Administration of Salaries, Allowances and Teachers Attitude to Work in Public Secondary Schools in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria
The study focuses on the administration of salaries, allowances and teachers attitude to work in public secondary schools in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. The research design adopted for the study was descriptive survey research design of the expost factor type. A stratified random sampling technique was used in selecting 800 teachers from a population of 2,128 from 376 public secondary schools located in 31 local government areas of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. The instrument used for data collection was a fifty (50) item Human Resource Management and Teachers Attitude to Work Questionnaire (HRMTAWQ). Data collected were analysed using one way analysis of variance (ANOVA) statistical tools to test the formulated hypothesis at 0.05 level of significance. The study found out that there is a significant influence of administration of salaries and allowances on teachers attitude to work. Following this result, it is recommended that the government should give adequate attention to issues relating to human resource management practices. That is, the better the salaries and allowances of teachers, the more likely they are to put up positive attitude towards work Keywords: Administration; Salaries and allowances; teachers attitude; Akwa Ibom State, Nigeri
BlBLlOMETRlC STUDIES ON AFRICAN TRYPANOSOMIASIS RES EARCH LITERATURE: A REVIEW OF AUTHORSHIP PATTERN
45-49Compares author collaboration in the periodical
literature of African Trypanosomiasis. The study
was based on the literature abstracted in the 1990-
2000 articles of Tropical Diseases Bulletin and
Tsetse and Trypanosomiasis Quarterly (TTQ)
using the counting method. It is found that both
the annual rates and the cumulation of author
collaboration for the period for each of the ten
years was high although the figures obtained for
1992- 1995 and 1998 -2000 were higher than those
for 1990- 1991 and 1996 - 1997. Concludes that
though author collaboration exists in African
Trypanosomiasis literature for the ten years
studied, it is generally high but each year's
literature is dominated by multiple authorship, and
in all, two and three authored papers were
predominant. The extent of collaboration was up
to 11 authors per article, and this calls for more
collaboration to extend the authorship beyond 11
authors per paper, as it is noted in other scientific
disciplines. The study has provided factual
information in support of information services in
the field of African Trypanosomiasis literature
Sample size determination: A comparison of attribute and continuous variable methods

of the two methods of sample size determination - the Attribute and the
Continuous Variable Method has its use in the investigation of social science
problems. The former allows the computation of sample size with reference to
any parameters of the variable and, therefore, can substitute for the
Continuous Variable Method, but, with and probable increase in sample size. The
later is very useful when data are collected in ratio form. However, it demands
estimates of dispersion from the mean which may be primary purpose of the research
in the first place. The Attribute Method is highly recommended for library and
information science since it can be substituted for Continuous Variable Method.</span
