Lanka. The Model's Concentration Index was used in the theoretical model to estimate the relative strength of EON along with the Contact Availability, the levels of knowledge and attitudes of farmers to evaluate the role of social networks on EON. Given the multi-ethnicity of the Ampara district [i.e. Muslims (44.7%); Sinhalese (35.8%); Tamil (19.5%)], a multi stage sampling procedure was employed to select the respondents (n ° 60 paddy farming households) and a face-to-face in-depth interview was carried out with a support of a structured questionnaire during April to June 2010 to collect the primary data. Further, the secondary data required to specify the empirical model were obtained from the respective Agrarian Services Centers in Ampara district. The outcome of analysis, which used the Binary Logistic Regression techniques to estimate the coefficients of econometric model, shows that the formation of EON has a positive and significant association with the operations of social networks as well as the financial availability and scale of operation of the farming system and the Tamil ethnic group in the Ampara district is likely to be concentrated in activities related to paddy farming almost twice as their counterpart (i.e. Sinhalese and Muslims)
